  1. Correct - se eg https://www.outsideonline.com/1900801/tim-noakes-serious-problem-overhydration-endurance-sports https://www.amazon.com/Waterlogged-Serious-Problem-Overhydration-Endurance/dp/145042497X https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/you-dont-need-sports-drinks-to-stay-hydrated/ etc. (It is more life threatening to over-hydrate than to suffer from dehydration due to the dilution of eg salts, minerals etc?)
  2. Maybe ODD entries are opening on Monday: https://omdiedamultra.co.za/ (I think they meant to say 21 Oct 2019, not 2020 )
  3. Apart from the apparent cosmetics, what are the difference between V1 and V2? Tx
  4. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/olympics/2019/09/30/alberto-salazar-dr-jeffrey-brown-doping-bans/3826670002/
  5. I enjoyed it, good organisation ito of traffic management etc. A bit windy at times but all in all a good enjoyable race
  6. Agree, it was the best race ever for us WW as well. Nice and interesting route, scenery, great (and friendly!) organisation etc. I believe next years race will start at Loskop? So it will be either N11S &| N11N. Must say, I enjoyed cycling the same route (+ a bit) as the Loskop 50km run but A->B does require some 'logistical maneuvering'.
  7. Check your 'Final Race Instructions' email
  8. Just be aware of this if you are travelling on the N4:
  9. Larry can you perhaps confirm if supporters will still be able to get through to Loskop on the N11 anytime before 7:00 or will 6:00 be strictly enforced? (As due to some logistical issue we can only be in Mdb 6:15-ish) TIA
  10. The other races will proceed past the dam on the Groblersdal road, out and back: (I got these from https://www.facebook.com/loskoproadrace/ )
  11. R100 for return ticket with bus and trailer. (Rather confirm with organiser if tickets will be available on Sat.) Alternatively if you are taking supporters along they can enjoy the day at F.E. Resorts, Loskop for R35 pp. Just make sure they get on the road before the road closure. (<7:00 according to Larry's post above)
  12. I have never done this one on a bike, only on my legs a couple of times. It is a net downhill but Bugger's and Varaday Hiill could be a bit 'exhausting'. I am taking a family member on her first cycle event and we are planning on a ~2:30 to 2:45 on our MTB's. (OK make that 3:00 if we need to walk Varaday's) I am sure you will be OK but welcome to tag along if you are also in the 8:30 group
  13. Jouda if all else fails I can get a chip for you today at registration if required.
  14. Will supporters have access to the Loskop road after dropping off cyclist at the school, or will it be closed? (Also back to Mdb in the pm?)
  15. Yes - I mostly measured distances on a map (ruler) or sometimes physically with a vehicle. For Comrades it was just a pacing chart matched to distance markers. Some highlights: Switching to a digital Casio watch (1985?) Upgrading to a digital watch with a one lap function Upgrading to a digital watch with a 10 lap function (Timex) Upgrading to a digital watch with a 50 lap function! (Timex Ironman IIRC) (Remember it were 'manual' laps, capturing the splits to a spreadsheet afterwards.) Then in 1999-ish I bought my first HRM, a Polar S210 (which I still have and is 100% functional). Transferring settings & training plans via sound, which was actually an S410 function which worked (undoc'ed) with the S210 as well: Later on the GPS tech came and I start off doing some runs with a handheld outdoor unit, carried in a waist belt First real GPS wearable was a Polar M400, bought Jan 2015
  16. Spirit of Flight 10k League race (Swarkops AF base) was also approx 1.2km short. (Rumour has it the pace car took wrong turns on the runways / taxiways ??)
  17. OK - He should get 'activity not found' if he clicks through to yours. (I think)
  18. What was the other person's privacy controls set to, and can he see you (on Strava ) (Because this is actually the acid test?) I take it that your privacy controls are not set to 'everyone'.
  19. IAU 50 Km World Championships coming up on Sunday: http://brasov50km.com/en/ SA Team:
  20. Will keep this in mind, thanks. (Currently using Ryder and SMWH products (the latter which seems to be re-branded Ryder sealant?) and honestly no complaints / issues etc)
  21. I have converted Maxxis Sphinx (wire bead afaik) 29x 2.1 to TL and have ridden almost 500 km with it, primarily on (not so nice) gravel roads. Absolutely no issue. (I am not recommending it I am only giving feedback on my non-TR experience).
  22. Yes - six riders from SA.
  23. I hear you Cois - my wife went through this with breast cancer. Keep the faith.
  24. There are perhaps two sides to that coin? https://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/27/health/27canc.html (ref https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/article-abstract/184747
