  1. Not sure if it is still the same route though Old_Eds_21_2016.zip
  2. See AA got two final warnings from ASA last year https://www.pressreader.com/south-africa/sunday-times-1107/20190630/282282436844258
  3. Depends on who you ask (I think especially the 'who's who' in the world of ultra running is well aware of the Comrades.) https://www.letsrun.com/news/2019/05/q-a-with-sage-canaday-one-week-out-from-comrades-a-race-an-american-man-hasnt-won-in-25-years/ (SC finished in 22nd pos with a time of 6:02)
  4. Charl Mattheus tested positive in 1992 for phenyl-propanolomine which was removed in Jan 2004 from the list of prohibited substances. (It is found in OTC meds eg Sinutab, Bronchifu, Colcaps etc. Possible side effect: Phenylpropanolamine may cause dizziness and drowsiness) https://www.wada-ama.org/en/content/what-is-prohibited/prohibited-in-competition
  5. Re Comrades - I was surprised to see how quickly the entries drop off after even 2 runs or so. (And also after 50y, < 20% of finishers) https://secure.onreg.com/onreg2/users/statistics_public.php?id=4315&statisticid=66&checksum=f965e391c2b0691f20c73802fbe0a671&type=html Comrades Marathon 2019 : App Finishes< Finishes > < Amount >0 60211 4003 <=== 0 + 1 ~46% of total starters2 22993 18454 12415 9496 8257 6888 6109 51410 412.. (Maybe that is why CMA is targeting 7000 novices for 2020, as it might be easier to get 1000 new runners than 1000 more returning runners? B2B etc)https://www.comrades.com/marathoncentre/race-info
  6. Some vehicle break-ins around the start area, and at least one vehicle (Polo) stolen. (There was a queue of people reporting cases at SAPS with some officers apparently more concerned to stop watching YT than to take statements.) Visible policing / guards would have helped perhaps.
  7. Can't overemphasise this! Long story short - in 2015 I started ill (RHR 120+) and with a fever. Came to my senses and abandon race at ~21km. (Rather late than never). Ended up at a cardiologist afterwards. No race is more 'valuable' than your health, it is just not worth it. See the larger pic.
  8. If he can't do barefoot, what about Vivo Barefoot? (Froggies?) https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2010/aug/09/barefoot-best-for-children
  9. I always thought it (ab) is prescribed for possible for secondary bacterial infections, but it seems to not be applicable: https://www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD000247.pub3/epdf/full
  10. Travelling on the Gautrain you can hear the cold / flu season has started in all earnest this week. Up to last week it was still only the occasional cough or so, but boy oh boy, this week they are all out in force. (So I will rather be driving in to work these couple of days before Comrades, trying to minimize exposure. Disappointing to see how many ill people doesn't have basic manners / consideration)
  11. Afriforum Springbok Vasbyt Voortrekker Monument 25 km. 13 July 2019 Rustenburg Mountain Race: (Not sure what % is trail) http://www.rtbmc.co.za/route-profile
  12. http://harrismithmarathonclub.co.za/sound-harmonics-harrismith-mountain-trail-run/
  13. I hope the CMA keeps an eye on this: https://www.thesouthafrican.com/news/traffic-latest-durban-pietermaritzburg-protests-why/
  14. Probably only 25K will pitch. (I have seen somewhere that ~20k of the 25k entries qf for this year?) *Edited with info from https://secure.onreg.com/onreg2/startlist/index.php?id=4315 : 21624 record(s) matching your search query
  15. 2018 Comrades stats: On another note, Wally Hayward Marathon (online) entries closes today for the 21 & 42. http://wally.co.za/
  16. Not nice I elected to make use of the bus, departed just before 14:00 and was back in Middelburg approx 14:45. Pain free. I always enjoy Loskop and will be back
  17. Loskop runners, have a good run and remember your ChampionChip. (Might be a bit chilly at the start, 12 deg according to the forecast.)
  18. So did the Overkruin / Kolonnade 32km yesterday.
  19. Yip, the considerations of eg to do 'voluntarily seeding' at the start, looking out before changing direction, show / indicate with your arm & hand that you are going to stop (sometimes even counting down on your fingers), when walking do so out of the way as far as possible, do not run 3+ abreast without leaving a space in between, only take the minimum at water tables seems long forgotten
  20. Isn't Deloitte throwing the organisers under the bus here as I would have thought a headline sponsor will play an active role wrt planing, oversight even advice etc? (Esp an audit company which as a regular sponsor of events in AGN, KZN etc is familiar with the possible risks associated with (and mitigation of) running events.)
  21. I left Centurion 3:25-ish and parked at ~4:20 at the venue, 50m from the club tent and 100m from the finish. 1000x better than last year. The marshals on the R512 Pelindaba road was a good idea. Org was great, nothing to complain about. (In fact I think they did a great job with what they had.) Enjoyed a nice day out on the road
  22. I judge the circumstances eg on very hot ultra's I will take salt during the race, primarily to not 'over hydrate' (iow actually decreased sodium level concentration) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5334560/ Some more: http://www.marathonguide.com/training/coachmindy/hyponatremia.cfm
  23. and don't cut away to the stupid interviews at crucial times!
