  1. I'm with Mampara on this. When your struggling with a marathon, then you don't want it to be all technical as distance and endurance is your challenge. For shorter races I want them as technical as possible. If I want to beat guys with my speed skills, I'll do a road race.
  2. R8000 would be on the border of racing hard tail and hard tail. Maybe second hand?
  3. They recommend replacing your running shoes every 800-1200km. I wonder how long these last.
  4. Go to chit chat and see the thread going well on it's way
  5. Sucks big time bro. From where are you?
  6. Thanks Chris. Will take not of that. I see now that it was about R2300.
  7. Think it was R2500 shipping and vat inc. Would like to try it on the hills. Rode most of today with the 42T. Shifting is really quick and effortless/crisp. I'm still using a normal deore topswing derailleur. I've just adjusted the limit screws and I'm using gear 1 and 2 on the gearshift. Setting up was really easy. I did it yesterday and didn't even take a testdrive before babbas. 8. Thanks crackajack. I've trained myself a bit. I've never used the granny the last two months, but riding a double isn't that hard.
  9. It's a 29-42T upfront and I got a 11-34 at the rear. For normal riding I can use 11-32 at the rear, but for races with lots of hills I'll rather use the 11-34. I did 1h19. Took it easy at the start as I was still "gewyn" from last night. Weight is cranks,bb,spacers and 3 other thinner spacers I'm not using. So it's for the complete crankset and it's weighed on electronic kithen scale. Claimed weight is 715 +-10g
  10. Got my 2x9 setup and first testrun at babbas went well this morning. Don't know why they ever went 3 gears in front. Oh yeah, weight is 708g.
  11. Yes you would. But without more info, the light could maybe only run for 5min before the batteries go flat. A 300 lumen light for R300 wouldn't be very power efficient, especially if it runs from a car baterry.
  12. Must say that's something I don't like about the shops. I like my lbs and they are good for me, but I have phoned them twise to order something for me or find out a price, but not once have they come back to me and then I just went to another place to buy it.
  13. Not a wheelexpert, but those would look the part for the GT
  14. I had enough for my brakes, so I'd rather hang on a bit and get geniune shimano mineral oil, as I'm not a minerals expert and crc is not too expensive.
  15. Just a few things of note: Everyone has different reasons/goals/whatever for riding. I bought a really nice lightweight good component roadbike and that was it. Only thing I've changed in the last year since I had it was the tyres. MTB on the other hand is a sport/past time/hobby/passion for me. I like spending time on the bike, making it better and more race orientated. I could spend all my money on take-aways, sigarettes, booze, dietpills, games, movies, tv's etc. But I'd rather spend it on my hobby, because at least it also makes me healthy, meet likeminded people, develop some skills etc. I'm not a pro, but am rather competitive in the smaller races and when I got a new lighter bike, my times did improve, so why not spend money, if I have extra for the month, on one of the things I love most. And no, I'm not 20kg overweight. I could lose 2/3kg, but I'm working on that. Peace out.
  16. yip, you can mix/match as you like. just keep to the same speed, then you're fine
  17. I got a toilettries bag And last year I bought my first roadbike, cervelo, with my own money made from working and it felt great.
  18. Your R3 looks really nice jatho. I think I should send them mine in a year or so. I've got the all white frame and fork with the black stripe, but this could maybe have the same mental effect as a frame upgrade. Just a lot cheaper

    why ride

You gotta love the rush of flying with your hardtail past guys on their duellies on a technical downhill. And for a deeper meaning: You learn alot about yourself and what you are made of.
  20. Sometimes the weight question is necessary. If I'm on a mission to build a sub 9kg ht and I have two options of a certain component, then 50g can make a uge difference. So, if I can't find it on the web, then I will ask.
  21. I use shimano, so I need mineral oil. DOT will ruin my seals or whatever. I'll try a motorcycle shop. There's one not far from where I live.
  22. Yip they have the screw. I can adjust it, but then my initial reach for the lever would be too big. But the brakes work fine this way, so I'll try a complete re-bleed one day when I feel like working on the bike again. Thanks for all the info guys. Much appreciated.
  23. I always obey traffic stops and hate it when people ride past me and skip the lights. One question though: I don't stop, but slow down, at a 3-stop if I ride accross. Is this wrong of me?
  24. Nice. Congrats. Ja, I'm not used to marathons and my bike setup is too race oriented I think. I'll see you at babbas for the 35km then.
  25. Rad, crc has them for R160 per litre with vat. CWC has it for R130 per 100ml
