  1. FUN Gaalens!!! Back at my fav stomping ground after a a couple weeks.. convinced some locals who we met on the trail to try Double D, the newest trail Erik built about 2 months ago. flowy up and Gnarly down... the guys bought a few pieces of land .. but thoroughly enjoyed it. After the recent winter veld fires the trails stick out like veins on Pawel Poljanski's legs at the TDF. The descent of Pofadder, which is what Double D joins onto, is tricky and the trail is very rocky but super fun. You need your wits about you at the end, even more treats and you get to finish off with the insanely fun wave runner.
  2. As #ArcticAugust rolls into Gauteng... I'm taken back to my balmy beach escapades in Umdloti last week
  3. What's the data consumption like with Zwift? average consumption per hour?
  4. Was fortunate enough to give Holla a bash last week... Man!!! You guys down there are so lucky to have these trails... awesome stuff!!
  5. Just a beach road cruise here in Umdloti (or is it Emdloti.. I'm confused ) stunning start to the day Hoping to get round to Holla some time this week.. all depends on the master's schedule #ToddlersRuleTheRoost
  6. Been using my GoPro a lot so I haven't used my camera that can phone for a while to take pics.. but took this yesterday.. I'm quite chuffed with how it came out
  7. Hero @Hobby Park....It's been a while... Man these trails are good!!! When it's rocky, it's ROCKY!! (but fun rocky) and when there's flow... there's SO MUCH flow! Alex is doing a stellar job maintaining these trails! I HIGHLY recommend you guys who normally do the Avianto/Cradle etc to give the trails a bash.. it's SO worth the extra 15 min drive The obligatory ridge pic Stealing the phrase from PWC park Berm baby berm!!
  8. A bit late posting this... been a little preoccupied. My little guy was ill and was admitted to hospital to be put on a drip over the weekend ..Effing rotavirus Anyway he's home now before all this happened I was at Northern Farm taking a triathlete in training on a MTB ride to show her what fun cycling is all about Must tell the little story behind this next shot... 2 ladies were on the trails and I kept seeing them as they passed me when I'd stopped to take some pics, then I'd catch up and pass them and the same happened a couple times. The one said MTB Lady "What's up with you always stopping?" Me "taking photos" MTB Lady "Oooohhhhh.. I thought girls just did that" Me " No, those are called selfies" The Triathlete in Training had a couple spills but nothing serious, mostly from going too slow then not uncleating quick enough... as in this instance fortunately she landed on a bed of soft grass The ride concluded with her saying it's the most fun she's had a bike (but will still carry on tri'ing ) and it's not the same as her usual rides that are rather serious.. minimal chatter, minimal laughter..if any. Glad I'm not of the sleeveless unsociable species I've seen in the cradle
  9. you flippen WC okes and your flippen mountains, ocean and beaches... .. keep the pics coming #dismaarnmooiplek
  10. We must get around to that "get together" that's been on the cards since forever. Maybe plan a group ride for a couple people that'd like a show around.
  11. Pofadder at VG is renowned for being a hard, tough and a rather technical route. It's often used as part of Epic training routes. It was Erik's birthday this week and when I rang him to wish him the happy happy, all he could talk about was the new Pofadder he's spent the last 3 weeks making and is super excited about. WOW! WOW! WOWWWWW!!!! It's awesome! The elevator up is what he's beautifully made and is an amazing ride, the technical descent has been tidied up but still very tricky yet awesome fun! I HIGHLY recommend this route when you head out to VG a bit of a late start after a mate had a mechanical as we started, but we still managed most of the sunrise This is taken not long after the start, looking down onto the singletrack that snakes up the start or on to Tant Miems/Daggapad etc This isn't even the top of the climb and already the views are amazing. To the right you can see Haarties Some of the awesome new signage up, sponsored by Fury Ford, Fourways.
  12. hear hear
  13. Northern Farm on this (unexpectedly) wet morning... with not much climbing, ideal place to go this week week after being knocked for six by a cough last week. Great fun. Trails are in great condition.. a little too "noodle" like for my liking but awesome nonetheless I even managed a little airtime
  14. Sjoe Brandon.... so much of nice! Stunning pics again.. especially this one!!
  15. Thanks Pikey I'd love to take the credit for that second last one, but that's a friend's. It's really cool!
  16. **Photo overload** What was supposed to be a quick spin at Avianto with mates, turned into a little adventure and about 4 hours out on the bike. Western Avianto and the Cradle ...awesome ride. Gald to see the Cradle MTB trails are being maintained again.. a couple of new bridges (well, new to me) and clean. Avianto have swapped direction of the trails.. and Reverse Phambili, not unlike Reverse Cowgirl, leaves one rather p0mp€d... and it's good fun!
  17. awesome pics! must be an amazing to be able to ride with your little ones... I can't wait to do the same with my little guy
  18. it is indeed.. sharp eye you have there
  19. Could've been A LOT worse... "only" about 200m's worth
  20. Had a pic taking field day on Saturday at FUN Gaalen.. so thought I'd share a little more.. Rolling out at the start This, a section known as Gully that leads onto the Waverunner, I'm being chased by someone with a skill level wayyyyyy above mine.. result = HR maxing .. and then some More chasing through a section of the famous River trail was was set alight by arsonists on Thursday, but fortunately it was stopped, not before a fair bit of the reed tunnels were completely destroyed though
  21. Back to FUN Gaalen...... After ages of "I must a plan to join there sometime" comments.. a friend did... and another... and another... and another..... times 8... a solid group of 9 riders started 8 finished.. for one it was a bit much and he pulled the plug halfway. super fun route, super fun morning out... As usual... first to arrive For VG the morning was rather "balmy" compared to what it's usual Winter self is like. #Skills #Wheeliesfordays
  22. Not today ... but a flashback to weekend before last at Mankele's Avalanche.. I thought'd I'd mistakenly deleted my pics.. I just mistakenly never looked properly This just after the start of the most lung busting 14mins I've ever spent on a bike
  23. After 2 months of back to back trail shredding ( I like to think what I do is shredding ) I decided to take a spin through the Cradle I didn't see a single person till at least 40mins into my ride. riders through the mist Couldn't resist the urge to get my groad on
  24. Trekked east this weekend and went to Mankele for their Avalanche event. Didn't get too many photo taking opportunities because a) there's no time (I never thought 4.6km in 14 minutes could take so much out of me, arms and legs smashed and HR bursting off my scree.... BUT WHAT FUN!!!) b) had to cut the event short to head home so only did 1/3 of the runs So, here from Saturday's first stage... a rear facing, saddle mounted GoPro shot of the trail, the view and my shadow cast from the sun ahead of me. and a chilled afternoon pedal around the Sudwala lodge resort on Friday
