  1. I feel the urge to do some calcs...couple of questions for you if I may? Voltage of battery? 500 Ah or Wh battery?
  2. May I ask what the (working) definition is of classic and vintage?
  3. Does anyone know if the new road at Harties is open yet? That must be pretty steep. Extension of R512 from across the causeway, North over the hill to join the R104 bypassing the 4-way craft market stop.
  4. A couple of photos of your bike rack would be appreciated... Home made?
  5. To give you an idea I run 10 sp sti and 9 sp mtb rd as 2x10 on 50/34 and 11/36. As is...no problem. I want to drop to 11/40 and if the Rd gives me grief I'll use a Rapide Rd extender (<R200) to work around. Run the bike for bike-packing, touring and gravel grinding. I just accept that I spin a little more or grind a little more due to jumps in gearing.
  6. 10 sp sti and 9 sp mtb rd gives you 10 speeds. One of those shimano things... But 9 sp (2×9) on its own even for climbing or bike packing imo would be fine. Big granny with an rd extender, if necessary and just accept the jumps in the cassette. It's not as if you're racing and looking for an optimal gear?
  7. You called? And who is this Amy you speak about...introductions please!
  8. Or consider shimano? 10 sp sti works with 9-sp MTB RD. As does 9sp sti incidentally. Cheaper to source perhaps?
  9. Or head to the Cradle and join the multitude of groups, formal and otherwise that'll be there. Based on current weekends, it's a tad busy and...entertaining. Best get there before the sun if sanity needs to be preserved.
  10. FWIW, my carbon road bike has been gathering dust for most of this year as my steel gravel bike has been found difficult to put down - 28mm gators kins for the road. A world of comfort if one wishes to accept a couple of kilos extra (the bike not just me)...
  11. BTW you should be fine to use 9-sp STI with a 9-sp MTB RD, and the shimano RD specs are v conservative so you can push the largest sprocket.
  12. Good point...1 less than 1:1. I ride 50/34 and 11/36 which is good for all I've ridden this far. But perhaps add in if you're touring/bike-packing, in which case 2 less than 1:1 seems more prudent (I'm about to go to 11/40 for this reason).
  13. I see some SA lady cyclists are 'gearing' up for some Everesting activity... https://bicyclesouth.co.za/2020/09/sheveresting-womens-everesting-for-charity/
  14. Damn! Based on BMI...I'm under-height!
  15. Thanks all. Best get my climbing legs out and drop that 10 kg of Lockdown Lard in 10 days...????
  16. I'm possibly heading to Barberton for a family weekend soon and want to take a road bike for a bit of a pedal. I don't know the area so does anyone have suggestions for 40-60km rides?
  17. I think that was the time the cops evacuated the site for transgression of covid regs...
  18. Seems like a bargain! And a 28-36 granny...v worthwhile for touring.
  19. To ride from Arabella to Botrivier the R43 is good. To use Karwyderskral is out of the way. I'm not sure of your route from Botrivier onwards though?
  20. Yip. Two Wheels Trading have the same business address.
  21. Have you pulled the cable and checked it? I has something similar, at least as I interpret your description, and turns out the cable end at the barrel was frayed. It snapped on the way to the bike shop...
