  1. 100% agree that MTBs beats gravel bikes hands down on comfort but I opted for the gravel bike to avoid being asked by the sweep vehicle if I am okay or I would prefer a lift to the finish line because I am the number 1 from the back.
  2. Just bought this bike yesterday for the up coming Cullinan2Tonteldoos ultra race. Love the aggression but I broke the seatpost clamp as I was adjusting the seat height - I think it is a 4nm and I had to replace it with my spare 8nm clamp. Other than that I am happy with the bike, I expect to gain 4-5km/h when comparing it to my MTBs.
  3. Stage 1 and 2 were ok for me...stage 3 was brutal, I wish there was a spinning wheel at the top like on Alpe Du Zwift to open some bikes or wheels etc. I've done it partly on a TrainerRoad workout for an hour then I finished the rest of the climb on Zwift resistance with 50% difficulty setting.
  4. I also decided to try this GTA, you need to be a bit of a techy to get it up and running but there is a lot of assistance from users on their facebook page. The 90Gb is not bad since this is a once off thing as compared to Zwift's monthly subscriptions. I also think majority of people are on smart trainers lately which makes it a viable option for someone who wants to ride around and get virtually distracted from the pain of IDT. I was also super impressed with their routes and the steering option using a joy stick or keyboard. Downside for me is the vulgar language used when I have kids around. I don't think it is ready for the masses though and I am not about to get off Zwift anytime soon for GTA.
  5. Last night I successfully downloaded the 40km CTCT and a 3km 94.7. I will try Gordon's Bay and Tour Durban today.I need to ride all those routes now during level 4 lockdown.
  6. I tried to ride a Rouvy route with a video, I tried Shova, 947 and and CTCT and none was able to download. My internet download speed is about 100mbps. International routes are fine. Is there anyone who has been able to ride a local route with a video?
  7. Nate mentioned yesterday that the tablet version is still far off. It would have been better if it allows for different workouts in a group instead of having to do the same workout. Will be testing it out this afternoon.
  8. My road bike 4iiii PM lasted for about a year and a half working perfectly before it started to give me higher readings. I was averaging 300W during Amashova race last year and I thought my training was paying dividend , yet I wasn't getting ahead of the bunch. I later realized that it was over reading. But I must credit the 4iii local agents for swopping it for me. I have been on a new one now for 3 months and I am still happy thus far.
  9. So they didn't they check his temperature at the aiport?
  10. Are international Cyclists coming to do the CTCT tested for Corona Virus at the airports?
  11. He must be prepared indeed because those guys are flying like its a VA group in a race. I joined them once when I was off duty for a day and never again.
  12. Blocked nose in the evening and a tight chest with some sneezing. Generally the body feels ok with no aches, so i take it I can race tomorrow.
  13. Zwift has the same feature but you get to see this in game, very cool feature.
  14. Only reason I kept TrainingPeaks was for the IF and Pw:Hr but now I can safely move over to intervals.icu.
  15. My Target was 2:59:59...got 3:01, can someone please recommend a coach who can help me shave off the 60 seconds next year?

    2019 Amashova

On Sunday 13/10/2019 I decided to do a recovery ride after Satellite, as I was riding, I was sweating a lot and felt uneasy. I thought it was just fatigue from racing the previous day. Got home after 1h30, took a shower and I was flat in bed. Fatigue, overheating, blocked nose, post nasal just got worse and worse as the week progressed. Went to see the Dr on Thursday and he said allergic Rhinitis...antibiotics for 5 days, no exercise. All plans for Durban were ready between me and my friend and I couldn't pull out. I decided not take the antibiotics until after the race. On race day I was sweating profusely even before we could start. I told myself I will observe my heartrate and listen to my body and if its bad I will pull out. Decided to drop from AL to BL. Fox Hill people started to hammer and I decided to ride on my FTP. Around 70 km my 2 bottles were empty, first time in 3 years I finish 2 bottled within 2 hours, normally they last for 3+ hours. Kept riding until Volvo WP, I then slowed down to almost standing still and took a 300ml bottle from the WP table then proceeded. Around 90 km I felt that a sub-3 was achievable. I was in a mix group with some AL, BL and CLs..the guys in front were really pushing hard on the highway Just as we entered the City I checked my Garmin it was as if time was accelerating coz I was now on 2:57 with about 3km to go. I thought if I can go to the front and push harder I can make Sub-3, needless to say it didn't work out...got to the finish in 3:02. Will try again for a sub-3 next year.
  17. AL dropped me at 40km, had to push alone for sometime until BL came flying pass me. Overall the race was good but there was a stretch after being dropped where we were sharing the road with cars going on both directions.
  18. Ordered them on Friday night and went to pick them at the take-a-lot pick up point on Saturday. Not too impressed I must say. I cant even figure out how to switch the noise cancellation on/off when connected via BT.
  19. I bought my Tacx Neo online 3 months ago and I was a bit worried about the after sales service...now this gives me some assurance that there will be support in case something goes wrong.
  20. I am using Zwift and recently joined Trainerroad as well. In all honesty when I look at the value for money between the two I think Zwift is still better because of the virtuals, training programs, races and you can also build your own workouts. I tried Virtugo but its just nowhere near Zwift. I am willing to take the R32.00 Vat increase with a pinch of salt. At some stage I think I will drop Trainerroad and use Zwift to build my own structured workouts on Zwift.
  21. First time doing The Jock and what a race! what I didn't appreciate though was to see those E-bikes passing us when we were suffering on the Long Tom pass. The good thing that was heart warming was to see the Sabie Primary School kids in their uniform marshaling us towards their school. Still undecided if I will do this race again.
  22. Interval ICU estimate FTP is 1W higher than the Ramp test
  23. Doing a Ramp test tonight, will see how far apart is the estimate from the actual.
