  1. 'Why so light, you might ask, especially since the UCI continue to enforce a minimum complete bike weight limit of 6.8kg (15lb). For amateur riders unconstrained by the governing body's regulations there are clear benefits, but there are advantages for WorldTour racers too. "It affords the [team] riders the ability to run SRMs [powermeters] all the time," Chris Peck, Cannondale’s vice president of R&D, told BikeRadar. "They also like to use alloy handlebars." 2. LBS reckons it must be a bad batch of hubs or something as this is the 3rd one with the same failure recently. I haven't kept track of service record, but original clean grease is still in bearings. i.e. as good (bad) as it was when it came out the box. They are waiting for Shimano agent to swing past and get warranty replacement.
  3. Let us know what you think. I got my back from them yesterday and am always impressed with their workmanship.

Sponsored by PPC Best one yet!
  5. The Anthem X 29 frames aren't available on thier own in SA. A mate of mine tried to get one this week and Dragon Sports doesn't do that. So, Tallboy or Niner are your other 29'er frame only options. OR Talk very nicely to your LBS about stripping a frame for you, then they can sell the build kit or something.
  6. From Nic Lamond Early birthday present from @LIFESTRUCK. New bike decals for the rest of #JoBerg2C #HTFU http://t.co/dWY8RRx Love it!
  9. They make great Weight Weenie Project Bikes! Boasting rights @ the coffee stop etc. I suppose it also gives the guys limited by UCI rules scope to use power meters etc and 'normal' parts and still be on edge. I assume Liquigas will be riding these @ the Giro. The price must be eye watering!
  10. There shouldn't be any difference. You are just on bigger wheels. Theoretically...
  11. I dont think there are very many options on 36 hole hubs or rims
  12. Stem length should be a function of your geometry and setup. I dont think you should have a short stem just because its a 29'er. Wider bars are supposedly make it easier to turn the big wheels. I also noticed that the testers felt that the bikes should have 180mm front rotors.

    Momsen 29er

I think Olympic were assigned a few. The frames and forks were a limited run, so not too many hanging around.
  15. It seems that there aren't enough 29'er bikes available to buy, let alone test... Edit: a mate just told me that Willie Engelbrecht's got 4-5 29ers (Anthem, Scale, Bulls, Spez) which he's happy for people to trial Some suppliers here got caught with their pants down or didn't expect such a huge demand (haven't been reading up on The Hub). Its irritating as their marketing is in full swing, but there are no bikes!
  16. I agree with the good service and workmanship from JOC and Crown Cycles. BMC is just easier for me to get to.

  19. If you get the custom built wheels with Hope hubs, dont forget to get skewers.
  20. I cant help with why spokes are breaking, but if it happens on a regular basis like this, its time for new spokes and a rebuild.
  21. Are Conti UST X Kings available yet?
  22. I asked a similar question here a while ago. Monorail/Cross mark combo? Mountain/Race King combo? The rain had better stop!
  23. Does anyone know what the ZTR Crest or Arch wheelset costs ? i.e. Wheelset made by notubes with ZTR hubs and rims etc. Edit: Found a price: about R4500.00 @ Buycycle
  24. I reckon that they will be closer to 1700g (less if you use alu nipples instead of brass). I think the stock Giant wheels are close to 2.0kg. (see here) The ZTR Crest wheelset has a weight limit of 190lb according to the notubes website. If I was to build wheels, I would use ZTR Arch rims for strength and reliability because I weigh 100kg. Those would come out @ about 1900g, so I wouldn't save much weight. Oh, and all the nicest wheel components are worth nothing if you dont get a decent wheel builder to lace them up for you.
