  1. While I'm in this sharing mood... The past holiday was time for some bike maintenance that I've been putting off for a while: topping up my tubeless sealant. so I took the tyre off and found very litte sealant left as well as this little surprise... guess it could have been avoided IF i did a regular check & top up on the sealant....but all was going so well...out of sight out of mind as they say. New play ball for the dog,I think!!
  2. My kids bought these multi coloured "pipe cleaners" from a craft type shop...for some school project. I immediately saw a much much better purpose for them and hi-jacked a couple... AFTER your normal cleaning procedure...i.e the chain scrubber thingy majik...or my method of stripping and solvent wash... THEN you just run this fuzzy pipe cleaner trought each and every link - it cleans everything that usually stays behind... the chain is now cleaner that the day it was bought!! I promise you... Voila...a happy & clean chain!!
  3. Thought I'll share this pearl of wisdom with yuo guys.... Recently got a new bike...so also had to get another saddle bag & set of spares and duplicate essential goodies. Bought a 10spd quick link and "forgot" to put it in saddle bag... when did I find out? This weekend when I was on a solo ride in a far off place!! Chain started skipping a couple of times at onset od ride...I did not think too much about it...thought it might be a stiff chain link OR just the geras that neede a bit of tweaking from settling in (the bike is THAT new)... Anyways - 12kms into my ride....my 6th sense told me to stop and just check why this chain is skipping more persistently now... this is what I found.... closer look: I crapped myself when i discovered that my brand new quicklink was still at home...talk about Murphy's Law!!! Never in all my years of riding did this happen to me... Well, long story short....The chain was not entirely broken yet...so I "limped" back home gingerly...only applying very light pressure on the pedalling stroke.... AND I MADE IT BACK!! Phew...lesson learnt (1) try not to cycle alone (2) carry all you essential spares with you (3) check you gear and go on your 6th sense!! This being a brand new KNC 10sp link....why the failure?? Perhaps incorrect installation from factory? Dud? I haven't really had the time to put that chain throught its paced yet...so not my fault (I think)..
  4. Hmmm.....pickled fish.....store bought or real homemade??? My tummy is rumbling....
  5. sad - but mostly true....the cycle tends to repeat itself far too often
  6. errr...No actually not!! where does the law allow for poverty alleviation? The law is the law....finish & klaar....it's the same for rich & poor...
  7. He ddi not break it?? He "lost" it?? Not so??
  8. Post of the month!!!
  9. Wow...a true pearl of wisdom!! I wonder if the Op would come back and comment on whether the bike was on a bike rack & 100km journey on farm roads?? PS: i ride Giant (at the moment)...all bikes are equal...some are just more equal than others!!
  10. I'm in agreement! 100%...I'd rather SEE what is about to happen to me...and decide for myself a course of action... I did once pass another cycllist heading in my direction (his right of way...) I cannot say what he snarled at me in passing...would get a warning point!! Probabalt thought i was from Europe somewhere...
  11. Man, you are so right!!! I just cannot seem to come to grips with this one....and i'm NOT an emotional type of guy. I just cannot stop thinking of him...everything he still had to offer...what their kids would have achieved one day...
  12. Yes, agreed...BUT then I'm afraid there is NOTHING that we can do...we will NEVER be like the Europeans community (by the way - A Spanish top cyclist also got killed by a motorist this past weekend...) We are sooo far behind the rest od the owrld i.t.o. mutual respect to other road users...I'm afraid there 's nothing to be done except individual self preservation (by whatever means). stay safe out there...
  13. Nee - ek het hom al n paar keer gesien in Main Rd en op Lourensford Rd...
  14. And then you read the Sunday Crimes article of the BEE champ who has been caught numerous times (twice thsi holiday!) fro drunken driving / speeding in his Ferrari WHERE WILL IT ALL END???
  15. There is actually a commuter cyclist in our area that has a "contraption" on his bike that sticks out 1.5. with a lumo flag on the end of it. It looks pretty naff!! But very effective... I think this dude is a German/ or Dutch...judging by his bike accessories..
  16. BUT - you can't have cycle lanes all over the place....there will be a couple of dedicated ones, i agree...but not nearly enough to satisfy all our cycling needs? The change has to be from the motorists attitude towards cyclist!! Respect us a EQUAL road users...and that willtake a huge effort to achieve!! We have to start somewhere.....
  17. I collected 2x from Velo life in Somerset West....they are readily available in a pile on the counter by the till. PS: never liked the look of these highly visible stickers...but after last week I have decided - bugger the looks, its the message that counts!!! And it is clear for all to see...
  18. Burry NEVER slowed down!!! He raced till the end.... RIP champ
  19. THIS my friends....is why Burry will ALWAYS stay a legend!!! He cycled where others feared to tread....
  20. Nice one Tumbles!!
  21. @AfricanMTBKid A truely great hero has fallen!! I cannot even start to describe my hatred towards recless road users.... Burry - you were my hero!! May the the eternal single track be fast flowing, downhill and sweet, sweet, sweet!! RIP mate. Condolences to Cherise and Stander family.... PS: The world MTB stage will ALWAYS be empty without your presence!! Any Epic victory from now on will be for second place only... I'll comment later on when my sadness and rage are under control....
  22. Née oom!! Jy het net nie mooi opgelet nie....hou jou oe oppie pad!! Ek het so maand terug ook n naaaainer gekoop....beste koop in 2012 vir my.
  23. C'mon guys.... Seem no one has ever experienced Lourensford's great single track?? Oak Valley definately need to move up on that list!! Also - Schapenberg has extended with more single track after W2W this year...I pleasantly surprized last weekend!!
  24. Hmmm...Granny in the red Ferrari visiting??? grab coat...head for door...
