  1. Maybe the slightly heavier mtb had built up a bit more momentum on the downhill which carried him past the roadie and halfway up the hill before it ran out of steam ???
  2. Please edit.........always pass a roadie when on my mtb !! :-)
  3. The issue is the mtb'er was on a 26'er !!!!
  4. Was there not government intervention a few years back where they were forced to follow the 11 province rule. Also where issues started with PPA when they boycotted the meeting. So government said there can only be 11 affiliated bodies, so PPA didn't qualify, but didn't want to then be part of the system. Problem is, government then walked away, job done, with no further interest in how it is being run. To the extent that the PPA issue still not resolved.
  5. I agree, size of bike is dependent on your inseam. I have shorter legs in relation to my height, so ride a slightly smaller frame, but I feel I need a longer top tube or stem because my reach is therefore longer.
  6. Gerald Sorry, I wasn't referring to you. I was talking about this thread and others, where others all complain about CSA, but do nothing about it. Unfortunately there needs to be more people like you prepared to try and change the system. A bit like complaining about the government, but yet you don't vote at elections !!
  7. Rather go with what fits you, but if you have to go for something of a different size, err on the smaller size, but not ridiculously so. I should ride a 17" mtb, but some only come in a 16" pr 18", so I rather ride a 16"
  8. This discussion comes up many times. To be on the committee and change things, there is a system through clubs, provinces and then CSA. Representatives get selected by the provinces. I wonder how many cyclists even go to the relevant elections and meetings at the various bodies to elect new faces, or put themselves up for election ? It's no use always complaining but never doing anything about it. I don't agree with how CSA operates, but Ll I'm saying, if you don't like something, only you can change it, and it starts with getting involved. Almost all controlling bodies are run by administrators, and have the same issues.
  9. Either we're really gatvol of this doping ****, or the guy's a real nobody, coz this thread actually ran out after about 2 posts.
  10. What is medium pace ?
  11. I believe one of the Lesotho riders was riding an old steel Raleigh. Surprised he was only 4 or 5 laps down.
  12. But Olympics were sooooo last year :-) I did test ride a Spez and loved it. Just couldn't justify the R90k for the S-Works that I want.
  13. Oh, and don't forget, it's a Scott that won the World Champs !! :-) so gotta be best in the world.
  14. If you want the brain system, then go Spez. But you will get a much better specced Scott at the same price as the Spez. The advice everyone always gives, is buy the best components in your price range, so that will be the Scott. When I was looking in Dec, the Spez Epic comp was about R37k, but is a mix of carbon and Alu. Components were x7 and x9. Nothing fantastic. Ended up with a Scott Scale 900 RC, yes the hard tail, at R40k but full SRAM XX, and weighing under 10kg's. I just know, if I bought the Epic Comp, I'd always be wishing I'd bought the Epic S-Works, but different price range completely.
  15. Bad fall for Mariske when she was in a great position. Flat tyre going over the jump near the finish !! The difference with Masters, and to take nothing away from the winners, is not sure how many masters travelled here to race, so there I think locals will always have an advantage. Elites totally different. All the worlds best.
  16. Dunno about easy. With Hermida and Fumic chasing hard, they were always around 10 seconds back. You have to work really hard to maintain that small gap all the time. But he definitely looks faster and makes it look easier than most of the other riders. Didn't see Buys fall but I believe he had a few crashes. Was right up the at one stage. Maybe pushing too hard.
  17. Now that Nino won the worlds on a Scott, everyone wants one !! Hope you find them, I'd be heartbroken if mine was stolen.
  18. Used hanging racks for years. Sometimes 4 bikes. Never ad a problem. Used stretchy cables to secure bikes together and to rack so no movement. Needed some small section of styrofoam e tubing that opens along the side to put around forks or cranks where potentially touching. Trouble is with dual sus bikes. Often don't fit on the rack because of shock. Then have to try use down tube. Ok if 1 bike, but not if more bikes. I like the platform racks, but hanging also easy and smaller to store or carry in boot of car. When I bought my racks platform wasn't available. Now I do think platform would be great but quite expensive.
  19. In football......European trophy, or league title ?
  20. Cables running under the bar tape.
  21. gtr1

    bike size

52cm souns too big for you. I am 1.75 and always rode a 51. Also remember, frame size more a measurement of your inner leg than your height. Proportion of leg to total length differs from person to person. But from your post not sure if it's just the seat post that's an issue.
  22. MTBaaisikilist, appreciate your openness and honesty. And yes it does bring some insight into the process. Also highlights just how naive all of us are to doping. So nothing personal, just general observations, and yes I hate dopers. I have been on the losing side of doping many years ago when as a youngster you are faced with the decision, is that what I need to do to compete when you know you are bett than some of the doped riders. My take is zero tolerance and there should be harsher punishments. You can't draw a line and "allow" some categories to dope and others not. So the rules have to cover all. I suppose the percentages work in the favour of the fun rider as very little chance of ever been tested. You were unlucky in this case, which as you admit, doesn't make it right. We all sign and accept terms in these contracts, like the UCI contract, without knowing and understanding the terms. Which is what makes this discussion insightful. On the Epic, in theory it is The major mtb race in the world and as such no real fun riders. But that's a different debate on the format of the event. Good luck with CSA.
  23. Nah, Ithink it's the ones who don't have a sense of humour.
  24. So it's a ladies only event !!
  25. Problem is with these "global" contracts that we have to accept and have no choice to negotiate like insurance, banking, telco's etc. when it comes to disputes, we the small people don't have the means for a protracted legal dispute against their full-time lawyers. So in most cases we have to walk away being the ones with the proverbial pineapple.......
