  1. No antibiotics, also ruptured playing football at a company "team building"
  2. Hi, I ruptured mine in May and went through the same things you gong through now. Only thing can say is do as much rehab and possible and listen to your physio, they will tell you when it's safe to get back on the bike. Everyone is different and also depends on how disciplined/motivated you are in the rehab. About that missing calf, it helps to see a biokineticist after you finish the physio, they will help bring it out of hiding. Good luck and wish you a speedy recovery.
  3. A few years ago I broke my arm and couldn't ride. I called the "race" office and told them I wouldn't be able to ride and asked what should I do because I wanted to give my number up for substitution and didn't know anyone who wanted it. I got very disinterested response saying I don't need to do anything and they don't want the entry back. I asked if they wanted my name so they could cancel it, they said not necessary. So don't know how they can penalise people for not pitching when they not bothered by it.
  4. Not sure where I was judging anybody? My first comment pretty much says the same as you saying. My second is a statement of fact. Maybe you were judging me?
  5. Last time I checked, no one was called to the podium to collect their prize for winning group a to zzzz. If you want to race, buy a racing licence (and hope you make the index requirement to get a start. Otherwise take it for what it is, a good day out riding you bike.
  6. I think you missing the point, this a timed fun ride. If you there to compete, either race in the licensed cats or work on your own open seeding. Let the rest of the fun riders enjoy their once a year traffic free ride around the peninsula. They make up the biggest number on the day.
  7. PPA made 4.7 million on this last year, surely they should thrown that option in for free
  8. Sadly, common sense not that common anymore.
  9. I have a similar problem and put some Vaseline Blue Seal on the pedal at the contact points with the shoes. No more squeaking.
  10. Hi Jeroen When going through the ingredient list for Classic and Marathon products, noticed that colourant and flavorants are not specified and that both products use a blend of non nutrative sweeteners, sucrlose and acesulfame-K. Why are the colourants and flavourants not specified? and when designing a product for endurance athletes, why use non nutritive sweetners when this adds no value to the performance of the product and is effectively adding additional chemicals into the body? Thanks
  11. Unless you planning on riding in cross winds.
  12. I read somewhere, can't remeber where though, that aero becomes more important from about 37.5 km/h + speeds
  13. Try loosening the spring tension in those conditions, worked for me.
  14. On paper a 53/11 is a "faster" gear but on the road it's a different story. In reality how many of us can say we grind in 53/11 on regular basis for long time periods? Until recently 53/12 was the "fastest" gear available which is in fact "slower" than a 50/11. So unless you are superman and can push a 53/11 for a long time there is no disadvantage for the compact on the flats and downhills. On a long straight downhill you may lose some top end but nothing a good aero position can't make up for. I used to be anti compact until I was forced to ride it. Now, don't think will ever go back to standard. I have been using for almost a year and never been dropped due to lack of gears on the flats. I can easily stay with guys riding 53/39 rings and the benefit on the hills is a much bigger advantage. So imho, unless you superman, a continental pro, or like grinding, compact cranks will be better suited to most other riders. The interesting thing is that most criticism of compact cranks come from guys that have never ridden them any length of time. But end of day it's a personal choice, so there is no right or wrong answer only experiences.
  15. Please explain how a compact would put you at a disadvantage on the flats?
  16. http://www.sport24.c...doping-20121107 quote SA cycling star Daryl Impey added: There's many of us paying the price for these clowns. Life time bans plus financial pay-backs to sponsors." unquote Wonder if he still has this point of view?
  17. The basic principle is offer and acceptence. The rest is advertising. As long as the sale price is valid, don't see what the problem is.
  18. I don't undestand this strava culture and fascination with PBs based on time. To me it means nothing. There are too many variables that affect it. (list too long to go into) It's the same for race times. More important to me is how many people finished in front of me overall and in my age group. That gives the best indictaion on how I am really doing. Also call me old fashioned but I prefer to race someone face to face. Nothing better than dropping someone on a climb or finishing a race in the with the winner fo your start group. As you get older there is always someone to beat out on the road and that's how I define my PB. How did I place compared to that person. Strava is just a training tool, it does not define you as a cyclist. I still ride with a Cateye, avergae speed and distance is all I need to know.
  19. Mohair socks a must, keeps feet warm even when wet.
  20. Stan's 3.30 hubs with crest rims.
  21. What is a reasonsable life expectancy from a pair of sunglasses? I try and get 5 years.
  22. Vipa over Epic anyday
  23. It's all in your head, they do make excellent products but there a few manufacturers out there that do the same and better. There is something funny about that "S Works" tag that hypnotises people into blindly parting with their cash. Hope whoever came up with the tag got a fat bonus, but then again Americans are always the very good at marketing.
  24. Don't think you can resonably expect zipp quality at 1/4 of the price. It's about expectations.
