  1. Out of interest, what is the attraction here?
  2. Has the Franschoek valley one grown? Drove past at lunch and it was a smallish fire in some reeds right next to the road.
  3. Still going. Cant see down the valley but at sunset the smoke was still pretty thick down there. Its made its way to the end around Botmaskop side and seems to be going round the front.
  4. And what about before they were winners? Or did that just happen overnight?
  5. Not to be negative or anything...
  6. I got the 2.35 Magic Mary's for my front tyre as a present and haven't stopped smiling since Christmas day. I was previously running the old Nobby Nic's and did a few thousand km's on that and its still got a bit to go but the difference is HUGE. Not sure how they compare to Hans Dampf's but i've also heard the new version of the Nobby Nic's is great too.
  7. Props to the police for being efficient about it. Separate issue but I know someone who was scammed on Gumtree for a few grand and she reported it to the police and the detective on the case tracked him down and put him in jail, with a lot less info. than what seems to be evident here. Person received all the money back from the scammer's lawyer. Often far too quick to recognise things that go wrong in SA and don't appreciate stuff like this!
  8. My brother and I have been using it for a while on our forks. I've got a 140mm Sektor up front and took it in to have its first service according to RockShox's specified time, the mechanic said I've still got a good 50hours left on the seals. Not sure if thats down to the Brunox or not...
  9. Great, thanks. Ya long travel trail bike. I'm not around, back in the Cape but he is. Maybe I'll ask him to get hold of you! Thanks for the info.
  10. My brother and I are busy building up a 456 Evo2 and I'm trying to convince him to go single speed. Our budget is R10 000, we sold an old BMC soft tail that was gathering dust. We have got wheelset, frame and fork and are left with R3500. Basically just needing groupset, bars and pedals. Ryanpmb you got any suggestions on a good single speed setup for the Hilton area? Advice on single speed vs. 1x10? Its not going to be used for anything serious, more of a play around bike. Would be our first single speed so new to it. Cheers!
  11. Any idea when the winners are being announced?
  12. The fact that a number of professional athletes go low carb up until an event and then seem to use carbs as an added "go" would support the theory in the original article about a ketogenic diet not being able to supply you with enough energy fast enough for a quick burst of speed or power output. At the end of the day these professionals are spending upwards of R100k on their racing machines with huge amount of sponsorship and other investment in them. I find it hard to believe that they will not also then be benefiting from the absolute best dietary advice. Not to say now that we should all adopt the method of supplementing carbs into the diet, I just think "hardcore" banting die hards would be fairly ignorant if they didn't acknowledge the merit in doing something like this if your body allows it and responds well to it. My opinion is that the best method/approach to any diet or nutrition is to first approach the diet/lifestyle objectively. So many people get told about something (I was a prime example of this) and all the benefits, how great it is etc. and dive in head first without reading/discovering counter-arguments or any more information. Second most important is listening to your body and seeing how it responds to different inputs. Sort of like a science experiment, changing one variable at a time until you find your perfect "formula", even if it takes years of experimenting.
  13. http://eatingacademy.com/sports-and-nutrition/ketones-carbohydrates-can-co-exist Really interesting article in response/support of this. Also realising this does come from an M.D., not an expert sports nutritionist, its just another perspective to be aware of. "Know your engine first, then fuel it appropriately."
  14. Howsit guys, need some advice/help please! I'm a student in stellies and been banting for 3 weeks now. Been very strict about the amount of carbs I've been eating and staying away from sugar. I started banting because I am quite badly gluten intollerant and have always thought about giving up sugar. After reading an article by Sean, the editor of Tread, about his experience with banting and riding, I decided to try it. I've been riding since I started banting, roughly 2 to 3 times a week, average of about 25 kms a ride. Busy with exams so I don't have much free time. I've found on my rides that I'm pretty low on energy and climbs that I was cruising up are now taking a lot more out of me. I've also found that my legs are staying stiff/sore for a long time. I can't think of a day in the last three weeks where I haven't noticed my legs, this was never the case before. I could ride 40kms fast and not be stiff the next day. I don't know if I'm not eating enough fat but I have found that it's quite difficult to actually find the right fat and enough of it. Anyone got any idea when I should come out of this "sluggish" stage and when my legs should come right again? Also, what are your guys best fat sources? Preferably something on the cheaper side if possible (student budget). Thanks in advance.
  15. Where'd you get those?
  16. Where abouts are these trails? Where can you enter? Might give them a spin this weekend!
  17. To the top of G-Spot (an actual place). Too good not to share.
  18. Finally finished my build after what has seemed like years of waiting! Thanks to Dwayne and David Arpin from Big Wheel Cycles in the midlands for helping with the build. They worked into the night on the bike and wheels to get it ready for a race the next day. They're also PYGA dealers! Thanks also to Brenton from Zion Bikes n Somerset West (hubber Bibi) for all his help with speccing the bike and parts supply. Great guy, great service and some cool parts!
  19. Oops about the speeding fine, didn't even see it in the picture. I mean I have all the other parts except the rims. Big thanks to Brenton (hubber Bibi) for all his help with the spec set out, demo ride, frame purchase and more. Can recommend him to anyone! More pics to follow...
  20. Few more days till I can ride this, waiting on the rims! Can't wait!
