  1. Yes. It has happened on occasion with me to. As a matter of fact, yesterday as well. It was preceded with a consistent “re-connection” of my sensors. I also would like the cause and solution. I write it off to Garmin never being perfect on their software side, but I have had Polar and Garmin just gives you so much more functionality and the other brands don’t bother with Discovery.
  2. Saw a nice product advertorial on BikeHub Go to Website of Brand to Buy Online Cannot buy Online Saw they still rock old school - "Buy from Retailer" - route to market Go to first retailer - Can't find online Go to second retailer - Does not have online store Lost interest
  3. Great Development. Regarding the credit card fee paid by the buyer-how does this gel with PASA (payment association of South Africa) strict “no surcharging”? In line with this, my understanding is that all banks’ agreement with service providers highlights this prohibition. I see that Bike Hub provides a service and is not the seller, but was just wondering all the same.
  4. Went to the shops DMed. None have
  5. Hi, Where can I get the Special DT Swiss Grease. JUST THE GREASE. Not the Star Rachet, not the Upgrade Kit, just the Potjie of Grease. It's constantly out of stock. Danie
  6. For mortals like MOST us, really only 1 difference, the price. But for mortals like SOME of us, the difference lies in the fact that I spend more than you, and that can be important. ????
  7. Fully built bikes have 15% import duty. Then you add 15% VAT Bike components only have the VAT. Canyon bikes comes partially assembled. So I can see that some at the Customs office might process it all as bike parts instead of complete bike. It will also depend on the invoice (many lines vs 1 or 2). But shipping is flat. Whether its their €800 bike or €5000 bike. And that makes the cheaper ones less attractive.
  8. “Let’s do a Promo Article as part of our marketing strategy”, says one JaSure exec. “Well, there is a bit of a global bike boom due to the Pandemic, so let do a “How to get into Cycling” one”, says another. ”Great Idea, but to get the ultimate traction, let’s do a bad one, that can lead to 50+ comments and days on top of the active comments list”. “And makes sure somewhere we drop something about Specialized in the comments, that will keep things going a bit longer.” And so we all fall for it. Fun times to be had though. PS. Why is cycling gloves in particular so expensive. Pound 4 Pound in my book, the most expensive general bike item
  9. Like the brand or not. Like the price or not. This thread has 160 comments before me. 57 on the EVO. Cannondale Scalpel 43 Trek Supercaliber 15 (at the time of this post) Those carry equally crazy prices. My take. This brand has alot more brand presence than any other in SA. And they get traction like no other. Traction provided from Fanboys and Trolls alike. They all click. I think the marketing guys in the S’Bosch offices go “mission accomplished!”
  10. I paid R50k for a R7.2kg (no pedals and cages) Ultegra Di2 Disc brake bike - New! It’s called last year’s bike that need to go and make space for this year’s bike. Interesting that 15s up Alp du Huez. Could a rim brake have been quicker, maybe? But would love the timing of the round trip - Up and Down. And throw in a sprinkle of rain and time again.
  11. I don’t agree. This service is for a specific client, like myself. Assessing my own risk, theft from home is extremely low, almost nill. Thus, having 3 bikes, it just do not make sense for me to insure all of them for theft while not riding 3 times over. And, whilst I can possibly exclude theft from home from my policy, I can only ride 1 bike at a time. So in principle, this approach is what I have been looking for. Only problem, their rates are not linear enough for me. A R400 full month quote equates to something like R190 for 1 day. Yes, you cap out at the R400, but that is after like 5 or 6 days. this therefore does not really help the 3 bicycle dilemma. You will be better of insuring them traditionally and negotiate multi asset discounts, especially if you ride each 3 or 4 times a month. so now I contradict myself I know. So in summary, great idea in principle for those with low “theft from home” risk. Poor pricing negates the advantages though
  12. It will be. He is not going through the local shark, I mean anti-competitively geo-locked protected agent.
  13. There were a 156 finishers from Group $. That is the only people who had a theoretical chance of winning the CTCT. Even if you in 1A had a better time, no trophy for you. So that, in reality, was the only race. (and of course the ladies race from their starting point). And I am not saying e-bikes should be allowed in this race (along with doping etc.) I am talking about the participation of many people who enjoy riding their bikes, al be it with assistance (for whatever reason), on a nice day out (even with the wind) on a wonderful route. Their numbers don't justify yet their own fun ride with closed routes around the peninsula. Yes, consider all that needs to be considered, safety, influence on other's enjoyment etc. But don't do it with a preconceived idea of banning. I am sure equitable solutions can be found. Evidence suggest you will not be successful in banning them anyway. But cycling loves banning frivolous things. UCI racing license riders can't even ride with their kids or charity events if they are timed and not sanctioned. Come on. And Last time I checked, there wasn't a line of car racers lining up in the FAQ section of the Argus, Two Oceans and Durban July asking to participate with their cars, so not really a great example.
