What year is this? 1932? We have events that all can enter, men and women. Now they bring out events that are for women only. And everyone is supposed to be jovial about it. And sponsors line up to sign up. Imagine now a race organiser pens a "Mens Only" event. Calls of sexism all around, how dare you sideline the women, you evil gynophobe! Also begs the question, why is there a Black Miss USA pageant where only black women may enter, and then a Miss USA pageant where all races are allowed to enter. Having a White Miss USA pageant would be racist and prejudiced of course. Spare me.

Stomach flu is a bitch. When I get it, I eventually just lay in bed. Do not move, do not pass go. Do not speak to me. Leave me alone. Proper home made chicken soup is all that helps.

A few weeks back I was riding with my father, sister, and a friend of hers. Very slowely just cruising a local bike parks "easy" route (Eastern Cape). The friend is riding in front, I'm about 3rd wheel. She screams suddenly and keeps riding. I pass my sister and get up to where she was about 15 meters ahead. As I get there I see a Boomslang at least 2.5m long SPEED over the long grass away from us. The friend just nicked its tail as it was crossing the path. The snake speeds away from us and stops underneath a pine tree, with the leaves and branches starting at least 1.5m off the ground. The Boomslang "stands up", and rockets up into the tree as if someone was pulling it up with a rope. Was amazing to see. 15 minutes later... My sister is now leading, we still going very slow. She screams as she just-just misses a nice fat puffy, about 1 meter long. She and her friend races off. I stop to look at the snake. Casually sailing away, not a care in the world. Having seen two snakes in the space of 15 minutes was quite enough, we made for the car park. And this was after riding this trail for over 5 years and not ever seeing one snake. Now two in one ride. I took the family to Plett for a holiday last week and we visited Lawnwood Snake Sanctuary, a very nice place and very imformative (http://www.lawnwoodsnakesanctuary.co.za/). When we got there my 5 year old daughter didn't even want to approach the glass cabinets, ain't no way. By the end of the tour she was holding the "lui slange" and other snakes in her hand, after she saw me doing it. Snakes are probably the most misunderstood animal out there. The guide jumped into a snake pit full of puffies, all around him. None of them bothered to give him the time of the day. He even kicked his leg towards one a few times. If anything they just want to get away. So if you don't mess when them, they won't mess with you. If they don't feel threatened they more than likely won't try to bite you. The oke was kicking at the snake and the puffy was like, meh. I'm going on a snake course on Saturday, learn a bit more.

I have lots of respect for Theresa. Especially after a recent interview of hers I read: "For Ralph, training has to find its place between work and being a mom, too: “This is a juggling session. If I were ever to be caught doping, intentional or by "vloek" by mistake due to some kind of food contamination or by a TUE confusion, I would honestly feel way too *** about it to ever show my face in a race every again knowing what people think about me.

From the start of the year we had a oke constantly coughing and clearing his throat in the office. Drove me crazy. This was while I was prepping for a 100 miler trail run at the end of Feb. I told the guy a few weeks after he started, dude, maak 'n plan. Seriously. No man, I just got viral bronchitis. I'm thinking, FML. The guy is sitting 4 meters away from me in a sealed office - and I'm trying to stay healthy. 100 miler came and went, luckily stayed healthy. Then we hear oh that dude, had (still has) TB. Nice. I got a bottle of industrial strength hand cleaner on my desk. Clean my hands after I touch anything. Even hand cleaner my cutlery before using it.

After over 20 years in the sport, I am clearly getting too poor to keep getting the nice stuff. My eyes start watering if I have to lay out over R20k for a bike. Probably why I hand down parts to myself from previous bikes to keep the nice stuff rolling longer.
