  1. Choose pricing in CZK - the discount code might not work, but it's only R100 a month. :-S
  2. I took the GoPro out and made a few Rouvy video routes too. it's a cool feature - especially if you're going to be time trialing a route maybe and you want to ride it a few times.
  3. Nope - you download both apps. The video routes will be deprecated first on the "Rouvy workouts" app, but you can still use it for workouts. Rouvy AR is for video routes with avatars. clumsy, but not a bad solution really
  4. I've been following with some interest. The seat stays look a lot like an early 80s Peugeot style (although I don't think the clamp is theirs), but everything about it says French bike to me. It seemed to be more of a convention for other builders that the seat stays would sit on the outside of the seat tube rather than brazed on to the back of the tube and clamp. Even the never-to-be-seen-again design fits the pattern of being very French. :-) I have also learned that the Peugeots used Swiss threaded BBs back in the day, and that these can be reamed to an Italian thread - so bear in mind your BB may originally have been Swiss. otherwise happy sleuthing
  5. You'll need the Wahoo app for either iPhone or Android, but that's just for Kickr calibration/software upgrades. Both seem to work fine, and we have a new Kickr and one that is a few years old. You shouldn't need an ANT+ stick for the kickr (you might need one for a cadence sensor or some HRMs). You can use bluetooth on most devices to connect to the device (Android/iPhone/iPad or laptop). You'll need Trainerroad/Zwift/Rouvy/etc. to give you routes or workouts to ride. Different experiences/different preferences here. You want something like Zwift, Trainneroad
  6. yah I don't have the bandwidth to stream HD - use the 'download' feature to download the route beforehand and this is solved. It is using your actual gearing. shift up out of Granny gear?
  7. I have been very happy with Rouvy - 1. Cheap! R120 a month for 3 riders / 5 devices. Myself and my wife have different accounts on the same subscription. Choose to pay in CZK for the best exchange rate. 2. Has both riding routes like Zwift (including riding with others) and workouts like Sufferfest. 3. You can ride any route in the world. The experience is better with video, and there are lots of routes with video to pick from, but basically you can ride anything you can draw on Google maps. If you're so inclined you can film your own local routes and put them on the app too. 4. You can design your own workouts. 5. The roads are quiet. Watopia is a bit overrun for my tastes. Be warned though there's no Zwift default setting to '50% of reality'. Rouvy climbs are hard work. My setup is a Kickr 1.0 an iPad and a TV. works perfectly.
  8. Well that wasn't exactly my point. South Africa (the country) clearly didn't do it, but that doesn't mean he isn't part of the family.
  9. That's like saying the springboks won the world cup on their own.. He did it without any direct help, but arguably you have to be a saffer to be Elon. The arrogance and pig-headedness that seems to make him successful is not going to be found in Switzerland or Norway for example. He is at least partly a recognisable product of our local environment. I guess I'm saying we can own that. Be proud though? I'm not always proud of the stuff he does.
  10. sorry - too early. i didn't read your post properly.
  11. https://www.rapide.co.za/product/rapide-104bcd-nw-forged-ultralight-rings/ - R400.
  12. I've ridden there - we went out through the Mt Everest National Park gates on mountainbikes, which I think is at about 5300masl. I'm surprised he was going so fast too - my first few days over 3000m I could hardly see the road over the handlebars from the headaches.
  13. 1. Is it time for a lacto-ovo vegeterianism thread? We can call it the L-OVe thread :-D 2. Many cheeses are made with animal rennets (especially imported cheeses in SA), which are definitely an animal product. Admittedly local cheeses do often use non-animal rennets - I assume you read your labels carefully. 3. Bacteria? Cheeses are made with living cultures which generally don't survive the production process either.
  14. Upside of the whole coronavirus thingymabob - clean vegans.
  15. what about eating healthy? I'm all for reducing meat, but Beyond etc. doesn't appeal to me at all. sorry Patch - fake meat doesn't motivate me.
  16. Before I get called for trolling I'm posting this because a) veganism/environmentalism is perhaps making our farmers change the way they do stuff, and b) the idea of dense grazing making cows eat more efficiently seems quite cool. https://edition.cnn.com/2020/03/06/africa/agriculture-regenerative-farming-climate-crisis-intl/index.html I do realise that the cows still die, so while this might work for the save-the-planet vegans, it doesn't work for save-the-cows.
  17. You could in theory also use this: https://www.takealot.com/sherlotronics-6-4a-battery-backup-power-supply/PLID61031389/description plugged in to the mains, and with the outputs connected to a set of 10W lights. 1 light - 20h 2 lights - 10h 3 lights - 6h 4 lights - 5h 5 lights - 4h You would probably not get all of that, but even at say 60% of that performance you might find that's a useful solution. You might find a better spec 18Ah battery if you're planning this as a long term solution.
  18. These guys are good: https://www.battery.co.za/products/solar-batteries/
  19. No, but wait till you hear about the massive erections.
  20. Not maybe on the rest of us to stop supporting them? not very vegan of you.
  21. It's always difficult to design an event for both pro's and amateurs, but both groups have to be taken into account. And much as I can appreciate the skill involved in the sprints putting people in hospital is always a bad idea. I had a good chat to our offender about not riding so that everyone else on the road has to take evasive action to prevent a crash. Maybe he'll be better next time.
  22. This is one aspect I would have changed - would have been a better finish if they had the mats out before that left turn. our little bunch with 3 tandems had one of the tandems on the inside line in that corner. No ability to hold his line - he went from inside line to outside line in a blink with the rest of the bunch scrambling to stay out of his way. Poor form that - sprinting off your line is illegal for a reason.
  23. I'll never be PC enough to comment on toplessness at an anti dairy demonstration, what is a shame however is that to my mind dairy is not all that offensive (methane emissions aside), and less offensive than e.g. almond milk which is having huge impacts on bees, and biodiversity in general. What is a woke protester to do..
  24. I've ridden a MTB over 5500m going past base camp. This is not uniformly true 3700m is enough to give you a proper headache if you're not acclimatised.
  25. personally I'm glad they didn't fell the trees
