  1. I have a mate who is looking for a group ride on Thursday, his last day in Cape Town. He can't make your Wednesday group Hairy. Please PM me details or numbers to contact. Thx
  2. Swop you a metric shifting spanner?
  3. +1 Just get the wheel rebuilt by a clever dude...I did and have not seen an issue again
  4. I got mine right first time Use a very runny sealant though, not the snot-deluxe stuff
  5. Commuters don't hunch over and pound the pedals the way we do, as they are not training. If we ride like commuters we will be sitting more upright, riding slower and generally be more aware of our surrounding and less aware of our training goals...

    Bike Lights

I have a LED Lenzer M7 torch with bike mount, about R500. It is 225 lumens, and I have no issue when riding on the road without street lights. It is plenty powerful as you can focus the beam. The directionality might not make it a good option for mountain biking.
  7. Not a cross...the stripes are too accentuated. Liger stripes are very faint. The Americans started crossing tigers and lions. Don't know why, but then, that is normal for all american actions
  8. So...trucks causing fatalities have increased pretty badly... Causes.....Speed is a no-brainer. Our road conditions are too changeable to travel fast safely. The shocker is jaywalking...did not expect that to feature so high so let me put this out there. When you cycle out of place, skip stop and red lights or hog a lane you are essentially jaywalking, or jayriding
  9. Even if they don't, it is what I prepare for when I ride. I see a car at a stop, I assume that he is going to drive in front of me...if he doesn't I thank the driver. When I hear a car approach, even though I am in the yellow, I move as far left as I can. I have had some close shaves, but because I was prepared disaster was averted. I ride cheap training rims on my roadie, so I have no issues going off-road when I need to......have not had to yet

    1.5 m rule

What it means is that if you are hit the driver has automatically broken a law....it does not make it safer, but it allows drivers to be prosecuted. In Burry's case the taxi driver will have a harder time defending the culpable homicide case against him.
  11. Apparently RSG reported another death in East London Heard it via my mom. Edit: just saw a tweet on it as well....
  12. Rode this morning, with a black armband. Realized I was quite a bit more aware of what cars are doing around me.
  13. Especially where you are.....don't forget hippo's and crocs migrating, and the odd lion meandering out of the Kruger
  14. I ride with very loose cleats, as a result I get my feet out quickly. i also uncleat before a technical section and just pedal with my foot loose until I pass the section. I unfortunately cannot help with the slippery shoes....except, walk like you are walking on eggs I am going to try stick some rubber on my shoes to see if it helps, or lasts. I fell my arse off on wet tiles after a rainy ride on new years....still have a sore wrist
  15. You are so right When I started cycling the group gave you some very nasty stick if you ventured over the yellow line. I still hate cycling next to someone, even if it is in the yellow line as it limits my bail options.
  16. Perhaps those amongst us that are responsible should get a petition out to the authorities encouraging them to nail cyclists that ignore traffic rules. This morning on my ride there was a dude with a Prado on a stretch of road in town with no shoulder. I only realized about 50m down the road that he was traveling at 25 km/h behind me, and as I looked for a place to let him pass he got a gap and safely passed me. Only then did I realize that he had a trailer for two jetski's which was about 1m wider than his car......THANKS MATE!!!!
  17. Easy solution for the N2.....call the toll free number and report their asses. I have no issue with a few cyclists getting fined, I have an issue when they come home in the news
  18. From Specialized Director of Sports Marketing, David Hyam: Dear All, It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to our friend and cycling legend Burry, who was tragically snatched away in the prime of his life while training in his home town of Kwazulu-Natal this afternoon. We have lost not only a friend, colleague and team-mate, but a true sportsman. He will long be remembered for his humility, his prowess and the gentle manner in which he conducted his life! Our heartfelt sympathies, thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Cherise, his parents, family and all who were privileged to know this gentle giant. Life is short, life is sweet but his legend will live on forever… Sincere condolences to all. David Hyam and the Specialized S-Racing Team
  19. Helped a friend on his dad's farm to stack some empty bags. His dad farmed all kind of condiments, ginger, garlic....and of course, chilli peppers. Made the same mistake, peed after wards, but I also rubbed my eyes and scratched my nose. I was incredibly uncomfortable for few hours. We did spend the arvo in the pool, which helped wash away some of the pain
  20. I did manage to get 50 ml of slime in my road tubes, but it is a bit of a mission. The problem is that at 8 bar the slime does not seal too well. I found all the slime between the tube and tire after a puncture If you ride at lower pessure it will be effective. I am rather rotundous, so at lower pressure snakebites are very possible.
  21. Do a Youtube search for Ghetto Tubeless......did it on my bike and it has lasted 3 months now. Tip, get a thin sealant, not a snot deluxe one as you need it to flow into the crevice where tire meets tube.... I bought 2x 20" tubes at Game for R80 and the sealant was another R50 for 100ml at LBS. i have to top up air every two or so weeks, but I suspect that will be because the tire is not tubeless. Another tip, any tire will work, but dude at LBS told me that a folding tire seals better, but not as good as a proper tubeless tire. I just don't see myself forking out R350 plus for a tubeless tire when I can get the same result with something cheaper. Note....tubeless tires have thicker sidewalls so if you are planning to do the rough stuff then they are better, but for normal XC and district road type rides you should be OK. On every ride I pull about 5-10 thorns out of my tires, so it works fine.
  22. Lay off dude.... The guy just found out he inadvertently performed an act on himself in public when he bought his branded bike...he is traumatized
  23. Vredestein, Ricorso, Serfas Seca....had them both and have had less than five punctures on both sets...had to replace them due to wear though. And they come at around R150 - R180 per tire. Your aim is basic riding and training, so the few extra grams is not a mission either. Don't overspend!! Learn to change an inner tube, or cycle with a buddy that knows how to do it @javadude....I read a study done with 23c, 25c and 28c tires. They found the wider tires actually had less rolling resistance, but the comfort factor from riding at lower pressure was by far the biggest gain. I read it about 4 years ago, so don't ask me where to find it They ride the wider tires on the Paris-Roubaix and other cobble races. You can fit up to a 28c on a standard rim
  24. It does not seem like the OP is moaning about the replacement of the fork if you note the "thanks" in the post. He is looking for some reassurance that his face won't be erased by tar again. I would also rather put my trust in factory figures than the opinion of brand groupies. That said, I am seeing a Cannondale super six in my future.....I like it plenty!
