There is a loop through the Kalahari but not during summer. The normal place where the cyclist leave is at the stop street in Schroderstreet in front of the old Gordonia Hospital. Being summer early starts 5am, 6am and perhaps 7am, but it is going to be hot. We are still undecided if we should leave for Heroldsbay, but please send me PM perhaps we can meet, I can explain over the phone, my cycling took a serious back seat the last three years, probably done 200km in those 3 years, but should be good for a 20 - 30km ride.
