  1. You make me feel young (only been a road rider for 30 years) - I don't remember this program - but does sound like a great idea!
  2. I would be quite happy to pay a license fee like most cyclist - just the thing is these fees are work out on the weight of the vehicle and thus cost way more to implement for bicycles as apposed to the revenue collect. As my profile pic say - we (cyclist) don't take our live into our own hands- we put them in your (motorist)! Cyclist do not need to be educated in any form to ride on roads in RSA in fact I don't think their is a specified minimum age as to when you may ride on a public road - so parents out their trust motorist to adhere to the road and not just drive over their kids - and actually thats what the law more or less states. Yup RSA is the only country in the world we have a law you are obliged to cycle single file - a law which is been challenged by many parties. I still don't know why and as this is about Chapmans Peak when I am riding with my friend(s) and going the speed limit why I should ride single files. Added to that any car over taking would be breaking the speed limit - crossing the centre solid line (even if I was single and they did not even give me 700cm let alone 1.5m). Not to mention not having a clear un interrupted view of the road ahead. Driver who are supposably educated to be able to drive - just continually break the laws they are meant to be educated in - but their is no enforcement of the laws! Please add to the list - What laws do: Pedestrians break? J walking often step into the road before looking left / right and left again Sometimes been on road they should not be on - Freeways Cyclist? Riding 2 abreast going through red traffic lights Sometimes speeding Sometimes been on road they should not be on - Freeways To the above who is likely to get physically injured if the cyclist or pedestrian / has causes an accident - the motorist - I think not! Motorist? Speeding Parking incorrectly Not over taking correctly according to road making or what they have pass a drivers license on (possibly about 8 different laws could be broken just on this item) going through red traffic light I am sure you guys can add quite a few more to the list - this si what google says about overtaking: overtaking check list Remember, to overtake safely you must: • Have a clear uninterrupted view of the road ahead. • Check rear-view mirrors and clear blind spots. • Signal your intentions before and after overtaking. • Not exceed the posted speed limit. When you must not overtake You must not overtake another vehicle when: • It is stopping or has stopped at a pedestrian or children’s crossing. • It has stopped at an intersection (unless the driver signals that they are turning left or right and it is safe to do so). • There is a ‘NO OVERTAKING’ or ‘NO PASSING’ sign. • You are nearing a blind bend or the crest of a hill or you do not have a good view of the road ahead. • The road is marked with a dividing line comprising two continuous lines; a continuous line on the left of a broken or dotted line; or a single continuous line.
  3. I have asked myself the question the past few week - why are the big tour busses even allowed on Chapmans Peak drive heading from Hout Bay to Noordhoek? On the decent I have never seen 1 going down without having parts of it over a solid white line. Why is something allowed on a road if it cannot manage the road safely / legally? You don't find busses (well I think once it happened) trying to go down the road in Muizenberg with the low railway bridge - do you? These busses are probably the season why their is a 20km/h speed limit on the pass in the other direction - actually good for cyclist! http://sphotos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/21179_10151300309190310_1644690418_n.jpg
  4. Last week their was a post on cell ph been kept between your legs while driving - now kids already needing "performance enhancing drugs" maybe the population will stop exploding! What sport are we talking?
  5. Bump - due to apathy of cyclist who know how to complain but really are not that interested in getting anything done - possibly that is why of the approximately 20 000 members of PPA has, normally less than 100 go to the AGM. Cyclist don't expect anything to happing if all you can do is complain!
  6. Note my profile pic! While I have 18 till I die by Bryan Adams playing in the background!
  7. Please you really don't need to dope for our local WP races - but for longevity, some banned substances may help! The CSA president on Super Cycling last night said that we should also respect our own bodies - I do - and I want to live as long as possible in a condition which has a quality of life so why at 40 can I not use commercially available Items to help me live long (forever - Carte Blanch did something on the a few months ago - drug which could see us living to like 1000 years of age). My true racing days are over - but I can still give most elite cyclist a hard time! That is clean to date I have never doped, but for longevity reasons I am now considering my options! The only thing I really want to cheat is death - by living longer - don't we all?
