  1. understatement of the year!!! but it does work...
  2. yeah, that was me...a. while back!! Heard that personally from Prof Tim Noakes... I wonder what his opinion will be on this topic????
  3. Wish WE had a store here in my hometown that cares that much!!!! big up....
  4. Faark.....you better NOT make a mistake inthe dark when selecting which bottle to take for the day!!! Remind me never to ask you for a spare water bottle!!!
  5. My Shimano DEORE XT brake disc spesificallye state ..."use with resin pads only!!" 180 front / 160 rear .....more than enough stopping power in alll circumstances! Wet dry you name it...AND my resin pads last loooong - like over a year (two seqasons combined..)
  6. Thanks Tank!! Just what i wanted to hear.... Will be dropping by soon...
  7. I have just returned from a 40km maiden ride on my new "girlfriend"....had to wait almost 3 weeks for her delivery!! My previous girlfriend was a Merida TFS900 hard tail (for 4 years) and I enjoyed her.... BUT - this new lady in my life has certainly turned things upside down... Lots of new features to get used to: (1) 29er - the move up to 29er was a smooth transition...I expexted much more "getting used to"....it was an instant transition... (2) the 2x10 set-up front - being a dude that liked his "granny" on most climbs...once again...the transition to the two blade front was dead easy!! I faced some serious steep climbs this AM...and deliberately focussed on how the smaller blade would asssit me. Once again, the gear ratios are very different, but the ones for climbing those steep hilles are more than OK for me...I'll survive after all!! (3) Dual suspersion - something brand new for me. I did "notice" a bit of bob&weave when I'm engaged in a smooth rythm on the road (leading to the single track paradise). But I'm sure that it will not be a problem - I still need to figure out the proper working and dial in of the Fox shock in any case!! Overall - loved the ride...my ass was a bit tender as the Fizik saddle is slightly narower than my previous one, so I might swap that for something more comfortable in the long run. Apart from that...great ride...me & my girlfriend will share many happy hours on the trails together!!
  8. So, I have a new girlfriend...delivered and collecetd just yesterday... Now I need to kit her out wiff some goodies.. first up a speedo /odo.... what should I be looking at? Are there and nice wireless options? Price approx? I'd go for a Garmin GPS...but that will be at a later stage when the bank has recovered!! I need something good NOW!! Any suggestions?
  9. It is really no rocket science to open and service a fork!! But i suspect the agents and warranty issues are involved...therefore all forks go to agents for service.... @OP....ask JB if he could (1) sell you some spares...if he has stock (2) provide alternative seals... That man is a walking encyclopaedia!!
  10. @ Anne O Have you heard of GoPro cameras? They are fully mountable and perfectly legal to use....Go google it!!
  11. Now THIS proposition can get us somewhere!! I like that an ORGANIZED effort can be done...not some disjointed & individual approach...with that the GA company can just laugh it off!! BUT with a consolidated approach...much more success!!! I will actaully "renew" my PPA membership, if this is soemthing that they can get off the ground. also theHub website as a vehicle to log traffic driving offences....I like that...
  12. Basically what I also have intended with my post! This does however, in no way exonerate the GA Bus company to drive irresponsably! I, for one WILL NOT CYCLE ON THAT STRETCH of road....whether I have an equal right to do so or not. (you gamble with your life!!) AT LEAST NOT UNTIL ALL THE ROADWORKS ARE DONE...it is simply just not safe. {Refer to Dictator's post #119} As for the rest of Cape Town's cyclist vs GA buses issues...I'm in full agreement...with firsthand experience of near misses as well! PS: apologies for spelling in original post - on mobile & out of country...
  13. just to highlight the fact.... My sentiments as well...that route at the moment is not conducive to handle cycclist!! In fact, as far as i know...i saw a sign that prohibited cyclist using that stretch of road....in the opposite direction (if it is where i think it happened)... juts stating facts....
  14. Guys, i drive that stretch of road twice a week.... it is s narrow single lane...so while i feel condolences for the fellow cyclist....I do however have to add....driving a bus on that narrow stretch of road is no mean feat.... being a cyclist - I WILL NOT ATTEMPT TO RIDE THAT ROAD at this stage...the guy was taking his life into his own hands...and came short...there is no place for the bus to manuevure...believe me.. i think this was purely an unfortunate accident - finish and klaar.... the rest of Ct aaods..roads, there bus drivers are to be blamed for recklessness...!!!
  15. Are you refering to the rock wall at Jonkers, perhaps??? If so....it's a bloody loooong steep walk back up!!! THAT alone will kill me...
  16. What about something from a motorobike shop?? Surely the grease used in the enduro scene should be suitable? I'd like to hear HB's comments...
  17. I'm no "expert" in this area...But i think that there should be compatible grease available..after all it is a lubricant...what is so special about that one that is specifically designed for the rear shock?? Same theory as for other lubricants....cycling related wear & tear does nor nearly match the grease tollerances (what they were designed for) i.t.o. rpm's or temperatures etc. etc. So I'll stick my neck out and say - aly ol grease will do...perhaps try one with a bit of Teflon in it??
  18. Comming from J-bay...I guess you just put it outside??? for that air resitance effect? Bloody windy place that...
  19. and HOW did that happen?? Surely not Thule's fault?
  20. Great steed!! Love the colour combo on that!
  21. Those are "buddies" in the true sense of the word!! Worth getting to know them better...
  22. YOU won!!
  23. How common is this?? Haven't seem any on my races, lately?? Perhaps i'm just too middle-of-the bunch??? Le Turbo- good question....if roads are not closed...then surely anyone can ride?
  24. @MTBer....WHERE were you on this fateful day?? If you let your wife / partner ride off by herself...then you should have her properly prepared for all eventualities! (you prob did..as you say that she had difficulty with a tube)... BUT - perhaps because there were already two riders there...it could have swayed fellow riders perceptions to stop or not... A single female rider would have been a different stiry all together, i think.
  25. Amen to that!! i'd say it's more the tyres than anyhting else... My front tyre is the Mountain king...and that sidewall is so reinforced...I don't think anythibnk can poke a hole in that!!
