  1. I really don't mind getting dirty on the bike, after all it is a mtb event. But when the mud goes up to your waist that's a bit hectic. Don't dig that section through the vlei. Definitely will not return if the mud and water is as bad next year as it was this.
  2. I don't lecture, I'm not a parent or a teacher. But I will speak to you to make sure you are aware of the (potential) dangers involved. If you decide to carry on and something happens to you conscience will be clear.
  3. Show us the studies that prove that helmets don't save lives and I will believe you. Sadly, you may battle to find this and may in some cases find contradictory stats. The whole point of wearing your helmet is for that 0.1% chance that you may survive. Sure if a car hits you from behind at speed odds are you'd be dead, but you might not be and a helmet sure as hell won't do any harm. So why not take a chance, wear your helmet and stop reasoning like a dwis?
  4. haha unfortunately that counts for any post mall later at home activities as well. But in all seriousness, maybe its just a mental thing, discipline or just laziness for me but I've had times after a hard training block that I just can't get onto the bike. I need that day off just relax before going at it again
  5. I don't mean to be negative, but isn't this a recipe for overtraining? Shouldn't you have complete rest days, where you do absolutely nothing (ito exercise)
  6. Is there a route map / profile available yet?
  7. Does anybody have experience with the Ambit 3 run? Is it worth the buy as its a slightly "older" model now that spartan has been released?
  8. How much did it cost landed? Looks amazing with the blank cover on
  9. I've always done a dynamic warm up instead of static stretches (leg swings, squat jumps etc.) Read an interesting article re static stretching the other day that reckons its not so good for you pre run. http://www.runnersworld.com/sweat-science/should-you-stretch-before-running
  10. How do you guys handle tight calves while running? Afterwards is no issue, I've just noticed that especially early into my run my calves are super tight. So not sure if this is normal or not?
  11. I'm assuming you guys know a little about cannondale For pure xc marathon/xco racing what would be the better option, the new scalpel SI 3 or scalpel hardtail equivalent. I'm looking to get rid of my current bike and upgrade to something a bit more racy.
  12. Its pretty interesting to see that whenever a new product has been released every hubber suddenly has an advanced engineering / aerodynamics degree I think they look cool and based on the videos explaining how they work it makes sense. But 65K for a set of wheels is a k@kload of money.
  13. Hey Guys, How long does it normally take to break in shoes properly? I recently bought shoes and the fit is perfect and super comfy when starting to run, its just still got that weird new shoe feel to it. Done 2 runs in them so far.
  14. Was a great race as always, just (as always) the lazy okes in the group who sit and do nothing make you work your ass off and then at the sprint you see them front row.
  15. Looks like Paarl, with the taalmonument in the background. Hopefully somebody can confirm?
  16. Seeded AL 2nd last race before leaving the alphabet soup and starting Elite next year
  17. How does the seeding work for tri? Will you be able to convince them with training files to bump you up? I'm a strong swimmer, my cycling is A batch and my running is decent, but I'm not to keen to start at the very back of the tri alphabet in a race
  18. Damn, so the correct sum would be: value of item + import duty + 10% + 14% Also not sure if I missed it, but whats the process for 2nd hand imports?
  19. Is the ATV always applicable? I thought its only applied when there is no import duty?
  20. Physical adaptations take a while to set in, so if you're expecting a coaching program to give you a growth of 20% monthly you are fooling yourself, BUT if you can be realistic and expect say 20% growth in 6 months (depending on skill level) and justify spending X amount on that then go for it. Else buy yourself the book from Hunter Allan and try self coaching
  21. Not to say your suggestion is bad, but it's not very good. I think they should rather use a base model seeding, therefore if you ride say A batch road races you should be seeded in an equivalent batch on the mtb races. People will be sorted in batches of equal fitness level. Most of the xc mtb races here are anyway fairly non technical. I had a slight mechanical issue at the race start, forcing me to be the very last 60km rider to go. My avg speed was around 24kmph when we hit the singletrack with the lynnwood cyclery boards. From there due to slow riders and people who brake for no reason it started dropping, by the time we hit the final 10km i had dropped 3kmph on average speed. So us being impatient is understandable IF the organisers put (i'm guessing) 500 people on a course with 90% singletrack AND as you said with the 40km and 60km ending together. Also I think they should let the 40k racing snakes go before the 60k batch with a gap of about 5min, we'll never catch them and then we won't have some little twit just come flying past on the dodgiest of dodgy places.
  22. Great event, super tough. Do you have a date planned for the next event?
  23. My Current ftp is 223w @ 64kg.. BUT I tested last year november last, I'm starting to get a NP of around 230w on moderate group rides. Like I said also it's what my coach prescribes.
  24. I have an FTP test day scheduled for the 17th this month. Last time I did one it was brutal just going flat out from the start. Is there a way to try and pace it, or should you just go flat out? My coach prescribes a 2x 8min test, then it's avg power between the 2 intervals multiplied by 90% (i think that's the calculation)
  25. Do we need to enter online? Or is it on the day entry?
