  1. I think I read some people saying it is not safe to ride solo in that area, so you've always been safe there?
  2. This is not good progress for him as well as SA cycling as a whole. We lost Team Qhubeka, now another SA cyclist is moving from Pro level to Amateur.
  3. I see Willie on instagram he has been riding around in South Africa, is he still with the Pro team Bogus in Europe?
  4. Intimittent fasting did the trick for me. I lost weight with drinking coffee at 8am, breakfast 10am then lunch was usually a yogurt with mixed trails then supper before 6pm. Did all my workouts in the evening after supper when I was full. Then covid came when I was flying high, started working from home and my fridge became my best friend, then the weight returned with a lot more of its friends/kgs. This year I want to start again.
  5. Intervals.icu is telling me that I am on the red zone at -43, but I still have 150km to finish Rapha500. This is when one has to just HTFU.
  6. For experiment purposes I am thinking of taking my brother's son and get him a Trainerroad subscription and get a coach for his cousin...they are both 15 year olds and almost similar body size. Put this to test for 12months and see the difference in gains. Personally I don't think there will be much difference and even if one performs better than the other there will always be reasons as to why the one or TR or with the coach didn't see gains more than the other one. But I will do it anyway just for fun if they are willing to take the challenge (12months 20k vs 2k challenge).
  7. There is also this new Adaptive Training by Trainerroad a game changer in so far as online coaching is concern, it uses AI and it's far better than generic plans because it adapts your plan as you do the workouts, almost similar to what garmin 1030plus do with their daily suggested workouts. So basically there are many ways to kill a Cat... coaching is but 1 at a premium price then others follow.
  8. Indeed the coach could help but trainerroad or Zwift could do that a a fraction of a cost hence I am for those who say a newbie doesn't need a coach it is for high end athletes in my opinion. Children should be children from birth until 15..from 16 as a parent I think if you see potential in your kid it is the right time to consider coaching and specialization.
  9. You are a perfect candidate for a coach so that you can start winning better paying races like Argus or 947...I am always coming 150ish out of 200 riders in DL, therefore there is no coach in this world would do any miracle to get me in the top 10 of the vets, so to those like myself there is no point in wasting money on coaches unless you doing it for economic empowerment of our fellow coaches and boosting their business not to die and be in a position to assist those who really need coaching.
  10. I would only consider a coach if I was a 16 y/o with an aim of turning Pro or if I feel I have a potential to win the Vet races because at least there is some compensation there. As an ordinary man who has a 7am-10pm job I see no need for anyone on the same boat as myself to get a coach...get Zwift or Trainerroad adaptation plans are very good and much better now and less taxing on the body than previously. For now anyone with a target of a 3-4w/kg can achieve that with Zwift, TR and group rides.
  11. Plan is to start with the 9 loops at Klapperkop on the 26th then follow that up with 100 -150km daily MTB rides. Last year I did the same and my FTP shot up nicely for the Cullinan to Tonteldoos MTB Ultra in April.
  12. I've done bike setup for all 5 of my bicycles but I do turn to have a numb right hand and what seem to help is weight lifting and also do some total body exercises like pushups and so on. So a bike set up might not be a magic pill to some of the problems.
  13. I have somehow developed a 6th sense for scammers...when they give me a call and I mention money cleared to avoid scammers, they drop that call and block me immediately.
  14. Now this is an unusual end to the story, it reminds me of the olden Chinese movies we used to watch at school on a bi-skop, just when the starring was about to attack the enemy's base then the they'll tell us that the tape has snapped and its game over. I hope all is fine with the author off the thread, just an aprupt ending though.
  15. This is with consistent training of 5 days a week. I do have asthma though, not sure if it has an effect on my Vo2max reading.
  16. While on this VO2max topic, I train 3 weeks hard and 1 week recovery (zone 1-2 rides). My VO2max on the Garmin edge always drops by 3-6 on the recovery week...is this only happening to myself or it's normal?
  17. I am camping here waiting for part 4...
  18. Every Hubber has some horror stories about LBS. I went to Solomons Cycles about 2 weeks ago to buy some few items, on my way out I had a quick chat with one of the staff members regarding the type of tyres I will need for my bike. The shop manager realized that I had already bought my items so she decided to call the guy to assist another customer in the shop, this was while the staff member was still talking to me inside their shop. I was really appalled by this behavior especially since she was not busy with any customer herself she could have easily attended to that customer. So I am sure that there will always be bad service from every shop.

    Jock 2020

Sent several email and no response. I am going ahead anyway, they will have to remove me from the race because I will ride with my proof of 2020 payment and emails I've sent as my race number.
  20. My hands have a tendency of cramping with no apparent reason, which then becomes worse when I am riding a bike which is dialed in professionally. I try and change the hands position often during my rides to reduce numbness. That might be the option if all else has been tried.
  21. My first 4iiii packed up after a year and half, the supplier gave me a new one, been running now for close to 2 years now with no issues.
  22. Is there an online streaming for the SA Champs?