  14. Ah, e-bikes. I saw one without any numbers or boards. So I just thought is it one who "slipped" in. Like most new things in life, it will take time to understand how to deal/incorporate them. I for one have a tremendous issue with the "JUST BAN" everything that is new approach. Like AirBnB, Uber etc etc. Yes there is issues, off course there will be, its new. But banning, will never work. Even the car was new at some point and yip, banned from the roads at first. e-Bikes exists. e-Bikes get marketed e-Bikes sell. That is reality. Rather have an approach to incorporate rather than ban. It is a fun ride after all.
  15. Why do so many do that? Do they realise it is for 1735th place. I went around with my wife today. And what a ride from 3D. No shouting, no irresponsible weaving, no gunning for the 12425th place at the line. Just great conversation, polite, "passing on your right" and some awesome memories with the wife. Maybe a fun ride should just be that - a fun ride, even in the wind EDIT (3D not 3G - my wife is adamant)
  16. Pickeding up on this old thread Does anyone have recent experience? Big Birthday coming up, overseas family members, fenix 5s plus birthday gift. Will I have a warranty right in SA seeing that it’s purchased oversees and not by me. I am also wondering if it will matter if thet get me the glass version which is not available in SA (because it’s cheaper) Thanks
  17. So that the MAMILS on their R100,000 bikes can see the very many new stands on this “prestigious and award winning” estate close to nothing and buy one. (And I guess Stellies Muni said now way after very many rich omies and tannies in Mostertsdrift and Jonkershoek complained about a whole day of traffic around that area, ignoring the fact that some business in town loves the feet)
  18. I do not get this “when will it be a 200km race again? The rules are the same for all teams. You do not get into a car in the Neutral Zones. 290 teams makes this race possible for the sharp end of the field. We had one rider back after many absent years. He had the same opinion of this not being a “real” race anymore. And although our team didn’t go at the pace he can, he had such a blast with his friends, he already signed up for next year. New golf or not, 5,6,7,8 hours with your friends over magnificent terrain and vistas can never be lame!
  19. Sorry to harp on the Racing License again. But is there clarity on this. We have a ladies team gunning for the podium and need to get this sorted I spoke to the Coronation DC organizers via telephone number on the DC website. The lady confirmed that you will need a day license only. Said it can be bought on the CSA website Based on the forum thread, this is inconsistent information. CSA do not answer their phone. CSA website does not have the DC as an option under the events for which a day license can be purchased. Arrrggg
  20. Look I am glad you enjoyed it. Being there with my boy was great, so I was reflecting (I luckily took his own bike). But I cannot see the reason for the show and so the sustainability. It will be great if I am wrong, and awesome if it grows in leads and bounds, but I cannot see the benefits to any of the stakeholders. Other than test driving different mtbs at the same place, you can shop better online, ride better at any trails, and eat better at most places (ok so maybe some like doing all that at the same place). Feet through the door matter, why will you put hurdles in the way of that. Even Redefine is canning parking fees at their malls.
  21. I attended today and I must say, a bit disappointed. Two things: 1 - Why a gate price? (I knew it, so not a surprise). You want people there. You have food and drink stalls, and vendors which all need people there. Suddenly the overpriced Foodtruck Burger of R80 becomes in reality R180. If I was a potential vendor, no way i will bother with such setups. 2 - None of the vendors (specifically for consumables) had specials. Nitecore bike light, same price as on website. Muc off, same price as at Sportsmanswarehouse (where I can even get an additional 25% of via Vitality) Ok so you could test drive R100k bikes, but I am strarting to wonder about the purpose of these BUsiness 2 COnsumer FEstivals
  22. Tried on Saturday Currently - NO
  23. This week I used The Hub for the first time to sell items. What a pleasant experience. Sold more than 50% of the goods I had on offer within 1 evening. This is my further observation - I priced my items accepting that they are used. Accepting that they are just lying around in the garage so even R50 is better than what I have when on the shelve - I got a lot less haggling than I expected. Only 1 person and even that was a very reasonable offer. - People are very trusting sending me EFTs without me having any history of selling - Aramax counter to door (at Pick and Pay) is an awsome service and both buyers received their goods within 18 hours since I popped it in the red bin Yes, this was lower value consumable goodies and not large/expensive items like complete bikes or wheels. But my experience was directly oppsite to the title of this post.
  24. Price = willing buyer & willing seller Problem with classifieds like this one there is now history of actual transactional data. Unlike the JSE where offers to buy and sell, as well as the last closed deal prices are fairly easily obtained, used items on classifieds do not give you this information. Trying to sell your Sasol shares at R600 will get you now buyers just like trying to buy at R100 will get you now sellers, yet those orders are there. No different with classifieds, you will get the low ballers and unrealistic sellers. But an interested buyer or seller can easily see what Sasol shares sold for today so that they can be better informed. The guy on this forum listing his X item without warranty (now matter how “as new” it is) at basically 10% discount will never sell
  25. That’s to expensive. And their spread is afwul. I have used this, you defenitely do not want to use this for small monthly amounts whilst you save
