  1. I read somewhere that he fell a few weeks back and injured his shoulder. He rode last week at the XCO cup but only managed 3rd. I'm suspecting he isn't feeling back to form yet, so decided not to ride. He has had a torrid season so far, so racing when he's not 100% would've just added to his woes.
  2. For example; the average time on Day 2 of Sani is somewhere between 6 and 7 hours. That is only 1900m of climbing. Sella Ronda is almost exactly two and a half times that. I'd say 9 hours isn't bad at all on that course.
  3. At 87km with 4700m of climbing for the men (and 60km with 3400m ascent for the women) they are by no means dime a dozen. The biggest days in the Epic don't even get close to that.
  4. Frank should quit and join Andy in the shop - they can call it "Menstrual Cycles".
  5. For a wild card, that is really a proper Grand Tour team. Nice balance between experience and promising potential. I'm expecting big things!
  6. Looking forward! Did my first one last year, can't wait to go back!
  7. It should be quite a tussle between Cherise and Robyn. I wonder what sort of gains Cherise got riding Sani with Ariane. Should've benefited her and looks like she is hitting some good form. Robyn is always a class act so it should be good race. The young guns impressed again at Albstadt last weekend. I wouldn't be surprised if James takes it again. That being said, Kleinhans, Bell, etc. have all been in good form since Epic. Eirk has also been around for Magalies Monster, showing that he is putting in some prep in the Magalies, specifically with nationals in mind, I would assume. Should be a good race. I'll be chasing the ladies... from batch D...
  8. He's had a great career. He was one of the very few that actually had a shot going into Worlds in his prime. It's a pity that he is ending such an awesome career in a bit of a subdued fashion. I guess the clock ticks for everyone. Go well Kev.
  9. Have a look here: http://www.bikelife.co.za/bicycle-rentals/ Best spot on the Gauteng list is undoubtedly Heia. Awesome trails and lots of game (Giraffe, Wildebeest, Springbok, etc.) that you are guaranteed to see. Really a great spot!
  10. Doc, I would consider investing in consulting with someone who specializes in strategies to get your product to the market. In my mind, there's no doubt that you have a superior product, but there is a distinct lack of focus on your customer.
  11. Awesome looking bike! I want! It's my birthday in a couple of weeks. Better send this link ot the wife...
  12. I've watched this now a couple of times. Love it! Hard work coupled with a massive natural "engine" makes for a special athelete. I still have a signed Scott Odlo jersey in my cupboard somewhere. I need to get my Bike Room back up and running so that I can put it up. Legend!
  13. All the best Max! Hope you guys have a great ride. I feel for Kevin. Given the way he used to dominate the local scene back in the day, it surely can't be easy not being right up there at the sharpest end of the field. People tend to forget that he has a World Champs top 10. But life and priorities change as one get older, I get that. Hoping to see you guys bringing it home on the beach in May.
  14. Well done! Awesome achievement! I loved these write ups of yours. Would love another one on the overall experience of the week, e.g. mood in the race village throughout the week, logistics. overall impressions, etc.
  15. As I understand it Carbo Fuel is the replacement for Classic Energy. Stand to be corrected, but pretty much the same thing with a new name.
  16. I've always used the Classic Energy as I wasn't sure whether to go for that or Marathon. Started using Marathon and have not looked back. There is nothing that compares to it. Haven't been able to get hold of the new natural flavor stuff though, but that's ok. Just glad I could eventually get hold of the product. I now use Marathon along with the high 5 caffeine tabs. It's an awesome combo.
  17. Looks like you are willing to give us some of the inside scoop on Rourke & Travis? lol I guess money talks, especially for the young guys. I always wonder whether the usn athletes actually use their products or if they just sport the brand. We'll never know... Anyway, who are your sponsored athletes at the moment?
  18. Was rooting for Daryl. It's a pity he couldn't pull it off. Must be difficult to come to these races without a team to support. Still, glad for Jacques and MTN-Qhubeka. Well done to them.
  19. Jeroen, I get that you want to support the cycling industry, but shouldn't the customer be put first? As for the cycle shops... Have you ever seen a struggling bike shop owner? Your new strategy is benefiting the people who is benefiting most from the massively growing cycling market, at expense of your customers. Just my 2c. Still love your product.
  20. I agree that being a positive influence is one of the greatest qualities any person can have. So cudos to you there. However, I'm also a firm believer in giving (and receiving) fair and honest feedback to enhance something that is sub-par.
