  1. On the road bike I calibrate by using the road chainage posts on a national road (Blue sign white writing every 200 metre) once I have set the diamenter to closest (2068 on 622 x 22) The posts are usually accurate to 1 metre but measure horizontal distance not slope distance so use a flat road. Use a 10 or 20 km piece of road.
  2. And the Samie? was it edible?
  3. Selle SLR XP or the best is a rolls.
  4. Set your saddle a bit scew, with the front of the saddle pointing away from the short leg. This gives your short leg room to stretch and pushes the long leg back a bit. Former SA Road champ Martin Thomas used an scew saddle with great effect.
  5. I had 24 trouble free oders from them. Very efficient. use parcel force postage.
  6. Beers before a race is Ok but in about '70 I looked after our guys (Northern Wheelers CC) in SA Road champs at Potch. Derek Coetzee who had about 3 years fairly successful racing in France was dropped from the bunch at about 100km, I went back to see what he needed before leaving him to stay with our guys left in the bunch. It turned out that what he needed was 2 beers. 5km from the finish Derek was suddenly back in the bunch and finished SA Champs a credible 6th place. After the finish I discovered that he had been fed more beers by others after I had left him. We caculated that Derek had performed his remarkable comeback with 6 beers inside.
  7. Hey Hardus has the Annika job gone sour? I need a training partner from the 14th @ tedibear anything down your way for him?
  8. I fold it up small, wheels, discs, saddle, cranks, forks, and derailler come off, all tied eogether with a zillion cable ties and a bit of foam, with a rope handle. It ends up looking a bit like a folded wheel chair
  9. I have never delared mine as the customns fellas are never about when I fly (around midnight) But each time there has been no problem walking back through customns with it. You can carry personal sports equipment back.
  10. More interesting stuff, The power required to overcome wind resistance is proportional to the Cube of the windspeed. So to double the speed requires 8 times the power. Consider a 55kw Golf, it can almost do 160km/hr but for 320km/he you need a 450kw Ferrari.) What that means on a bike is that to go from 40 to 44km/hr requires 33% more power While to go from 40km/hr to 48km/hr needs 73% more power, (unless you can slip someone)
  11. Your not wrong there. Half the guys on site here are English or Scottish. I understand the guys from Ghana far better than the British, and I am English by Birth. We have two scottish fellas, one from Edinbrugh the other from Glasgow here, two towns 60km apart - you would think they are from different planets, not neighbouring towns. The conversations on the radio keep me entertained all day.
  12. I have had over 20 parcels from CRC, a without problem. (The biggest problem was a missing skewyer - replaced immediateley without question or charge) The last three arrived over the course of this week, all within 7 days of their dispatch. The dispatch was within one day of placing the order. I use Parcelforce not DHL. The free shipping only applies to Parcelforce.
  13. Find a bike that does 500-700km a week. Those are the bikes that really fly.
  14. If you are racing then essential equipment is a well maintained bike, water and food for the race, and thats all. If you puncture and you don't have a back up vechile with a wheel your race is over anyway. If you are not racing, then by all means take a spare, pump , tool kit and picnic hamper.
  15. Thanks , it does. will get the Reba, but with a 180mm disc.
  16. Been looking there all day, why are all the decent forks post mount, all the decent brakes IS mount and the adapters are for IS forks to Post mount calipers !
  17. Again I see it has a post mount on the brakes. Looks like I will have to get an adapter as I cannot find forks with IS mount
  18. I am looking to get a new MTB for home as I intend to bring my current one with me to the DRC after my next R&R rotation. The equipment selection process was fairly easy until I got to the forks. As my road bike has a Kinesis frame and i have enjoyed it I thought to go for the Kiness Maxlight KM810 frame. The brakes I fancy are Avid Code which are IS mount, and I prefer the 9mm Quick release on my wheels. a Bonus for the forks would be white finish but that I can sort out with a bit of spray paint if needed. So a 26" fork with 100mm or 120mm travel IS Mount pref dual air, for 9mm Quick release, with lockout . Which one?
  19. Why then are there so many different churches?, with the Seventh Day adventists doing it on Saturdays, the Pope and his Clergy doing it alone, The Mormons doing it more times than Zuma, and the Jehova Witnesses believing in the power of the printing presses to name just a few of the multitude of churches, all who have different interperations of the same bible, and all claiming to have the only "truth" Surely if it was not open to interperation there would only be one way of believing, and only one Church?

  21. How about if I send you an anona mouse card just to complicate your life a bit?
  22. CRC service Southern Africa very well as it is. Their centrallised 3.2 billion Euro annual turnover is probably what drives that success. It might not work with a turnover of only a few hundred million rand.
  23. It's also about service, whether its the importer or LBS or both it sucks. I Don't expect my LBS to carry everything, but if I ask them to get I expect it in a week. I bought my daughter a bike via e-mail from one of the bigger Durban shops & specified M647 pedals. They did not have , fair enough, but six weeks later they were still claiming Cool Heat have not yet supplied. I got my money back and CRC supplied them at 40% of the price in 5 days.
  24. From The First link: We are not fighting online sales. Despite that it is rapidly growing, we are aware of the fact that it also provides additional business to many retailers. We want to fight the price erosion inflicted by the large internet stores that have global distribution,” says Christian Tidow, initiator of the campaign and owner of Promobicis located near the Spanish city Alicante. In other words they don't want us to have low prices.
  25. We had the Idiot doing 180km/hr and posting it on U tube, In the UK cyclists are recording bad driving with their helmet cams http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12334486
