  1. Always sad if a running club closes down, I believe the Denel (old Kentron) club is no more (The host of this race : http://www.raceresults.co.za/flyers/den0319.jpg )
  2. ODD numbers are arriving at Post Net's. (Although I entered practically in the first couple of minutes after opening, I didn't get a parking voucher although I ticked the option. Can fellow runners here let us know if you received it?)
  3. Which has some other implications I believe, eg an organisation can still be held liable if the participant passes away say during the 'pre-run', as you can't sign away the rights of your dependents??
  4. If you are volunteering as eg a 'tail walker', parking marshal, pre / post event setup etc you can still participate. (I have 'sacrificed' some Parkruns to volunteer, no big deal as another volunteer will do the same for me next time when I run. (I don't have OCD to chase run milestones.) Also, at my home parkrun certain volunteer positions can be filled by fast runners)
  5. Heads up for Deloitte's on Sunday - if you don't want to get delayed (too much) at the start make sure you are early to get a good starting position. Last year there were ~10k runners + over the three distances.
  6. 'It is with great regret that we have to inform all participants and spectators that Race to the Sun 2019 is postponed to Saturday, 25 May 2019 due to unsafe weather conditions. The downpour of rain throughout this week has caused multiple rivers to flood in critical areas of the route.'
  7. At least the dust is sorted. (Although I don' think it will rain, overcast yes)
  8. Did anyone receive the info? (Or is it the same as per booklet on website?) From FB:
  9. Maxxis Sphinx 2.1. (I see the route files are available)
  10. Anybody have more on this? http://agn.co.za/joomla/index.php/road-running-home/road-running-fixtures
  11. Reminder, Intercare Classic event (2 Feb) closes this weekend (for online etc), only pre-entries for the 21. (It is the old McCarthy 21 / 10 at Rietondale Park, Pretoria) https://entries.timeme.co.za/events/39382-intercare-classic-road-race (Quite a wack @ R138, esp seeing that I paid R120 for the Akasia 42.) Loskop is also open: http://www.loskopmarathon.co.za/
  12. Many thanks guys!
  13. Thanks Dirkitech, is this basically the route:
  14. Planning a visit to SBR - does this mean going around in a clockwise direction only?

  17. Seems the org is really trying to improve, check the info on the website (4000 cap)
  18. Om Die Dam 50 is open. (Maybe just check - I was perhaps not concentrating enough so I have an 'Additional Item' charge of R120 on my receipt. T-Shirt? Not sure )
  19. I see Ann Ashworth clocked 2:35:44 at the Valencia marathon yesterday bettering her previous marathon pb with ~12'. (2:47) Gerda Steyn did a 2:31:04 NY Mar, Irvette van Zyl 2:33:43 at Soweto and Nolene Conrad 2:34:39 at CT, are these the fastest SA woman marathon times this year? PS : OK I see the list is on ASA's website, dd Nov 18: http://athletics.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/SA-road-lists-top-10-7-November-2018.docx
  20. Interesting reading: 'Running in highly cushioned shoes increases leg stiffness and amplifies impact loading' Shoes used in this research: Kulmala_et_al-2018-Scientific_Reports (1).pdf
  21. Unofficial date date for ODD seems to be 16 March 2019: http://www.runnersguide.co.za/pages/calendar/races_in_sa/RacesInSA.aspx?RaceNo=1500058967 Can't wait to enter, as this will be #10 for me
  22. Might be of interest to runners wanting to do the New York marathon. This year NYCC made 500 virtual entries available at $100/$120 per entry to complete a physical run anywhere in the world and to upload it to Strava within a specified time frame. Successful completion would have gained you a guaranteed entry for the 2019 NY marathon. Perhaps keep an eye on this if you want to do it in 2020. https://www.nyrr.org/races-and-events/2018/tcs-new-york-city-marathon-virtual-262m-and-5k-nov-1-4 https://www.strava.com/challenges/nyrr-virtual-tcs-nyc-marathon https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-10-31/run-a-virtual-marathon-this-year-to-qualify-for-one-next-year
  23. Yip, the R55 - R511 stretch is approx a 35km stretch and you are bound to have some local traffic (residents etc) on route. The half-a-dozen vehicles passing me on the R511 kept totally to the right-hand side of the road and were driven very cautiously.
