Same thing used to happen to me. What worked for me is to fight the urge to go lie down. Like you said - if you do something active you don't feel the need to have some shut eye. So, in stead of going home to relax - go the gym to unwind and work off some of the stress. Else take the dogs for a walk/mow the lawn/whatever - but don't go lie on the couch!

The worst thing about the 101 is the heat (and maybe the corrugations). Make a weekend of it. Go on Friday, eat at Rubys. Do the 101km. Go to the bar below Hoi Polloi on the main drag and drink beer. They have 50+ labels on the premises. Dinner at Hoi Polloi. Do the 56km. Lunch at one of the other places. Home time. Lekker weekend.

Same with Eco Park in Centurion. Used to swim at the pool in my complex. Eventually stopped doing it because of the chlorine levels - four showers later I still used to reek of chlorine. Skin completely dried out and felt taut all over. Was horrible. Goggles did not prevent eyes from being burnt
