  1. Specific e-bike races will be good for R&D. As mentioned - only as a separate race or cat like in: http://bhsouthafrica.co.za/south-africas-1st-electric-bicycle-e-bike-race/
  2. Anybody who did the 94.7 & RAC 32km Tough One in the past? From the RAC entry form I see there is a 'Sweat Shop Challenge' where one can get a 'combined medal'? Thanks
  3. All is good until Botha's where the continual (quad) hammering of the downhill sections really start , especially Botha's -> Pinetown. It will make you pray for an uphill until you do get to the little buggers after Pinetown. After PT even the little uphills, which normally would have been a non-event, feel really really tough, especially those encountered going into (larger) Durban area. (For me) the race only really started after ~53km.
  4. I think many of the activities elevation would show the same elevation on Strava, as Strava uses an 'Elevation Database' in absence of a barometer? Viz https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/articles/216919447-Elevation-for-Your-Activity My recordings: Device Distance Elevation Suunto A3 : 93.21Km 1305m Garmin OR650 92.91Km 1380m (Barometer) Strava (S A3 used) 93.2 Km 1403m (Strava's database used it seems)
  5. PS : Try this in the meanwhile to get an idea for Dec? http://www.alsoranrunners.info/December14CG.htm
  6. I think I might end up with the same recipe you and Hacc are using for that last km's
  7. I also find it (prev) useful to dilute water and Coke 50/50 (as it brought the Cho concentration down to ~6%) and to keep my fluid intake < 600 ml / h, i.e. ~150 ml every 15 min's or so. BUT as I got slower (and more bored!?) near the end of an ultra, I exceeded this by quite a margin in the past, causing the loop of - feeling tired - drink Coke - feeling MORE tired (because of the CHo), drink MORE Coke etc. I just didn't realise it at that stage. At the moment I am in an experimental phase re this, but I have not run far enough for proper testing since I started with banting. (Only up to 21's - this will change soon though) So to be honest I am not yet sure how I will approach a mar+, but we will see.
  8. Make sense, and then there is the small matter of electrolyte loss as well See you on the road - Personally I plan for the Akasia Mar end Jan. ATB
  9. Another question, how many riders typically on this event? (I did went to look for previous year's results, but got only dead links, e.g. https://www.asgevents.co.za/pages/results/index.php?rid=0&rp=1 )
  10. Thanks Eon, make sense
  11. My very first time as well - with no seeding my start time is 7:50 for the 80km. Does it mean I still have to finish < 13:00? As I total newbie I thought the start time is @ 6:00, which allowed 7h https://www.asgevents.co.za/satelliteclassic/therace.html Official starting time: 22 October 2016 at 06:00
  12. Thanks for all the info and advice guys, it is much appreciated! Kind regards PO
  13. Dear all OK - I did some searches on the Forum but perhaps not good enough to find the proper info so here goes. My daughter got Olympic MTB cleats, so two questions: 1) Recommended pedals? 2) Recommended LBS (Centurion area) for setup, as I believe it is quite NB to do it correctly. My 'research' up to now shows Crank Brothers, Candy etc are perhaps 'not as good / limited lifespan' as Shimano, and require more rigorous maintenance? Your opinions will be appreciated. Thanks Pieter
  14. See http://www.backtrack...cker.io/#/faq for some answers. The flash interval increases as the object come closer, which might alert the driver 'subconsciously' : http://www.backtracker.io/#/the-device As the data is available a speed measurement of approaching traffic (digital) on your handlebar display unit could perhaps have been a nice add-on Good idea nevertheless!
  15. Hi all My daughter lost her sunglasses at TBRB last week, and it was recovered and handed in to Mondi over the weekend. Many thanks to the person who did it, and also many thanks to Mondi and team who assisted with this. Much appreciated!!! Pieter.
  16. I just finished reading "The Secret Race: Inside the Hidden World of the Tour de France" by Tyler Hamilton, and it does seem to not be as prevalent anymore as in the past? Yes, you will get the odd rider doing it, but even the timings of certain 'standard' stretches in certain races are more or less back to what it was before the widespread (esp team) doping. Reading this book gave me personally a lot more insight into what happened behind the scenes, highly recommend!
  17. Also still undecided, Virb vs. Hero 3+ etc. Any new Virb users venturing an opinion perhaps? Thanks
  18. After spending lots of $$$ / time / energy etc. over a long time on cycle racks (hanging models), exploring various other approaches (while pulling my hair out), I am now happy with the Buzzrack 4 cycle carrier Lockable / can tilt, with lights etc.
