  1. Pity you had to experience this. I have bought and sold many items on Bikehub and FB MP and I believe in honesty and good pricing. I sell items quickly due to good/value/low pricing and accurately describe the items. Anything brand new must be unused or kinda used once. Else it is not brand new or new- it is used. They misled you IMHO which is not cool. Karma sorts out people like that. A red flag for me is this "my wife only wore it for a few training sessions"- that tells me it is neither brand new nor new- it is a used item probably worn for quite a few sessions. The marks on the strap (after you received it) bear this out - however the scratch on the screen is a biggie and this watch is NOT new in any sense! that scratch should have been clearly indicated in the ad and with a pic of the scratch. Whoever the seller is, thumbs down.

Agree - Garmin is the best. You will get some great specials as the new Garmin range is rumoured to launch between now and possibly 2028 - NOBODY knows but plenty rumours that it might be soon.

    Just some comments -

Saphire glass not worth it - as per Interweb it seemingly darkens display (so they say) - I have normal glass and just purchased a glass screen protector (like cell phone). Fits perfectly - not visible at all (I have Fenix 6x Pro Solar). Still have the first one on and its been scratch free from about 1 year now.

Solar Screen - ABSOLUTELY not worth it. Mine has it and if you have it in the sun daily for many hours it adds maybe if few hours to the battery. As per Garmin - it does NOT charge the battery at all - it just helps the battery to drain that little bit slower.

I tried the Garmin Instinct Solar- just wanted to say that it does charge the battery on this model, it's like a functional battery solar gps G-shock watch.

Shimano's spec sheets shows those hubs to be fitted with sealed cartridge bearings? Where is your info from indicating "non-sealed" cup and cone?

Also the Giant rear you mentioned it's supposed to come with say "loose ball" which is cup and cone.

Personally I'd prefer the Shimano over Giant unit, as spares will be much easier to find, freewheel units etc. as you won't have to rely on the Giant supply and support chain but rather get the universal coverage of Shimano.

Okay thanks that is helpful- I wasn't able to find that information

So it seems I'll be okay sticking with these hubs, thanks guys for the comprehensive info!

very hard to comment without specifics like brand and models of hubs under discussions

    So specs should be-

F- Giant Tracker Performance Boost 15x110, sealed bearing

[R] - Giant Tracker Giant Sport QR141, loose ball

    What I got instead is:

    F- shimano FH-MT410

    R- Shimano FH-MT401

  5. So I bought a new bike and the specs of the bike online said the front hub is a sealed Giant unit. In the bike shop I checked all specs except the hubs for some reason (trusted the web specs). Then I see the front hub is not a sealed unit and not a Giant hub either. (The rear hub is also not a Giant hub, different to the web specs)  Dragons sports are the guys to contact and Gavin Salt tells me they made a running change and on dragon's website it is stated that the front hub is a non sealed unit and not a Giant hub. I didn't even think to check dragon's site beforehand to check for specs. Kinda disappointing.

Gavin basically said it makes no difference and if I want a sealed hub I must wait until next year and then there may be rotor compatibility issues.

Any thoughts on this from anyone who knows more than I do?

And how much better is a sealed hub?

  6. Hope you bail very hard on your next ride and go to hospital ????????????

    Wow,.. Talk about karma.. sheesh...

Modderfontein used to be called a Nature Reserve

The signs and wording now just say Modderfontein Reserve

The word Nature has been deleted...

They also have removed many of the larger animals out of the reserve...

  7. So its a real oke. With a real workshop. Who just happened to forget the difference between a 650b and 29 fork. Who just happened to forget about the thru axle. But was happy to take your money and then send the fork and is happy to mess you around for days. This is 1 dodgy oke, he must refund you and then you send him his fork.

  8. Nice carrier. I have a hatchback and I have on mine the Saris Bones 2. This new EX one works even better with spoilers on top so it looks awesome. My dual sus just fits on the 1st attachment point but not the 2nd- I got a bike bar for this purpose and it works well and does the job creating an artificial temporary str8 top tube- any of them will work whether Saris or the buzz rack one from Sportsmans' or the used Thule one I have which I luckily picked up for a bargain on Bike Hub.

