  1. Maybe this.... https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/fat-bikes/488968/titan-whopper-race
  2. A mate of mine from JHB was going to a conference in East London... he accidental booked a Return Flight to PE and had to drive the 300km there and back ????
  3. I would recommend getting something like this.... https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/hardtail-mountain-bikes/485303/silverback-stride-sport Old School V-Brakes, Coil fork, 6061 Alu Frame, and virtually ZERO maintenance for R1700, and get a new Saddle, if he is not comfortable he will stop ridding... something like these... https://www.cyclelab.com/product/velo-vl-6090-comfort-men-s-saddle https://www.cyclelab.com/product/syncros-gel-ladies-saddle This will enable him to go for a comfortable 30 min ride without any worries. If he is conformable he will enjoy it, if he enjoy's it he will do it more often, if he does it more often he will get fitter, if he gets fitter he will be able to ride longer, and this will improve his health and drop his weight. Once he has dropped some weight and "IF" he wants to take the next step, he can get a newer 29", I would recommend ... https://www.specialized.com/za/en/mens-s-works-stumpjumper-st-29/p/157590?color=253579-157590
  4. What are his Goals? Fun and being outside or Fitness and Weight Loss I would recommend getting a 26" Hard tail bike with strong (heavy) wheels. You can pick them up Second Hand quite cheaply these days.
  5. What type of Riding does he want to do ? and what is his budget?
  6. Hi Johan, I also had some Specialized (Carbon) MTB shoes that I loved and the velcro stop sticking... I bought some valcro strips ( you can buy then for anywhere , Checkers, Makro, Clicks, Crazy Store) . you only need to replace the fluffy side. Shaved the old velco off and glued the strips on ( with Super Contact or Sew-Simple). Got another 3 years out of them until the inner padding started to fall apart. This could tie you over for a while until you find something you want. I did Replaced them last year with Ryder BORA, these are not as comfortable on the bike, but are more conformable OFF the bike at the coffee shop or walking around. https://www.rydercycling.co.za/ryder-products/shoes/bora-shoe-detail It does come with a BOA too. https://www.rydercycling.co.za/ryder-products/shoes/bora-mtb-2-0-detail
  7. @Nico van Loggerenberg Where are you based? Are you looking for something local or will you buy a bike you have not seen (ie from another Province)?
  8. @eddy I am genuinely interested... What would the claim be and how would you process it? Would it be for : R10000 - the price of the Bike ( which you haven't paid anything for, but you believe you you have some rights too) R15000 - the difference between the Exact new bike at R25000 less the bargain at R10000 R5000 - the difference between the Exact used bike at R15000 less the bargain at R10000 R3000 - the difference between bargain at R10000 and the price you could sell it in a weeks time for R13000 or something else like R1000 for wasted time?
  9. Aaah the grey area... The buyer thinks he has a 'Deal' and the seller thinks he has a 'Viewing' or the buyer thinks we have a 'viewing' and the seller thinks we have a 'deal' What if the seller, thinking he has a 'deal'... goes and commits to another 'deal' expecting the buyer to pay full price.... To me, this is why the deal is only concluded when the money clears the bank.
  10. @ChrisFWhat happens if I change the scenario a little... Seller Posts ad: Bargain Bike for R10,000 Buyer Responds : I would like to take the bike, can I pick it up this afternoon Seller: Sure we have a deal Buyer: Great 1 hour later Seller: I have someone else interested, they are at my front door with cash... are you still coming this afternoon? Buyer: Yes I am, Please hold it for me Seller: I can, but then you need to do an immediate payment for R5000 or cash send. if you are not committed then I am going to sell it to this guy. I can't risk loosing the sale. Buyer: We had a deal! Seller: I have a genuine deal standing in front of me, you might not show this afternoon.
  11. @Nico van Loggerenberg what would you have done in this situation as the Buyer? 12. Well Done Alan!!! It looked Flippen Cold! I was watching with my son (11yr) ... and every time the camera was on Alan, I would say 'That's Alan'... my son could not understand how I could make out Alan with all that mud when you couldn't see the SA Flag on his jersey. I then told him I was looking at the Lefty fork... and went into a discussion on Cannondale's Left suspension... Good Times... Thanks Alan!
  13. A Fortuner is classed as station wagon ????
  14. Hi Guys, I am looking for a Old School MTB Handlebar (25.4mm Clamp diameter) . Happy to buy if the price is right. Preferably Raiser bar >=600mm Thanks
  15. Maestro Gone????? WTF!!! Maestro has been Great !!! I can't believe they have taken it away. I suppose with Live Valve they don't need it.
  16. Greg has doubled back, Mark and Charl have have gone a little further down the road. When looking at Topographical maps it's easy to think you know where you are "there's a Mountain' on the right, must be this mountain"... so easy to get lost
  17. How did they miss the turn? Greg Philps is also going to have a long day... hes already done about 45km off track
  18. On the way back from the airport this morning I was running low on fuel took Linksfield off-ramp. Only to run out of fuel on the bridge. A cyclist stopped and assisted me 'prime' my Fortuner, and saved me walking up to the petrol station and back with my jerrycan. That small gesture goes along way in giving cyclists a positive image. A BIG thank you!!!!
  19. The CST Rock Hawk allows you to select options... Wire bead is R190 Tubeless is R370 https://bike-addict.co.za/products/cst-rock-hawk-mtb-tyre?variant=32192449740884 So i assume that it is R380 for the Tubeless Folding Bead on the CST Patrol
  20. Although I agree that scramblers are a menace, in a similar vein, I am sure other sectors of society consider cyclists 'selfish menaces' too. The MTB who ignores the 'No Bicycles' sign in sections of Emmarentia dam ( Yes, I am guilty of this too) The MTB who ignores the 'Private Road' signs in Northern Farms The Roadies that ride 2/3 abreast blocking traffic The Mountain Biker who drops a gel packet on private farm land that chokes a cow I believe that the we all need to respect one another, this includes MTBers , Farmers/Private Land owners, Joggers, Dog Walkers, Cars, and Table Mountain Park Ranges. I am not saying it right to put Spikes in the path, just saying that if the Scamblers/MTBers adhered to the NO Entry/Private Land/ No Motorbikes/ No Bicycles/ No Trespassing signs, there would be no need for the spikes.
  21. So I have a Giant Anthem x29 (2013/2017 Frame) and a Momsen 529.... but two weeks ago I went Bike Packing with my 26" Scott Yacora with panniers (extra 9kg of gear). The bike has 3x9 Alivo and V-Breaks. I soon realized that although it is more conformable doing the 35KM Magalies Monster on a R40k Duel-sus 29er, you can still do it on a R2K, 26", V-break bike (like I did 15 years ago).
  22. well Done Matthew! Regarding Gloves... I normally wear my half length cycling gloves under a pair a cheap fleas gloves and then remove the fleas gloves after 30 minutes or so. Glade you enjoyed the race.
  23. I went to PwC on the 10th April with by 11Yr and 9 Yr and the 2 jumps on the Skills side were closed and well as the BMX track. we wer very disappointed. Call before hand and check if the tracks you want are open.
