  1. I dont have a problem with anyone having an opinion I do have a problem with someone having an opinion and wanting to enforce that one everyone. If he doesnt succeed he gets personal and eventually leaves the hub. Well guess what? We couldnt have been happier..... Anyone willing to do something to advance cycling is normally slanted or run down. Dont think its a case of them being too sensitive to the critisism, but more a case of what you dont know wont hurt you, so they stay away.. I enjoy the debates and its always interesting to read the different opinions, but all that is asked is that everyone gives each other the respect they deserve, and accept the fact that you arent always right.
  2. Problem is that some people dont value other people's opinions. Its their way or no way... If you dont like LA, Cyclalab, etc, etc you are dissed. If you hate them the same happens... Too many highly opinionated over experienced wannabee pro cyclists, sales peeps, mechanics, race organizers, goodie bag packers, bike experts and route planners, and many others I forget about now on the hub that scare the heck out of anyone who would dare to have his/her own opinion.
  3. No need to worry about it -it sounds as if you werent even aware of the fact that you rode much harder than your "supposed max HR" proves that one shouldnt worry too much about it they cannot even test your max HR with 100% accuracy in a controlled lab test. max HR depends on many factors which the 220 formula does not take into account previous sporting/physical activity record isnt accounted for and its possible that you could have a very well developed cardio system - the 220 formula is based on teh ave man in the street, so your "condition" vs the ave man couldbe much better etc.... just ride as hard as you can and forget the rest you will always be able to push your body further and harder anyway
  4. Best advice is to not worry about the HR during a race If you do, you will shackle yourself and not ride according to your potential - ie as hard as possible. Worry about the HR afterwards and be ready for a surprise ito how hard you can actually push yourself. Rather use it during training
  5. Covie - no sweat , I was refering to Crack's comment, not yours..... Crack Ultimate Hubber Group: Members Posts: 598 Joined: 25-January 10 LocationDurban Posted Yesterday, 03:41 PM If youre a roadie and ride like a twat - then dont. Grates my cheese to no end, especially when they give you the finger, for telling them off. Quit that Jibber Jabber
  6. Joey - we dont deserve it, some idiots might, but I canassure you plenty more are not guilty of this behaviour. I certainly would like to believe that I aint... I suppose teh mtb riders who claim the roadies are this and that havent yet come across mtb'ers riding on the wrong side of the road on a busy duel carriage on their way to Rietvlei???? But that would obviously be justified by some stupid argument. BTW I ride both road and mtb
  7. bit harsh to generalize cause of this incident most cyclist do try and behave in a manner that is safe for themselves and motorists. some people do have attitude probs and do think they own the road.... they are fortunately in my opinion in the minority. name the guys/s or girl/s - that should be enough punishment for them if they have a conscience
  8. I am 1.88 and have a 60cm Trek, but a 57.5 Pinarello. The bike size depends more on your leg's length than overall lenght. Get it measure profesionally at a reputable LBS, then you know for sure.... Brands is like anything else in life, all relative. You will get 1000 different answers to that question, especially on the hub. Buy what you can afford by looking at the best you can get for your money. If you have 4/5 options, post it here and get proper advice. Be specific though with specs of the bike frame, wheels, groupset etc.. What seems a good deal might not be the best you can get.. If you are not in a hurry, shop the hub and you are bound to find a bargain for that money sooner or later. Different story if you want to go new, but for that R , you might have to settle for another starter (first time) bike.
  9. do they do bikes alone? or do you need to have car and HH too?

  17. Does anyone actualy ever know their true max hr? Dont think so. Just use the max Polar reading you have, and add another 5 or so beats. Its just an indication anyway. As for resting, much more meaningful. Take it while you still lying down. Dont know about the empty bladder theory.
  18. not sure what happened to him no one woudl expect anything, just ride like yourself - much better
  19. Xumbugs at cnr Klipriver and Swartkoppies in Alberton, every weekend morning at 7:30 for now, plenty options, plenty groups each with different objective. Safe as the groups are also accompanied by Helivac/Think bike marshals

  22. its also suggested that if you are of the slightly bigger built members of the society (like me:(), its better to sit down as much as possible while climbing. Takes a while to teach yourself and yr muscles this, but its worth it. If you happen to weigh 50/60/70/80 kg's, you will more likely be loving the climbs and "dancing" on the pedals while standing up MTB, just sit and pedal
