  1. Where in SA are you? then we can point you in the right direction
  2. I have had a go at swapping out the RD cage on a clutch type deraileur, but I gave up when it started looking difficult (looked like I was going to struggle to get the clutch off). Maybe you can find some instructions. I have however swapped cages between other deraileurs on a number of occassions. I can't see the 11s/12s thing being an issue.
  3. Have a look on ebay for a new stem. shipping takes a few weeks, but I haven't had any ebay orders that haven't shown up eventually.
  4. City aims to ban vehicles from pavement? 😗
  5. cassette tool is R140 at cyclelab.com - click click..
  6. Stick on a piece of black strapping before you put them on? A 5m roll should last a few years 👌 Seriously though lycra should be easy to stitch together as it is so stretchy.
  7. You will definitely need a lockring tool or a lockring socket to get it off. You can work around the chain whip by standing your wheel on the pedal (with bike upside down), and then looping your chain up from the chainring and over the sprocket - will lock it out so that you can loosen the lockring.
  8. Unfortunately I'd guess that prices are set in the US in dollars - and we just get the converted value, plus shipping, margins, and taxes. Not a happy formula these days, but nothing to do with what ever is going on in the SA market - the squeeze is happening in the US. Even ebay is looking expensive, and that's before you get stuff over here. The exception is our second hand market (which probably reflects an outdated sense of what new bikes/components might cost). If you're looking for 'value' I would guess you might look at supply from China (but no local agents, yet), or just ride older or down spec'ced bikes. Big name bikes and groupsets are getting close to being out of reach.
  9. I've used MyUS before, shipping wheels and then a fork through them so these are reasonably sized items. You open a MyUS account and they give you a My US 'Box number' to ship to (in Florida I think). Once it is with them they will check it is properly packed and offer you 6 to 10 different shipping options with different prices. My experience was seamless - they pre-paid customs clearance and they were pretty good at giving a number of well-priced options. They are also useful for private purchases - i.e. off ebay or us classifieds when you may not have an invoice from a business for your purchase. The US domestic shipping leg to get it to them is usually pretty cheap or free. Only downside is that you will not know the international shipping cost until they have the parcel (which means you have already bought it). Good luck
  10. This is not an easy sale (ie your reseller may struggle) - a 47 is an XS frame. Not a lot of buyers in this market. Do you think the original seller is resentful?
  11. Personal story, I listed a bike for sale not so long ago for about R25k (6yo Spesh Diverge with 105's). The buyer was a big brand local bike store - they asked for a selfie of me with the bike, paid my asking price and sent a bakkie around to collect the same day. For sure they hoped to sell it for a few grand more, and I am sure they did. Happiness to them - I am sure it helps the sale to have it on the shop floor with a salesman pushing the sale, plus they should give some confidence that there is a business to provide some support if the ultimate buyer is not happy with his buy. Similarly for anyone who sees extra value in anything else on sale - good luck to them. If you can sell for more because of reputation, or better photos/description, or cleaning the item properly, or being in a better location, or just putting a higher price on it, then well done to you. You are capitalising on knowing more about the product than the seller, or just being in a better position to sell it. I can't see the problem. Edit - if you REALLY care about only selling to someone who is going to actually ride your bike then you should put that on the advert. Only allow collections in person, in an uber, and then they have to ride it home. Good luck with this sale :-o
  12. ☝️This exactly. You would need new levers, and then also a new rear deraileur to make it work.
  13. Hunt's guideline is a max tyre of 2.35 on a 25mm (internal) rim, so there's that. But the 2.4 tyres are just so comfortable.
  14. Willing buyer/willing seller.. but if you agreed a price and sold at that price, then whatever the buyer does with it after that is completely up to him or her. That is a good working definition of ownership I think. Personally it is quite difficult to buy and sell bikes for a profit. Bikes often have hidden defects that need to be fixed, and (almost) every sale gets talked down in price. Definitely you can't profitably buy and sell without some haggling - and after all that maybe you're a few hundred Rands better off. Rather celebrate that you made the sale, received payment, and that you were happy with the agreed price in that moment. If you are selling you are asking the buyer to trust you on so many little things - you're never going to be the 'victim'.
  15. That's what I run. I like the slightly chunkier Ardent up front for some extra grip.
  16. GCN, and sbs with a vpn for anything they are not showing
  17. For me, on gravel Stick with 2x drivetrains (lots of gears means you can fine tune your effort on flattish roads) Make sure it can take a 45mm wide tyre for SA roads 160mm disc brakes Aluminium wheels are preferred Road shoes are fine (or whatever you have now) Get a slightly flared bar in your normal width
  18. Looks like the SLX model comes with a bar clamp.. I may never go 12s if that is the design.
  19. Have a look at the satellite maps - there are a few obvious different route options in the bits where you are missing bumps on the profile.
  20. I have both front and rear in my toolbox. DM me
  21. I'm trying to see in the photo if it looks like he cares..🙄
  22. That last rule seems a bit silly - given it is clearly possible to surpass 25kph with a bit of assisted pedaling. You still pedal harder to go faster..
  23. you have to be disabled to ride an ebike now?..
  24. well TT bars are bad for your teeth when you're riding in a bunch. ebikes are just as safe as regular bikes.
  25. Yes. But only if they actually have fun doing it 😗 If you're not starting in the first batch with the funny symbols on the race numbers then you're riding a fun ride. I went past an oke riding with one leg on Sunday - didn't hear him complaining about the extra legs on all the other bikes either.
