  1. May good prevail
  2. And learn from yours and others mistakes,. but as a commercial PIC there is little margin for mistakes, training and checks make sure of that.
  3. And then there was the Lion Air and Ethiopian 733 Max disasters when the trim runaway procedures were (allegedly) not followed,
  4. One mistake can mean death to all, doubt that that is true .... Doubt a commercial pilot would keep his or her job if they landed a heavy with gear up.. There was also those wild oscillations of a Emirates 380 in a cross wind because the PIC was stabbing rudder lef then right then left, I think he got booted.
  5. yup can't see what can be done to fix that mess except some veneer maybe? One of my clients who recently re-built a house from basically scratch and paid vast amounts of $$ to building contractor who built this feature stairway that was open from one side with glass, stairs were then covered in laminate / engineered wood, the issue was that most of the built stairs were not plumb nor square no symmetrical and the covering only accentuated this - very obvious to me looking at it side on, and I pointed it out at the time to the customer when the builders and fitters were still there, she could not really see it and Mr Smooth Talker builder fudged his way out of it, he brought out his level and faked a few measurements but it was as clear as daylight to me..... it would bug me forever if it was my house or my job. Having an eye for straight and plumb can be seen as a disability in this part of the world.

  8. Oh yea ... and we went the long way, up the side of Botswana to Vic Falls, back down to Bulawayo, then up to Harare, in a clapped out Combi and with someone on ur case the whole frigging time (said mates gf), not pleasant. Did you remember Thomas Mapfumo at that concert? he was the local musician of note, man of great talent and integrity. I think others like the Bundu Boys were all dead from Aids by then. The year before it was the Paul Simon Graceland concert which I had the pleasure of attending with some more amenable fellow travelers .. magic times! Must say I traveled the length and breadth of Zim in the late 80's and 90's, it was really cool, besides the beauty of the country, the people on the whole were amazing.
  9. Yes, he had no choice LOL. She eventually dragged him off to Oz, have not been heard of / from since. Once went on a road trip with them to a concert in Zim back in the day.: Big mistake.
  10. In answering my own question: "The term "tickey" was used as a nickname for the 3d coin.[1] It was also used for its replacement, the 2½c coin.[2]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coins_of_the_South_African_pound
  11. Just how much was a Tickie? seems to remember it being something like a 2.5c coin
  12. I know a m8 who spent time in the UK (back in the day when safa's could go there visa free for 6 months), who used to use a recording of the dtmf pulses on a Walkman to score the credits needed to phone his domineering gf back home who expected to hear from him every day.
  13. Ye old Tikkie Box.... First time I went to NYC I was amazed to see how many there where, just about everywhere.
  14. Its a beautiful aircraft, flown in it a few times (Singapore)

  17. Garmin taking it to the next level ....
  18. Think of it as an insurance policy - you only really need it when you don't have it! I have been caught out the once I left my saddle bag at home and had a flat about half way, it was a long walk back to the parklng lot LOL Since gone tubeless on my road bike but i still carry a spare tube, as I do on my mtb.
  19. I'm overdue for a sufferfest, just waiting for it to green up a bit. Just make sure you pack spares and can deal with a flat.
  20. Furthermore I would argue that the situation exists because, broadly speaking, management have been appointed / anointed with scant regard to skills. experience, insight, proven track record, ability to manage, education etc due to BEE / AA targets & criteria with the naive belief that will learn on the job. This really renders the organisation dysfunctional from the outset, because they are quite fankly not able to do the crtical job of managing such a big orgnaisation which relies on functional hierarchy, things do and have fallen apart. This is situatuion is not unique to Eskom as is self evident. Even bigger problem is that the regime is not able to admit the dismal and destructive failure of such policies, and until they do, and the right people are appointed to do the job regardless of race, colour or creed, quite frankly we are stuffed. We, as in all of us. Everyone suffers.
  21. I still have and use tools I made myself during my machine shop training days Don't own any Snapon it should be said, but I do love fine to0ls and I'd rather spend my tool money on Makita brushless cordless than such stuff as Snapon who's price I can not reconcile.for my use. But look at Gedore nowdaze, of which I have plenty, quite a bit more pricey than the many no-name and random name brands of Chinese tools which themselves are not that bad, so Gedore can even be seen as an upmarket alternative, they are made well and do last, and good investment.
  22. Just why is Snapon so expensiive? Its Chromemoly just like Gedore ain't it? sure its made well , but 10x-100X the price of Gedore??? Would love to have some of those ratcheted spanners though.
  23. The price of Snapon is off the scale for the average kippie, although I do a have a good perve every time I go to Toolshop in Randburg. Although I think V12 man is not impartial to the brand....
  24. are those your SAA work tools?
