  1. I had this discussion with someone high up in the AR organisation. I said call it world champs but more than half the field will be banned if tested. https://www.outsideonline.com/health/running/training-advice/science/runners-high-can-cannabis-help-runners/ https://www.triathlete.com/training/the-endurance-athletes-guide-to-training-with-cannabis/
  2. come now, I said it a few weeks back when someone in Comrades association declared the 2022 race drug free after a tiny amount of tests. There is no way there were not back markers chucking down illegal substances for pain, or to get them through ahead of cutoff. I have seen guys doping for 5km park runs. Hell there is so much marijuana abuse in ultra trail I am sure it is likely spilling into the back markers here.
  3. Man I used to love power balance bracelets. Similar theory you could spot one from a distance and immediately avoid conversating with an idiot. You need those smoke stacks and side pipes so you can go around coal rolling priuses and EV's without dirtying the whole side of your compensation wagon...
  4. You mean you can have the front brake in your right hand where it should be, so that your biggest stopping power has the fittest hand that has the best fine motor coordination controlling it. Logic is lost on the cycling world and standards are but a myth.
  5. It is always tough with shoes. I know 2 people who went top 10 at Skyrun in decathlon shoes. But really they would do it barefoot anyway. I have no personal testing with them though. My 2c- look for previous models and clearance sales. I am running in last year's adidas and nike trail shoes because I can get 3 pairs for the price of 2 current models.
  6. fair enough. I watched a mamil hike a papsak up mafadi once, 3 reasons- He had a good night sleep(everyone around his snoring not so much), he enjoyed some wine and he had a pillow for the evening once he blew the empty papsak up...
  7. surely a few freeze dried meals and a jetboil will do the trick?
  8. https://framebuildersupply.com/ Alternate method, do your design, source the materials and parts and then either get welding or get someone to weld them up for you. Can easily make a jig as well to make smaller quantities. Places like 'made in workshop' are great for small scale production without investing in a lot of equipment. I have an itch to make my own bike but just need to find the time after building boats, farms, new dairy, on top of family, training and racing...
  9. Ah Man, hard luck on the cutoff, but sounds like you enjoyed at least and that you learned enough. 100milers are unfortunately eating competitions where running breaks out. That night time solitude is something special though, but it is tough. I enjoy it but even compared to an adventure race where 1am-4am you are with a team it is tough...
  10. Get it boxed properly by a bike shop and then get quotes from standard couriers etc.
  11. Now for the important part. How was the 100 Miler?
  12. Scooters are dirt cheap, I think the big Boy Dlight is 17k new, ready with delivery box. You can run that thing 2 straight shifts with different riders, 5 mins to refuel. It will work day and night, get the job done faster. Tyres are cheaper and more durable. You can also hire anyone who can pass a learners test. They don't have to be somewhat fit or physically capable. This opens up a larger labour force. E-bike will fade in performance as rider tires, it is slow to charge and ke load shedding.
  13. I have driven through a few township areas recently and seen the continuous train of bicycle commuters out of mamelodi. I have yet to see a top end mtb or road bike there. You see a few which definitely look like a worker given an old hardtail or 26inch bike which I can appreciate. We have a farm worker on a momsen hardtail that was the mrs old bike. I still think this is mostly driven by demand for affordable high end bikes and parts. I often wonder how many are buying bikes and parts for dirt cheap knowing there are high chances of it being stolen...
  14. Ammunition is expensive and lawyers are even more expensive. Make sure it is insured and claim...
  15. I am going to go =>Warden, Bethlehem, Clarens same as last year. Entered big mountain, but I can still barely grip a handlebar after tripping and falling on Sunday so we will see. If I am in tears after day one then the mrs gets to say 'I told you so' and I will go get Xrays.
  16. I have done a few races navigating with a fenix 6x pro, I do have good eyes but even in the dark at cullinan to tonteldoos it was good enough for me. I do think though if you have a good watch then a proper bike unit would be better.
  17. on this note- unpopular opinion, but if you have the cassette off the hub, prepsol and a high pressure hose does wonders. In fact if you are taking things apart and are changing bearings or putting fresh grease in then prepsol and a high pressure cleaner do wonders.
  18. I know from Motorbike days X-Factor sports will do custom trailers to get what you need. Might be a good place to start.
  19. I think ours has been cutting grass since before I was born. It is ancient. Which might also be the problem. I am sure once it has some compression again it will be a bit more reliable...
  20. I have a stihl that has been standing since Jan, 1 load of dirty fuel because someone in the household thinks that leaving fuel tanks open in dusty environments is perfectly fine... I have cleaned that carb maybe 10 times this year. I am about to order a new fuel filter/pickup/tank and then a piston and head for it as well. Man I hate those stupid little motors.
  21. This thread has inspired me to monstercross the old hardtail. If there a way to run an XT 11 speed rear derailleur on a gravel shifter/brakes
  22. There are some other hidden gems like Tranquilitas
  23. Interestingly enough 2 fishermen in the states have been jailed for cheating in a fishing tournament. $2500 fine, 10 days in jail, 18 months of probation and the one had to hand in his $100 000 fishing boat. All for putting a few lead weights in a fish to make it heavier at weigh in.(fishing doping) Untill one of these big name cyclists and the team and the doctors and managers and coaches are sitting in jail for serious time, doping will go on and on.
  24. what works well with the shooting electronic ear protection is that when you are not using a machine you can still hear really well(in fact better), no one will sneak up on you and you can still have a normal conversation between cuts etc. I am considering buying a set for my one laborer as well so we can communicate easy while he helps when I am fixing vacuum pumps, stationary motors, generators and things like that on the farm.
  25. One thing that migrated to the workshop a few months back and has been there ever since is a pair of electronic ear protection. I have had them for a while for shooting and they work so well. Basically they can amplify the quieter noises and as soon as dangerous noise levels are around they kick in and protect you. But in a workshop they are even better, you can still hear everything around you and are comfortable and aware of surroundings but as soon as you kick on a loud saw or whatever they kick in and protect your ears. Gone are the days of ear plugs in and out and shouting at the Mrs because you forgot your ear pro is in.
