  1. Did my first commute (27km) with the trail bike today, not much slower than it would have been with my xc bike, and this is with a 150/135mm travel bike with plus size tyres. So they are not that much slower than what people make them out to be. It also felt much more comfortable.
  2. Thanks for the feedback. Was hoping there would be a review done on them. This will be my next upgrade, can't wait!!
  3. Those with the Lyne Amp 30 V2, please do a small review or just some feedback on the positives/negatives of the wheelsets, please.
  4. I feel some bike shops are partially to blame for this. Walk into a big store like Cwc or bike-addict. Most bikes on their floor will be xc bikes. Because that is what the pro's ride. I feel they have a obligation to help and steer newbie rider who want to start mountain biking to better suited bikes or at the very least warn them on the limitations of the bike they are buying. I'm not talking about the guy that buys a hardtail because he is on a budget, we've all been there. I'm talking about the guys who buys Scalpal's or Epics who would be better off with a more relaxed bike.
  5. I was in the same dilemma. I can only have one bike. I rode Jonkershoek mostly and enjoyed the longer days out on the bike. I decided to sell my 100mm xc-race bike (Silverback Sesta) and buy a nice trail bike (Spez Stumpy). Looking at the numbers the trail bike is a bit slower and heavier, but it is much more comfortable and confidence inspiring than the Silverback ever was. I could ride the whole of Armageddon with my Silverback, but on the Stumpy I feel more in control and much more stable going down. It feels like the better geometry and extra travel allows you to make mistakes and not having to pay for it with your body. I had a dropper on both bikes so it was not a saddle-up-the-arse case. I am now fully convinced that if you can only have one bike to do it all, buy a trail bike.
  6. Not new, but she is finally here. Stumpy 6Fattie.
  7. I was thinking around 100mm from the side as well. Thanks for the suggestion.
  8. Yes it is a normal wall socket, but I bought one of those electrical pvc boxes to cover up the underside.
  9. The socket I will be using: The top of the desk, it is about 600mm across and only supported on the front and back side. The underside of the desk showing the support. The planned location of the socket. I wanted to place it at the back close to the support, but the desk can be used either way around.
  10. I have a quick question. I bought a desk today and my plan is to install a wall socket (one with a normal plug, the two-prong type as well as some USB charging points) into the top of the desk so that it sits almost flush with the desk. My question now is how much will cutting a hole near one of the edges compromise on strength? It is just 16mm melamine particle board. How far from the edge do I need to cut to ensure that it won't break there?
  11. True, but I bought a frame off a guy a while back and when I wanted to go and rate my buying experience (I think rating sellers is important to the health of the classifieds) he removed the ad and I could not find him.
  12. I'm also in the market for NC headphones. I am looking on the budget end though and found these two that I am interested in. If anyone has a set would they mind giving their opinion on it. https://online.celcom.co.za/products/audio/xqisit-anc-oe400-black.html https://www.takealot.com/sennheiser-hd-4-50-btnc-headphones/PLID46575630?gclid=Cj0KCQiAn4PkBRCDARIsAGHmH3fZoICjWFwFNdKmodi81GvYBlxOlyv2fsNRThksTvUtVxxoYB5y89EaAiJ0EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds The Sennheiser set looks like it might be worthwhile to get based on the reviews on Takealot.
  13. These are the two routes I use to get into Stellenbosch Bottelary - Devon valley road And, Kuilsrivier - Polkedraai into Stellenbosch Both routes are about 27km and I don't need a trail permit for these two roads.
  14. Did my first commute this morning, quite enjoyed cycling in to the office. Will see how I feel during the day and how cycling back this afternoon goes, this might become a more frequent event.
  15. I was considering it as well, read some posts and searched the interwebs. Apparantly you might need a "goat-link" to be able to run such a big cassette, I also read of people getting away with just a longer b-tension screw. Someone will hopefully shed some light on this.
  16. I've ridden the Bottelary-Devon Valley-Polkadraai loop before, as those are the two options that I feel comfortable with at the moment, still need to get a bottelary trail permit.
  17. From where do you commute in the mornings to stellenbosch, and which routes do you normally take? I want to ride in from Protea Hoogte, but still unsure if I want to go past Kayamandi so for now I'm considering Devon valley road.
  18. if you move the rail down a bit, would you be able to fit a 750ml bottle with the tool storage?
  19. Got to test a scott 720+ today, must say the plus size wheels impressed me on the climbs. The heat made it nearly impossible to do a proper ride on though.
  20. Ah I see the trees on the right.
  21. Where in Stellenbosch was this taken?
  22. I think I took a chance with the price there
  23. Hi, sorry I was a bit busy; pics attached below.
  24. New number used by Bobbyjackson031970 is 0613626486, got the same "interested in bike" and request to email him whatsapp.
  25. Sorry, my bad. Saw the Commencal and GT about a week apart on GMBN and sort of assumed that all new designs would go in that direction.
