  1. Asking for a friend...????
  2. 11th on the all time list. Anyone got that handy?
  3. Soon we will have handicapped racing I. E. Adding weight to bikes during races...
  4. Not 1x but if I was building again, tempting... https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/377405-shimano-tiagra-10-speed-disc-groupset/
  5. Yip. Have one on my gravel bike. I also use that bike for road touring. And I like the stem. Noticeable dampening of road noise and improved resistance to road fatigue. On gravel, if I ride on the tops on anything apart from corrugations, then my saddle tells me more about the road condition than my hands. A good thing? But on corrugations I still get the stuffing knocked out of me at both ends. I do have quite stiff inserts in the stem so maybe I could soften things up more but I tried that and didn't like the feeling of the bars moving too much when I rode out the saddle. As I said, I like it. And on multi-day tours I am noticeably less fatigued in the arms, shoulders and neck.
  6. Ta muchly. After 1600 km, I may be looking to just get the job done, and get to a beer!
  7. Ta muchly. More likely in Apr/May next year.
  8. Got ya! Need to do a bit more planning for alternatives. Fortunately please of time for that...
  9. Ta muchly!
  10. Thanks for the advice. What's the issue with Mamre/Atlantis?
  11. Okes, I don't know CT very well but am starting to plan a tour from JHB to CT for next year, and as you're chatting about CT routes maybe I could ask for some advice? My current thinking is on the last day of my tour to ride from Darling to the Waterfront. I hear mention of Melkbos and see that's nearby... Any thoughts on a sensible route to get from Darling to the Waterfront? It'll probably be on a Sunday if that helps.
  12. Nothing wrong with the Farr colours on offer currently. I quite like the orange one having seen a fee in the flesh. I just like bare bikes and I think the Farr geometry would be synergistic with a bare clear coat only. Maybe it's the hint of a Ti look that appeals, but bare steel and black fittings elsewhere floats my boat. One day perhaps...
  13. Also of the view that the unpainted frame should be offered again. Perhaps with a Farr decal on the down tube to keep the marketeers happy...
  14. Well would you accept that your considered design decision and it's implication on self-build component selection could have been better communicated?
  15. Check their website. They had a special on the carbon frames this week...
  16. Is that the case? I.e. your racetec event time isn't 'flagged' as ebike assisted? I didn't realise that...
  17. From memory the Jock site said they are capped at 800 entrants ( could be wrong).
  18. For a race that advertises the challenge of climbing etc, it does seem incongruous that ebikes are allowed. But if numbers are dwindling then I suppose organisers have little choice. Maybe they need to be a little more creative in their advertising? Same deal with 947 (Joburg's 'toughest' race...)
  19. Slight hijack...where does one get liner shorts with a pad from, without selling a kidney? Decathlon used to sell but have discontinued. And Takealot have Endura at over R1500!
  20. Beyond the aesthetic, which is v sexy, do you have any evidence that your curved seat stays, as opposed to straight, offer any advantage?
  21. Exactly the debate I had with myself last night! And then I looked at my Cotic X and thought I really should upgrade the wheels to finish that project off first...
  22. One option might be to look at your existing MTB? How much could be built over on the Farr, to keep costs down? Not very N+1 I know...
  23. Ride stage 1 well within yourself. Don't start stage 2 too fast...There's some solid climbing to do before you drop down into Sabir (and if you haven't recce'd the route the climb is quite deceptive). Don't charge out of Sabie on stage 3. With luck you'll pass lots of people on the Long Tom! And hold something back for the ride back to the finish as the rollers can bite on tired legs! So in summary...ride it and don't race it first-time out!
  24. So I'd like to understand one aspect of this thread, namely the apparent multiple suggestions that the OP should just get out there and get on with his challenge without publicising it before hand? Is this general consensus? If so, why?
