  1. Quite impressed, logged my request last night, replacement parts already on the way. I’ve not owned anything but boa based lace up shoes for a decade, doubt I would change this unless the self strapping shoes Marty McFly wore in back to the future II ever came out 😁
  2. Im surprised this app is free, its really not bad (so far)
  3. Sounds like you need a gravel bike with two wheel sets. At 1.9m you probably need >60cm. At R20k you're going to get alloy/alu, but thats not always a bad thing.
  4. I cant see most 3D printers taking much more than 300w, so a basic UPS/Inverter should protect prints from abruptly stopping. The creality ender 3 V2 Neo also has a feature to resume prints when it powers back on which works pretty well.
  5. This weekend I decided to fetch a design from thingiverse for a simple iPad/Tablet mount for the indoor trainer. Even though the design came with its own dowels for snapping all the bits together, I ended up buying some M4x15mm screws from builders to get the build nice and stiff. A couple of post thoughts to this design: -I would remix the base cross brace into both arms for a single print, but the size of an average print bed (220x220) would be limiting -I would modify the top cross brace to include some side guides/supports for the tablet not to move around when I’m standing and “rocking” the bike -I would move the bottom of the tablet a couple of cm away, I tend to bump it when I’m switching hands to the cross bar -a second mount for my phone would be handy
  6. I’d recommend this design instead https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4788212 at least with strap ties there is some give in the event of a knock, screws are always going to win against plastic. (also this design is ready to go for print!)
  7. After some frustration with De Rosa trying to source mechanical shifting grommets for my bike, I decided to buy an entry level 3D printer to make my own. So gratifying to do this, and at the cost of EUR 80 they quoted to ship me a set, I’m glad to have rather channeled that some capital into this project. I ended up using tinkercad to model the design before slicing with my Ender software for a proto-print. I’ve got some ABS ordered so I can do a final, but for now happy to sit and stare at it 👌
  8. Sra-mano AX2=(campagnolo-thumb shifters)+proper hood groups+wireless shifting 🤣
  9. I can vouch for this comment. In “champagne” conditions this weekend, i explored the course and found it quite tough. There will be few flowing/rolling hills to make up time, expect some decent technical sections and thats before the return through town to do the climb to lords, then up galge, and then that beast to the mast. Expect wet shoes in the first 15km at the first river crossing, its got decent size boulders not for an easy ride through on “skinny” wheels, if you walk, your feet will not dry easily in the low temps that follow, so consider a strategy of even taken shoes and socks off (i know this sounds dramatic, but wet feet in freezing temps is terrible). If its a challenge you were after, this is as good as it gets!
  10. was this ever shared?
  11. I might have been on the skinniest tyres (38c) out of everyone riding on Saturday, still had a blast on my converted commuter bike 🚴 👏 im just glad my quick release axles survived some of that corrugation 😆
  12. Yes I understood this too, but then how did the 100miler get cleared to start?
  13. Can you elaborate? Sounds like you were in the 100 miler group, can you share what might have happened to cause the delay to the 50 miler start?
  14. I did the 50(54 😆) miler. The Route was really well thought out, albeit 87km in distance but provided .gpx was accurate. I can see this event becoming super popular for its proximity to Cape Town, i.e no need for sleepovers like around the pot. Prepping for the event, the thought about farm vehicles for planting season, Road corrugation etc had me second guessing actually riding, the 90min delay to the start almost sealed that decision, but what a ride it turned out to be, with fantastic weather too. i will be back!
  15. Yeah fair point, another concept not mentioned in the thread is actually how fun/gratifying a gravel bike can be, irrespective of speed/performance
  16. Pasting my segment times for the first 100km between 2018 and 2019 at around the pot, 45 min difference and 4kmh difference in average speed:
  17. Haven’t seen any commentary here on rider weight. Gravel bike enjoyment=blend of: tyre diameter, any cool tech for seat and hand resonance/vibration absorption, gearing, technical skill minus the riders shape/fitness. Controversial comment, but much above 90kgs @ 1.8m rider weight/height, i would not recommend a gravel bike for our ZA district roads. Ive personally carried a range of weight on around the pot from 83-95kgs and can tell you it’s night and day on the same bike.
  18. Im seeing a perfect line on the right there 🤠
  19. At least entrytime gave us number boards big enough to see our race numbers from space - and we get to sail our bikes home with the wind behind us 😆
  20. Mariske Strauss gave a good Acronym for this -> ARTTT (there was a retraction on the word Terrein, replaced with Turf 😂)
  21. Route for the 50miler --> https://www.strava.com/routes/3093485871712448584 Route for the 100miler --> https://www.strava.com/routes/3093486369123925700 Weather looking ok in the morning to do the 50miler.
  22. Starts at 8am, 100miler starts at 7am
  23. Feel like its important to circle back that Dragon have taken back the rebuilt wheel and replaced it with a completely brand new wheel. Completely happy with the outcome - really important to say thanks to Gert and Gavin from Giant Cape Town to sort this out for me.
  24. I find myself using BH pay a lot more than I used to. The formality of adding beneficiaries for payment, deciding which messaging platform to coordinate on and occasionally having to remind hubbers to post my goods, BH Pay just makes it easier to use all the automation, feels like a takealot experience at times.
