  1. I'm gonna ride my Kona Hahana today. Rigid fork and v brakes. Love it so much it's still in my garage after 15 years. Glad I've never sold it
  2. No complaints about parking being 2 k's away........it was that damn hill to ride up to get there. When I saw the washbay queue Inrinsed my bike with a hose round the corner an washed at home. Running out of water was not great, especially when you plan your ride around getting water at a water point, but I agree, probably was guys washing their bikes with it. Merging of routes at end of these races is always an issue......yet nobody learns. I still think the route and race outweigh some of the negatives. In the end it is actually about the ride. And my time was spot on in the results so can't comment on that.
  3. I agree. Was a good tough race. I just hate mud and what it does to the bike. Water at water points was a problem and can be improved.
  4. Plenty mud. Tough course. Water was a problem. I was in C batch and water point 2 and 3 had no water. Point 2 only had coke. As far the guy with a sick sense of humour. Park cars miles away at the top of a steep hill !!! Ride up that after a hard race :-(
  5. Luv my XX groupset, but have XTR brakes. Brakes are the best.
  6. Maybe you'll be slower on the SS and won't miss any route markings coz you riding too fast ;-)...............like last year.
  7. Have your BB checked.

    Tour Down Under

Great to see Daryl in 7th overall. Especially good result seeing as he put in huge work for Simon. Great overall result for Orica and Simon. Another good year on the cards for SA riders !!
  9. No real trails in Mtuba. There are apparently some trails from Monzi towards Mapelane, but not sure where they start or end. Most of the riding there would be on the forest roads. How long you there ?
  10. Cool. Just highlighting how many people jump on the bandwagon about helmets, but then don't care about other safety aspects. Seatbelts, jumping stop streets in cars and on bikes, condoms ( don't always know your partner is as safe as you......) I've ridden with guys who have a huge issue over no helmet, but then jump every red robot, ride multiple abreast on busy roads, sit trucks etc. etc.
  11. The biggest number of deaths on our roads are pedestrians....not cyclists. Maybe they should all wear helmets. I wear a helmet....my choice, but I raced in the 70's and 80's without helmets or a strip of leather. We crashed, still here to tell the tale. I also don't remember there being more deaths and head injuries than today. I still love riding without a helmet. End of the day it is personal choice. Does everyone critisizing the non use of helmets wear seatbelts and force their kids to wear seatbelts in the back of cars...........and do they all wear condoms ? All personal choice.
  12. They already stole the cameras from the Boksburg toll gantry !
  13. I think you should get 1 of each, and don't forget HT and full sus :-) Just kidding. But forget about medium and small and check the actual size in inches. Each manufacturer has their own sizing, so a medium in one could be 16" and another 17". I think a Spez is 17,5". All makes a difference. Also the frame geometry changes depending on the cost. More high end more racey. So not as simple as do I need a small or a medium. I ride a 52" road bike but ride a medium Scott which is 17" in a 29'er. Works fine for me. I also tend to have shorter legs in relation to top body. My 26'er though was a small Merida which was 16". Go ride the bikes and see what feels comfortable. Or have a bike fit. Not even considering the type of riding as that brings in a whole new dimension.
  14. A good reason is that there's an S-Works !! Don't sell yourself short, and remember there's never logic involved when buying a new bike.
  15. He is now known as Sir Tjop !! That means he's a bigger and better Tjop than anyone else :-)
  16. I agree that some medals may not be the greatest, but at least if only given to podiums they actually mean something.
  17. Medals should be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
  18. This happened a number of times with a friend of mine. Also on Maxxis. I must admit, at the same time never happened to me. He also likes to ride with high tyre pressures. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
  19. Ok, I sympathise. I know how you feel.beginning of year a guy crashes me in a race. Gashed my knee open ( was in top 10 at the time). Get stitches. Wound goes septic. I ended up in hospital for a week and an op to clean out wound. 7 weeks no riding. I start training for Sani. 3 weeks in, dog tuns in front of me, I go over bars and dislocate my clavicle. Another 7 weeks off. And all of this on my Scott RC 29'er that I bought in Dec. so was still brand new.
  20. It's the smaller wheels. Not as fast !!
  21. My new chain was R600. Where can I get for under R100 :-)
  22. Bad luck for Jay who caught the Rwanda bug !!! He deserves a win for his attacking style of racing.
  23. Simple. If you don't like being screwed, don't enter. Speak with your wallets.
