  1. One thing they did in JHB at a particular hot spot (Braamfontein Spruit) was to get police to ride the route used by cyclists on bicycles! That way they can get to all the nooks and cranies etc. This actually worked and the spruit quitened down alot. Havent heard of a mugging there in ages. I think the idea by Bos is great and even though some may think its taking the law into our own hands, I agree but I also think it would be the most effective. Also surely its illegal to live in those caves anyway? The cops should along with the MTB'ers head to those caves early in the morning and arrest the whole damn lot of them or at least forcefully remove them! I think teargas would be the best bet in this instance! One last thing, I think cutting down some trees is a great because it will increase visibility which can only be a good thing to prevent something from happening.
  2. why do triathletes always get such a knock? I say every1 i jealous
  3. I agree with you, open water swimming is a different kettle of fish entirely! But I reckon you'd be fine doing most of your training in a pool and then an open water swim every now and then just so thats its not so foreign. Dont get me wrong, if it were the perfect world Id swim in emmarentia every day of the week! But our municipalities have slipped in a BIG way all around Gauteng and this just ends up witht the risk outweighing the reward. I guess some would say the same for road riding and even mtb, so what ever floats the boat I guess!
  4. Would'nt catch me in that water! Why not just swim at the gym? Thats what Ive always done and managed 32mins @ 70.3 last month. Else make the trip every few weeks to buffelspoort. Also look out for open water swim events like midmar and the sun city swim etc. Risking Ecoli and GD knows what else isnt worth it when you got a reasonably clean gym pool that will at wost give you an ear infection (still trying to fight one)

    Joburg City Tri

Very sad that a lake like that is now no good for swimming. Think of all the years of history that are going to be lost because no one will ever swim in the lake again. The ANC are a useless bunch of morons and soon every natural resource in Gauteng will be squandered. Move south west to zillville, its the last hope!

Go to Mike at SBR sport in sunninghill, hes great!
  13. Dude go find yourself a proper physio and let them give your shins a good rubbing. Generally all these ailments are from an imbalance of sorts somewhere along the lines. Also you have been training for IM so Im assuming you not coming from a sedentary background where you sat on your @ss all day long until last week? Thats generally how they appear for the vast majority of peeps.
  14. Its more the design of an aero wheel than the carbon wheel itself. I ride Mavic Cosmic Elites which are very entry level aero wheels with a 32mm profile and they make the noise you are talking about. I would imgaine that the bigger the profile the louder the noise and also that carbon would in fact contribute to the volume as the density is different to allu. As for the strength, many guys are riding them all over the world so provided its a decent make Im sure it would'nt snap. I do understand your concerns on the creaks/squeaks, I hate them myself!
  15. Great good luck. If you need any help drop a mail to noched@gmail.com You gotta nip these thugs in the bud and give them the idea that Table Mountain is a no go for their antics, Hopefully they get the message.
  16. I agree, why spend 15k on wheels that you dont use more than a few times a year? (unless you loaded obviouly). There is also the argument for clincher vs tubular. IMHO clincher would be the way to go for a wheel that could be used both for training and for racing. But there are so many factors, carbon vs ali, tubular vs clincher, aero vs light weight Confusing!
  17. Hey Tony I was'nt at the Xterra in Buffels but I did 70.3 the week before. Let me tell you that my Xterra wetsuit was fantastic! Thanks for convincing me not to go sleeveless as the water was 14 degrees and the sleeveless guy were looking rather nervous at the start.
  18. Good afternoon I was born and bred in JHB and will be moving down to to Cape Town in the next 6 weeks, which will hopefully be permanantly as I've had it with this place (rant off). We have had the same experience here where these thugs basically took over a certain area in JHB called Northern Farm. It was a ''secure'' area where cyclists pay a nominal amount to ride around, but these guys were sneaking in and ambushing guys left right and centre. I think at times there may have been 3 hijackings on a weekend. The farm eventually had to take action and got a patrol company to patrol the farm and I think they have been somewhat sucessfull but not entirely. Now seeing as though Im moving South West, the thought of having to deal with more thugs is not really appealing to say the least. I understand the size of the area that has to be patrolled by the SAPS and it is by no means an easy task. I would recommend that a meeting be setup with the PPA to voice the concern and then maybe with their backing a meeting could arranged with SAN PArks and the SAPS? One thing I have noticed on my visits to Cape Town is the police presence and their willingness to rid the city of crime. You can in no way compare them to the monkeys we have running the show up here, so they would be IMHO the best place to start. what you think?
  19. Hey guys Anyone doing this race on Sunday? Entries are closing soon and Im in 2 minds about it.
  20. All these 29er fans must get off their high horse and just ride their bikes for the enjoyment and not for 26er bashing. Like has been said above the bottom line is you have to pedal it anyways, and going to an extra spinning class and cutting out pizza will do more for most of us mere mortals than a 29 inch wheel. For someone like Kevin and Burry who are at the pinnacle of the sport, any advantage will help and is justifiable. Even if it faster, how much difference would it make to a guy like me who is just trying to keep fit and have a good time.
  21. agreed if the bank can confirm or the money is in your account wish him happy riding
  22. Solomons cycles in woodmead achtar is a ledge!
  23. The merida is more of a trail setup whereas the scott is a XC racer. So in that respect they pretty different and you would need to decide on the type of riding you will be doing. But the thing I always say is go for the one which talks to you. The one which you love to look at and the sight of it just wants to make your ride. Those 2 bikes are neck and neck IMHO
  24. Also very interested to see the response to this. Bikes in the USA are ridiculously cheaper
  25. They are noisy but I think its a cool noise, kinda like a V8 Also what about zipp 303's? They seem to have a decent rim profile and may be longer lasting than the 404's. But, do you want aero wheels or light wheels? Because if you want really light wheels then there are alot of other options. Personally Id go for the 404's or the mavics, but if you want light, then something like kysyrium sl's
