  1. Not too much time left for that. As far as I know it's pre-entry only and they close tomorrow. Just do it.
  2. Dividing by zero makes more sense than riding this bike on the Epic. My legs would divorce my body if I tried this.
  3. Ahem... Rule 95: Under no circumstances is it acceptable to raise one's machine above your head.
  4. I'm pretty sure Knolly's own website wouldn't have highlighted the flaws in their own designs. Then again, I don't think a company would employ a design that has no merits either. I am sure that in theory it works at least as good as a regular 4 bar system, but in practice the additional linkage and yolk has to improve the ride by enough to outweigh the potential for mishap in the extra parts. From their marketing blurb it sounds like it at least makes life easier for Noel when he designs the bikes. The only way to really know if the design works would be to test it, and even then there are so many other variables that play a role in how the bike rides. I just find it difficult to justify the complicated design. Looking forward to the review.
  5. Is it just me that feels that Warden has an obscene number of pivot points? Don't get me wrong, I know nothing about the bike, it may well produce an amazing ride. I just think that all the pivots are just more places for things to go wrong.

  7. #beanmachine haha, nevermind, great minds obviously think alike
  8. So incredibly sad. My thoughts go out to the land owners and people living in the effected areas. I don't want to believe that something like this could have been arson. The gain for the arsonist could just never even come close to the loss incurred. Then again, I don't want to believe that someone's life can be worth less than a cell phone, yet people get hit with bricks in the face for only the possibility of carrying a phone. I am sad for the state of this country.
  9. Aah, that wasn't immediately apparent from the article, but I guess If I compared your tyre weights to the table I could've figured that out. Still, I would have thought some characteristics could be directly compared despite difference in wheel size.
  10. Looks amazing. Hope this hasn't been destroyed by the fire that raged there the last few days. It looked massive last night. According to AFIS Muratie was pretty much at the center of the fire.
  11. What do the import duties and courier costs typically work out at for purchase from these guys?
  12. So, now, the million dollar question.... Where can you buy these? I basically went round to every single bicycle shop in Cape Town last year to try and find these. Only managed to source a single pace star tyre (no trail star). Oh and mine cost a cool 900 bucks. I believe you also tested the Onza Ibex. For a Western Cape trail / enduro setup, which do you prefer?
  13. The Trek really is a nice bike, but it's just too expensive for what you get in components. Unless the seller can come down by about 15 to 20k Trek is going to have a very hard time breaking through SA's Giant and Specialized saturated market. (oh and with the recent change in local distributor for Trek I'd like to hear more about how the lifetime warranty will be implemented with certainty in the future. Right now Trek's a bit of a gamble for me to buy.)
  14. Loved it! Everything was awesome! Thanks to everyone involved in making this event happen.
  15. Hi NicoBoshoff. Not to deliberately throw a spanner in the works or anything, and for all I know you may well be the man the decides what is and is not open to ride in Jonkers, but I do have 2 cents to contribute here. I live in Stellies and stick to all the rules on what trails to ride. I have kept off all the trails and roads in Jonkers that were closed since the fires. Every time I sign in at the gate I ask the dude that works there what is open to ride, On Tuesday I asked him specifically if the route to get to Saaltjie (i.e. the one in the picture) was open and he said that after 5 (and when the guys are finished logging for the day) it's open to ride. If this is not the case then the gate staff need to be better informed, especially if areas are not taped off either (which it wasn't). That said. I don't want to get killed by rock slides or falling trees, so if there is a miscommunication between management and gate staff at Jonkers that is a serious concern.
  16. Brilliant. I wish I could say that one day when I grow up I want to ride like those guys, but alas, it is too late for that. I'll try my best though.
  17. Geez. This thread has me all paranoid now. Sounds like most times nothing happens, but what do you do when things do go pear shaped? Any doctors out there with some sound advice? I've heard all sorts of conflicting advice (e.g. "suck out the poison" and "never suck out the poison" or "move as little as possible" and "run like hell". I guess much of what you do will depend on the situation, where you are and what kind of snake bit you. Would be good to at least have basic a plan of action in case of a snake bite.
  18. I wanted to go very badly, but my mates are unfortunately too entrenched in their budgie smuggling ways. Next time I'm just gonna go without them.
  19. The designs look awesome guys! Please bring out some Lummo yellow trail socks! I really want to support you guys but unfortunately I'm a bit OCD about gear needing to match. Best of luck with your new venture.
  20. A bunch of new (possibly Strava driven) lines are also developing all over the show on those trails. If the people making those lines continue at the rate it's going now, pretty soon we'll just be bombing down a straight line. It's sad to see how little some people care for the trails.
  21. I used Smoove lube and did all of the above. I wash my bike religiously, cleaning the drive train with prepsol etc. Thing is that degreasers don't dissolve Smoove. After a while it looked like my cluster and top derailleur wheel were baking mud cakes. I'm back to using my leftover Finish Line Wet lube, but I think after this it's on to the world of motorcycle dry lube and home made wet lube concoctions for me.
  22. I cannot even comprehend what is going on here. Amazing.
  23. Riemann P20 is the best that money can buy in my opinion. Its rather expensive though. Techniblock is much cheaper and works nearly as good.
  24. I am very happy to hear that Super Sywurm. I understand that to some it might seem counter-intuitive, but using a light at night for cycling (and indeed for various other activities like driving a motor vehicle, hiking, reading and preparing food) has been proven to increase efficiency dramatically.