I recently bought myself the SARIS Bones EX 3-bike carrier.

Unfortunately, neither of our dual sus bikes' frames are compatible with the carrier and it looks like I need to buy the Bike Adapters as well now

Now, it doesn't seem like there is stock anywhere in SA, but Cycle Lab have a decent price on the THULE ladies bike adapter.

Any insight if these would be compatible with one another?

Common sense would say these Adapters are much of a muchness in terms of difference and should therefor work either way...

Also don't want to dig myself further into a hole.

  9. Had a good ride there today. Trails are looking good. Had fun on the berms and the forest section loops are good fun. Circle loop out to end off. The lady with the dog on the mtb trail with the dog.. on the little bridge thing.. that was dumb.. was either me or her and glad she jumped out the way.

  10. Modderfontein used to be called Modderfontein nature reserve

When The Zendai chinese came along the name was changed to Modderfontein reserve...

That for me said it all..

Reserved for development and complexes etc was only a matter of time until they skopped the animals out.. each year the "reserve" grows smaller...

    Oh well

    Progress? For some..

Pity that South Africa does not have proper safe protected places.. safe from crime and development and corruption.. like Central Park in NYC in the mighty USA...

Starring to ride more around my area.. becoming a grateful tourist in my suburb..

  11. Go to Huddle Trails group on Facebook-

big discussion there & they respond-

Not just Huddle full of walkers with attitude (some of them) on MTB trails-

also Modders, Cradle Moon (bad), Wolwespruit, Red Barn, etc

Seems these land owners make more money from walkers who walk less distance than MTBers ride, and who also spend maybe more money with more ppl at the restaurants etc

I know Wolwe had politics and what happened there.

Just me ranting........Was at Huddle Park 3 weeks ago and my oh my what a disaster!

What was so interesting about how many people with dogs, prams and kids were wondering on the bike trails.

To add to that, there were so many un-leashed dogs running around that they actually cause quite an obstacle when trying to ride.

I can see why the number of cyclists making use of the trails is dwindling down. I saw a total of 4 other cyclists on the trails.

If i can remember, the rule was that all dogs are to be on a leash which looks like is no longer the case. It's not like there is limited space for everybody to make use of. There are dedicated trails for each discipline.

I must say that i was very disappointed in the lack of control exercised by the dog walkers that i will not be heading back to Huddle Park again. You pay R50 to play dodge the dog, pram or walker.... no thank you

  12. Rode there today- 25 min wait in the traffic queue just to get in-

perhaps an online system will speed this up? like northern farm or buffelsdrift are online.

The entrance road is an obstacle course unless you're in an auto 4x4! lol.

Once in there were walkers but they thinned out deeper in-

trails are looking good and had a great ride!

  13. I wrote a long post then deleted it. Its just BS & dbl stds- typical anc thruggery.

Rode today at Cradle Moon- lekker , tuffer than expected- nice variety but

way too often the walker and mtb trails were one and same even single track tech sections- why oh why do this- just an accident waiting to happen

  14. Same here. I had 2FO's and they were fine. Got rid of them as I need a very wide shoe, now I have 5TEN's  which are perfect for me and I love the stiff sole. Yeh I got numb too, but I wear insoles as I have a high arch and the extra cushion in the insole prevents numbness.

I get numb feet with my 5ten Impact VXi Pro. On the same trail I don't get numb feet when using my 2fo clips. My 2c: its all about sole stiffness.

  15. I like nite rides- I've got the bar light & the helmet light & a jacket for when its freezing in winter like now at night- i'm keen for Wed nite rides........ something special about night riding! amazing how few people really like it.....

I've ridden there from the beginning when they still used the top gate as the entrance - done it both clockwise and anti clockwise, If i had to choose i suppose anti clockwise, but I think changing direction of the trails once or twice a year makes it a bit more interesting - too much of the same thing can make it boring if you ride their often enough.

I've often made the suggestion that they should cut a trail between the 1st gate and the payment gate - when we used to start at 33 high street it was a lekka much longer trail - now if you start at the same place then almost 1/3 is on tar. It would be nice to get Wed night rides on again - start and end at 33 High street without the tar
