  4. Riding my gravel bike this morning fitted with 700x43 and hitting some corrugations I was thinking that perhaps I should have gone 650b . Hitting a smooth section a few km’s on I was smiling . For commuting 700 . For rough roads 650 . My 2 cents
  5. Elephants roamed in that area many many moons ago. That neck was on their route. If you blow hard enough on one of those stems it replicates the noise of an elephant trumpetting. But you must have good lungs . Like you.
  6. I started cycling in 1987 and my first bicycle was a used Peugeot Classique in black as above. The Classique was the top model and lower model I think was Mirage.
  7. Wat is die adres?
  8. Those are Eland but true . Lots of kudu .
  9. White Lightning Dry
  10. Meiringspoort is open . What happens is when there are heavy downpours South of Beaufort West the runoff water goes towards Meringspoort and the Poort fills up . The road gets covered in mud and debris and usually the Poort is closed for hours not days . A friend who was the senior partner at Aurecon who did the last rebuild of the road through the Poort explained to me the corners were designed to take heavy loads of water and remain intact . Since that rebuild the Poort has seen may huge floods and the road stays intact and without damage , save for the debris but gets cleared quickly .
  11. Anyone in that group with a DHC . Need photos of the decals pse .
  12. I will watch your progress
  13. Don’t be too hard on yourself . People not living here has no idea of the heat . And I have done those roads between Riversdale and Swellendam ...they are hard enough on an unloaded bike . Enjoy the rest .
  14. Sat hello when passing through Prince Albert
  15. Anyone with a DHC that can post pictures of the decals on the frame ? Required for a restoration . Thanks Arno zero385939038
  16. My first gravel bike was steel frame , from the first prototypes by Victor Momsen. Unpainted steel. It was very comfortable. Then the itch came and I imported a Lynskey GR 270 ti frame with the Lynskey Carbon fork. Yes there is in my view a very small difference in comfort and in the responsiveness of the ti frame. The biggest difference is in the price though . Is it worth the difference in price ? I am not convinced . But it is a nice bike to own.
  17. Solo ride from Prince Albert to Merweville . Passed by a single vehicle between N1 and Merweville . Can recommend the new coffee shop in Merweville . Die Boekklub . Wife met me for breakfast . Isuzu took me home,

  22. In April 2019 I was fortunate enough to participate in the amateur Tour de Flanders. 16000 riders participated in the 4 distances of 229 and 174 and 139 and 74 km respectively . You determine your own starting time in a window of 2 hours , all riders for all distances rolling over the same start line and sharing the same ( narrow) route for quite a distance . I was amazed at how well it worked . But then , there were very few hardcore South African cyclists riding ( and shouting “ keep left “ ) . I won’t forget the discipline and mutual respect I witnessed that day .
  23. Kevin has his tracker back and Hansie has 22km to go.
  24. Phillip scratched it seems
