  1. Lekker rig. been lusting after a Hornet forever now.
  2. Not currently in its natural habitat, but surely doesn't feel dead.
  3. Lekker. I have the XO edition. Just had the XO logos removed at CBR, since I am running an mostly XT groupset. and my OCD wouldn't allow me to ride the frame like that I currently have WTB Frequency I-23 wrapped in 2.25 Onza Ibex/Cannis with a 34 oval on a 11-50 cassette on the bike. Spin out at about 45km/h on the tar road, and maybe 60km\h if I tuck on the descends. . Was thinking of going 2 x 10, with a road bike shift/brake levers and a dropped handlebar, putting slicks on and swapping my hydraulic brakes for mechanical to be able to use road bike shifters. Rocking a 100mm Sid XX up front, tempted to swop it for a fixed fork. The peeps at CBR said they can maybe hook me up with a set of carbon forks. Just wondering if I can fit 700c tyres on the bike or if I should stick to just 650b slicks. Cant keep up with my mate on his road bike with my current setup at all
  4. Sold my road bike last year and contemplating getting a gravel grinder in its stead. Also toying with the idea of turning my merida big 7 into a gravel grinder. Just still unsure if i should go 650b or if 700c is a better option
  5. My folks farm and surrounds in the Northen Cape, Garies area
  6. Goodbye 2019
  7. Namaqualand bundubashing continued
  8. Out and about in Namaqualand
  9. Thanx bud. Will give it a go
  10. What primer did you use on the raw aluminium? And was the spray and clear coat the 2k spray with hardener? Busy rebuilding a Giant Reign and the raw frame is looking for a fresh new color scheme. Your spray projects is looking good btw.
  11. according to the comment listed in the product reviews, there are people that used these successfully rebuilt their XTR's with these
  12. Reviving an old thread here. Stripped out mate's stuck down M7000 SLX lever last night and found that the piston/plunger head is mushroomed. And seems that my M785 XTs isn't far from reaching that point also. Found these kits on Ali Xpress. Works out to about R190 with shipping if anyone want to attempt to rebuild/revive their lever. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32973287602.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.3c344c4d9QAbRL Lead time sux a bit, but will provide feedback on these and the rebuild process if and when they arrive one day
  13. Take your bike to James Perry at CBR (Carbon Bike Repair) in Durbanville for an assesment for your insurance. I would not repair that frame if I were you, but James has done magic on one of my carbon frames in the past.
  14. Not sure where OP is based, but Carbon Bike Repairs in Durbanville can do a repair (at the LBS's cost of course) on the scratch without having to respray the whole bike. Pricing and quality has been ok so far on repair work I had done by them, and the lead time is usually 5 to 10 working days
  15. if you want 29'er, get the Ripmo. Seriously have my eyes on the Ripmo AF. Thinking of getting one in the new year
  16. I'm loving it as well. Would love having one as well. will be a good compliment to my HD3
  17. 2020 Ibis Mojo HD5
  18. Fully enjoyed it today as well, heat and all. Made the post ride beer just taste so much better. Will definitely be back next year for my third one. Think next i should do the 63 next year. Did the 37 for the second time this year, time to progress a bit. Great job by all involved. A definite must do event every year.
  19. Im running a truvativ black box jerome clementz carbon bar on my rig, also in 31.8. Also feel way stiffer than my spank spike oozy trail in aluminium that i had before it
  20. And as a side note. At 2600 you can buy a set of shoes and pedals easy. Just got myself a pair of Specialized Tahoe shoes that works with my flat and spd pedals for R1450 from helderberg cycles and you can source a set of flats and spd (shimano m520) for sub 1000 on the classifieds if you are lucky. So can cover both options for less than the price of the magnetic pedals as well
  21. Ive been on flats since my bmx days. Made the move to clipless about a year and a half ago. Was scary, wiped out plenty of times from not being able to clip out in time etc. But all in all i quite enjoy the connected feeling. Running a set of xt spd's on my hardtail and alternate between my shimano saint flats and my funn mamba platform spds on my enduro rig. Havent been on the saints in forever though. Flats are awesome to learn new skills, or run gnarlier trails. Spds are awesome for longer distances. I still prefer flats for tech trails, especially when i go try them the first time or two. Easier to get away from your bike when things go sideways. Best is to try both. Can find secondhand pedals and shoes on the classifieds to try it out without breaking the bank. Or if you have friends with multiple sets of pedals, lend a set and get propper shoes. If you are new to mtb, and wanting to learn to ride more tech stuff, manual, jump etc, i would say go (propper) flats to home your skills and gain confidence.
  22. espresso coating for the win Back on the op's post. you can add me as a +1 for lyne's droppers. Running mine for about a year and a half now, never needed a service so far, and it just works.
  23. Those wheels make me cringe. Reminds me of those crap plastic rims people run on their bmx bikes.
  24. we used to run our front brake cables through the top cap and down the steerer tube . Leaves an ugly loop, but affords you the option for bar spins etc. much more elegant on this bike though. The holes in the handlebar for the hoses just freak me out a bit. look like failure points waiting to happen
  25. If I may quote Deadpool: "good think I am wearing my white pants today"
