  1. Bring your rain jacket, rain booties, checkers packet for your head, extra grease on your BB, headset bearings, throw on your 0.5mm used chain - this looks like a bath now ...
  2. Try this link - enable speed and drag slot to Sun 25
  3. Dont know if this is clear? Very odd SW blowing us out, and then nice little headwind home ... Some weather apps are saying rain ... varied tho
  4. you might find an analogue rider that can ride along with you too
  5. https://www.canyon.com/en-gb/gear/accessories/bike-tech/cockpit-and-handlebar-mounts/forward-am-i-canyon-3d-print-mount/9102036.html Interesting that Canyon are selling 3D printed computer mounts now too ... Someone has already published this on Thingiverse for anyone wanting to try it out/remix for their own purposes. I can vouch that this design is extremly strong (even in PLA).
  6. Entries arent even open yet (2-Feb), are you sure you've seen the actual result of the offer? 20% is nothing to scoff at. https://www.aroundthepot.co.za/enter In terms of precedent - i entered for the Ronde van Riebeck 50 miler last year which was quite delayed from starting. Not only did Adriaan pay for everyones cappuccinos that morning, but made good on 100% discount for this years entry (and i actually stayed to start late and finish that event too). I feel very bad for organisers - they have sunk costs, whether the event runs or not. Most of my experience of the events that are cancelled very rarely offer any refund or discounts for future dates, its really the risk we take when we enter. Also worth mentioning that RvR is an excellent event - its a cheaper 100miler gravel event to do, you dont need to sleep over or travel far to get gravel kicks. RTP is a great event, but feels its got a tad pricey FWIW.
  7. Set a PB for Botmas myself - D-batch were gunning it.
  8. A couple of thoughts: 1 - The seeding for the early-new year-events will always have the biggest mixup of those that should probably be in A or B batch and those that might not have trained to hard during and post XMAS. This mixup causes the "surge" differences that hurt the untrained. 2 - You dont have to start in the group provided, you can drop back as far as you like to a group with riders you might know or look like a bunch that are going to ride a relaxed race (nothing wrong with doing this, for those just wanting a good seeding for CTCT, just finishing Winelands will advantage your seeding.
  9. Yeah - Arno and the Kirmack crew definitely made D-Batch come alive after Malmesbury. Lekker to ride with you (and the other rider in the Pelegrino top).
  10. I rode in D-Batch too. Im the guy in black, on a black giant, with black socks, helmet etc etc and those who knew, noticed me on the front taking turns to do work, no complaining or advice giving etc i was there to have fun and work for a result. It amazed me how D-batch was full of peanut-gallery advisors critiquing literally everything going on from the center of the batch, sucking wheel.
  11. Ive got around 100hrs on my gravel bike with a similar print for my varia and honestly dont notice any signs of fatigue/de lamination etc @MongooseMan used PETG, i used PLA with 100% infill, so im probably more likely to test this design in terms of your concerns raised. Worth noting (IMO) that understanding how your slicing software works is as important or even more than the orientation of the print that you suggest.
  12. Thats my general experience of Europe tbh, not just NL, and they’ll charge you €5 with a smile. I always travel with my aeropress just for some sane coffee.
  13. Thingiverse garmin mounts? yes - all of them! 🤣
  14. Im currently using the Creality Ender 3 V2 Neo - my next printer is defs the Bamboo Labs A1 when its available locally - speed and quality is insane.
  15. Yeah - the whole "men must turn every app into a dating opportunity" situation is so cringe. Another reason i ride alone, amazing how stereotyped some riders can be when it comes to "must make a move through obvious uncomfortable advances" 🥵
  16. Looks like it will be around $23 landed - you might make sense of ordering just one 😝
  17. the Varia doesnt have a tether "hole", but im going to tether the mount itself which is a garmin oem part. i cant see the varia dislodging there, but the PLA might split near the bolts. ill do a couple of rides and remove and check for fractures. ive got some PETG on order, been difficult to source black filament for some reason.
  18. Ha - thanks! After years of flying under the radar on the propel, im now having to carry a radar ... 🫠
  19. There is another great piece floating on Cycling Weekly about "Why I ride alone" I think the surge scenario is one of the mentioned contributing factors ... 😝 Others include -> fixing other riders mechanical issues (Read poor serviced bike), extended coffee breaks, too much free (unsolicited) advise including "Your saddle looks to high, you should consider aero bottles, why arent you on 30mm tires, i hate Di2 etc etc" 🤣
  20. Got hooked by the varia deal Garmin were running over December, but surprised at the poor design on mounts it came with. before buying 3rd party, i thought id try a home job hack ... might need to tether the varia to my bike somehow in case the PLA breaks. 🤪 i printed with 100% infill and it feels mega solid .... lets see 🤔
  21. Agree with this - i actually prefer the detail on Garmin connect in terms of its data aggregation/reporting. (BTW - it does have Strava features like segments, social connections etc but hardly the core of why i (many) use it.)
  22. excellent comment and agree what i dont like is that i paid for a year worth of subs, and in this last year they've implemented all sorts of "opt-out" features that im not a fan of. I dont have a problem of disabling these features, but a strong point in the letter is exactly this "opt-out" nature of the product.
  23. https://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/a-break-up-letter-to-strava excellent and true
  24. This has and probably will remain the status quo for many folk this and next year: “ride what you have” The bike industry is in turmoil with supply and demand while it recoups from post covid demand-mania.
  25. i easily did 3hrs at 94.7 on @MongooseMan gravel bike, with 38c pathfinders. I still hold my best PR on that bike with those tires riding up to Constantia lookout from the bottom of Hout Bay. Your quest is a good one - easy decision AFAIK - just make sure you research which gravel bike - not sure i would recommend titanium or steel etc but some nice alloy and carbon variants with 1x will do the trick.
