  1. Zula

    What front tyre

Conti Mountain King BUT I would suggest running a 2.4, so much more grip
  2. You can run those rocket rons as tubless, but as has been said above a dedicated tubless is preferable for puncture prevention. You rims are tubeless ready so all you need is a valve which you can get from a LBS. You will also need some sealant and an adapter than will fit onto the valve and will then allow you to use the high pressure pump at a filling station. My suggestion is put the valve on nice and tight, fit the tyres and fill them with some sealant. At the filling station fit the high pressure nozzle onto the adaptor and hit the switch. You will hear a pop as the tyre seats onto the rim. Then just let some air out and run your desired pressure.
  3. Fair point. Like I said above, business is business and they needed to entrench themselves in the marketplace and perhaps by farming out work, it was their only way to step up the production process in order to meet the demands of consumers etc. I suppose what I want to know is how are the 'farmed out bikes' desinged and tested? We all have seen the prototypes for the zula and their new split pivot bike, but as far as the kewla 26, 29 and the new carbon bike goes, we have just seen the final product. This implies catalogue buying on their side, which I obviously hope is'nt true. Im sure the full suss rigs will continue to be built in maritxburg by hand and with all the love that they have always been built with.
  4. Agreed 100% I got the 2010 Zula, which like you said had dozens of prototypes before the final product was approved and went into production. It is a worry that they are coming out so quickly with all these new additions and does make one wonder if they perhaps chose it from a catalogue and in fact never did the proper R&D. Like I said before, really happy with my choice and would'nt change it for the world. I just hope that @ morewood they realise why people were so eager to buy the bikes and keep that boutiqe appeal thing going instead of gaoing to taiwan and placing orders.
  5. I have a zula and love it to bits. But do you think morewood is moving too far away from what put them on the map in the first place? Initially they made great hand built bikes in Maritzburg, now it seems like they farming out all the hardtails to the east. Dont get me wrong, not parting ways with my Zula for a very very very long time, its an awesome machine. I just think they've gone a bit mainstream and that loses some appeal. However, it is cut throat business out there and by them expanding their model range is a way for them to make some more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
  6. In JHB for the next few weeks. Thereafter 100%. You know any peeps in CPT training for Sani 2 c? Trying to find a training group.
  7. That would be correct. As well as the 3 weeks prior to that. Suppose all holidays end eventually
  8. Ahh man, where were you last week Back at work sadly.
  9. Like Covie said, very very very personal choice. For me, selle italia is the way forward. The cut out relieves alot of pressure and they have MTB specific saddles which have alot more cushioning than the wooden plank road saddles.
  10. Hey Im also doing my first 70.3 next Sunday (shew thats soon!) I did a sea swim when I was down in CPT over the holidays and I did'nt experience any sea sickness. BUT, make a conscious effort of not swallowing water when you breath. Every little drop tastes like a teaspoon of salt and its pretty darn miff! I trained alot when I was down there and noticed that I could sustain a higher HR for longer periods of time, which kinda makes sense seeing as though there is more oxygen. I wouldnt however get too caught up in all the tech. Rather just listen to your body. They key thought for me is going to be start sensibly, its a long day so you wanna ease into it and find a good tempo.
  11. hey, too much wine last night, only got up now! Im running 2bar at the back and like 1.6 upfront. WRT propedal. I ride with it open the whole time. Unlesss im on a steep climb where I would want as little give as possible. That bike loves the technical single track! Glad you digging it! Wanna put an official ride together for this weekend? Maybe sun morning?
  12. I found that if you use one a few of the tiny cable ties you can tie the 3 cables on the downtube together and they stay out the way and never pop out of the clamp. Makes it abit neater. Also I put a chain stay protector on. The chain slapped around too much and was bound to nick the frame. Love the zula, it truely comes into its own on the swoopy singletracks. Since I put a mountain king 2.4 upfront its been a different bike. Handling is awesome and gives confidence to hammer it into a corner. Also I can run a lower pressure upfront which results in more traction.
  13. anyone keen for tokai tom morning?
  14. was thinking the morning sometime, earlier the better given the heat and all Anytime from 7?
  15. hey chubba if you keen to ride tommorrow at tokai drop me a PM
  16. They do nothing for us other than rip everybody off. Go price a bike on www.racycles.com and then get the RSA price. For exampe a cervelo s2 is 45k here and the same spec is 28k in USA. They also offer rubbish service. So in short, they do nothing for me.
  17. physio dude biokin will help you strengthen it once diagnosed
  18. Always keen for a ride. Count me in!
  19. hey leeu, when you riding there again? Also here from GP and looking for some rides in the area?
  20. thanks for the responses guys! I think the geo is well suited for a TT bike and with a few adjustments it could be we suited to be a dual purpose bike. Time will tell. Anyone else got some views?
  21. I have been toying with the idea of a TT bike of late, but it does'nt seem to warrant the necessary expenditure for the number of times I would use it in a year. So I came along the AR series, particulary the AR4, and to me this bike has the frame design to be a dual purpose. Primarily a road bike but secondly a TT bike. The frame seems to be highly suited toward TT as well as normal road use. It is also very aero in appearance, with all tubes and stays being flat and blade like. To convert it you could get another saddle and some clip on bars, or alternatively a whole new handle bar with new shifters and brake levers, but this is obviously harder to install at will etc. Who thinks this could work?
  22. hahahahaha sweet will do
  23. Anyone keen to head to tokai this afternoon? Ride upto the mast and back don vi the swtichbacks and some of that fantastic singletrack? 4pm ish?
  24. No one here has mentioned petrus se brand, I did it last year and it was unbelievable! Just before knysna take a right onto the uniondale road. This eventually becomes a dirt road. climb all the way until the forest station, get you ticket and there is a path back down again which comes out at the garden of eden. UNBELIEVABLE