  8. I sure I would have got point - but instead I got a puncture!
  9. I think motorist are just quite a lot of the time just not aware as to the rules of the road. Yesterday going up Chapman's Peak quite a few of us doing about 23 km/h at the slowest point but just before we past this sign below a motorist had hooted at us but not overtaken, at the time we were doing about 30km/h - I point at the sign and gave a hard look at the motorist behind us - guess what no problem the guy basically drove behind s the whole way - we rode single except for when passing slower cyclist. Education and awareness is very necessary and by point at signage / solid white line plays a part in making motorist aware. So when a motorist hoot at you and then proceed to try and over take on a solid white line instead of giving the finger - point the finger to the solid white line - maybe it will make the motorist think a little the next time! http://sphotos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/21179_10151300309190310_1644690418_n.jpg
  10. I tend to agree with most of what you are saying - just bringing your attention to this post! http://www.thehubsa....-cyclist-clash/ I think motorist are just quite a lot of the time just not aware as to the rules of the roads - maybe should not be writing this in this post. 11. If he was overtaking he did not do it safely - his fault no questions - if you have a license obey the rules you learn when you got your license or don't drive! It is pointless us cyclist point fingers at cyclist - cannot recall when a cyclist killed / injured a motorist by hitting their car - we as cyclist need to stand together and insist that motorist obey the rules they learn when getting their licenses which cyclist don't need to cycle on roads!
  12. And if motorist played by the rules they meant to have learn't in getting their license - something cyclist don't need and and considering cyclist me even be younger than 10 years of age. Overtaking check list Remember, to overtake safely you must: • Have a clear uninterrupted view of the road ahead. • Check rear-view mirrors and clear blind spots. • Signal your intentions before and after overtaking. • Not exceed the posted speed limit. Cyclist are traffic and road users and classified as vehicles on Sa road - so why do motorist not accept they need to do the same when over taking a cyclist or many cyclist even possibly riding 2 or 3 abreast?

  14. I am alway one to give a little bit of credit when credit is due! On Spaanschemacht river road yesterday - yet where the forest use to be - at least they trying to enforce the speed limit - maybe too little too late but something. Hope the person is ok from todays incident. http://sphotos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/417005_10151300301845310_1944179588_n.jpg

  17. 40km/h wishfull thinking! 20km/h from Noordhook to top 2.2km/h mark underneath. http://sphotos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/p206x206/400345_10151289144960310_758831098_n.jpg But was quite nice to see this in Tokai forest today! http://sphotos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/s480x480/417005_10151300301845310_1944179588_n.jpg
  18. This may seem like a strange comment - but you have to make it easy for people not to dope. So an example if you buy flue medicine at your local Pick 'n Pay because you have flue then you tested and it turned out to be a banned substance - currently you would be supsended. To many complicated rules for products which have little on no effect on your cycling. So raise these level to a far higher level so been sick and using items like flue medicine will not test you positive! Try and keep this drug list down to say 10 items - not sure if 10 is a good number just the suggestion. You have to have test for what you testing - so if you want to ban somebody for blood doping design a test for it - don't give a guy a 2 year suspension for Clenbuterol 40 times lower than what should be tested for - as you suspect he did blood doping. Test for blood doping simple. As I have started a post on HGH - should drugs that improve your avg Joe's life and possible even make you live longer be on the banned list?
  19. Thanks Matt for correcting the heading
  20. I know about the proper test - but can put it off for 5 more years!
  21. After doing all the test you meant to do at 40 (opted for the blood PSA test) and a few more like X rays for my back so we can see how that develops over the next 20 years - the doctor said I was in "too" good condition - my body is better than that of a 30 year old's - so racing is no problem - just ultimately living leads to death but by human nature we want to live as long as possible - we sub conscientiously programed to do that. So what is wrong with going further on a conscience level and if their are drugs available (I am not saying they safe yet or proven yet but with time no doubt they will be) for this why should their be a problem?
  22. I tried that - editing the 1st post - cannot get to header!
  23. For some reason I cannot get into the header and change us to use! I will send a mail to Matt.
  24. As time has passed humans are already living longer - so I would answer yes to you question. Why not just let people die who have disease - why are animals treated with more dignity than humans - when it comes to need to be put down as they are too old? Only in I think 2 countries in the world you legally allowed to perform euthanasia on humans!
