  1. Personally I believe cramps are primarily caused by (increased) training load, and that mineral supplementation will only cover the minority of cramping issues. I see it as 'Demand vs. Supply' (which is the actual physiological capability at that stage.)
  2. Om Die Dam weather, nice and cool with some drops perhaps: https://www.yr.no/place/South_Africa/North-West/Hartbeespoortdam/hour_by_hour.html
  3. Philip Boardman - a member from our club created a trail around the Zwartop Nature Reserve in Centurion, herewith some info from Philip: Start: Anywhere or BP (Wierda/WillemBotha) or Zwartkop Lapa (Wierda) Route: Wierda/R55(Voortrekker)/Stephanus Schoeman/Alaric/Hans/Imatra/Wodin/Meteor/Viking/Cambell/Tyman (loop along fence around small holdings)/Larry/along wall of Eldo Lake/Cambell/Wierda Suitable for trail running as well as MTB. Also see article in local newspaper: https://rekordcenturion.co.za/140527/centurion-runner-uses-own-money-to-build-running-trail/ 2017-05-04_Zwartkop Rondo.gpx
  4. Thanks Fat Boab!
  5. Is it this loop: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/171369-cradle-new-mtb-trail-360-thank-you-for-the-hard-work/
  6. Om Die Dam number collection reminder: http://www.omdiedamultra.co.za/number-collection/ (Pta runners can only collect on Tue 13 March @ SMWH, Centurion)
  7. Thanks - that is even giving Sunrise Monster uphill!
  8. I see Hot Legs's results are out on Raceresults - what was the (watch indicated) elevation as I see can't find the activity search on Strava anymore? Thanks
  9. Just a pity the route got changed a couple of years ago - I think the 'old' SM was a bit more hilly?
  10. On that point - I did it a couple of times when it still ended in Fouriesburg. Returned last year for the half (+10km) as it was a week after the Deloitte 42 and I didn't want to do another mar so closely spaced, also with ODD coming up. In that context I think the organisers are missing a big opportunity not to include a 32 as well. To extend the half by approx 5km would have been very easy to manage with the bonus of turning around practically on the highest point of the route (SH). (The 21 and 42 are out and back on the Fouriesburg road.) It would have made a nice alternative to the Sunrise Monster, but alas.
  11. Won't a (temp) heel lift actually aggravates the shortening / stiffening of the Achilles?
  12. Spray and Cook? http://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/racing/dr-oetker-baking-spray-helped-win-cyclocross-world-championships-368192
  13. Don't scare the newcomers - that is hectic IMHO! (But I suppose it depends on one's goal, e.g. mine is 10:50 so I train accordingly, ~1200 km Jan to C.) I don't think I have ever seen more than one week with > 100km during prep for all of my C's, and I am of total ave capability. My point is - one needs to do 'enough', not too much or too little, and to judge the 'how' wrt to 'enough' comes with own experience. Peace.
  14. Rumour has it that Loskop stands at over 2800 entries. (Previous years entries was capped at 3500 IIRC - so don't delay! )
  15. Interesting statement on the ASA License Application form: ASA does not own you, how can they prohibit you to participate in say a fun run at e.g. school, church etc etc?

  17. It does decrease the accuracy a bit (depending on the route, more accurate from A to B than on route with lots of sharp turns and switchbacks) as the GPS logging / recording interval is extended. (So a 90km Comrades in 11:30 with recording interval of 20 sec will record a plot every ~45m or so, in theory.) Yes - Suunto syncs to the Movescount platform (same as Garmin to Connect, Polar to Flow etc), and you can configure Movescount to automatically sync to Strava in turn in the background. E.g. from the SST User Guide:
  18. I got exactly 10:05 on Comrades out of my Ambit 3 Sport while wearing the HRM strap. (On 'Best' GPS recording setting. ) I am still experimenting with my SST, can update as I go along (Claimed 10h in best, but also option to switch off display etc which will extent battery. http://www.suunto.com/News/suunto-introduces-spartan-sport-wrist-hr-baro/ If you set GPS to 'Good' it should be OK. I have played around with track logs and you don't really loose significant distance on a point-to-point route on this setting)
  19. An excuse to eat more biltong http://biltongtraders.co.za/blog/the-health-benefits-of-biltong-for-athletes-20150807/
  20. Can only relate to my own experience. Used to do 32's 2 weeks before mar but I moved that to 3 weeks now, with a 21k 2 weeks out. FWIW Good luck with the first, it's a special accomplishment ????
  21. Also mentioned already - but will really be nice if the option "unsupported but with boxes at WP's" could be considered for future rides.
