  1. Won't normal Look cleats work. I have a pair of Campag pedals and the Look cleats fit perfectly. Otherwise, JJ Cycling are the official Campag suppliers www.jjcycling.co.za
  2. OK....just for you to understand. In 2011, I had dealings with the product manager of Raleigh. During our discussion, he told me that they had designed a whole new range of Raleighs for 2012. They had built a number of Prototypes, with Raleigh graphics and Raleigh branding. They were taken by surprise when Raleigh International withdrew their rights to sell bikes under the name Raleigh. Because they were not allowed to use the name Raleigh, Probike were forced to destroy the prototypes. I suppose it is cheaper to destroy a frame than sand it, repaint etc.
  3. The prototypes had the name Raleigh on them. They were destroyed. New ones were made with Axis on them. Besides, the Axis range was slightly different.
  4. That is exactly what they did. Ever heard of Axis?
  5. Actually Raleigh dropped Probike. Raleigh did not like the fact that Scott bought Probike and they withdrew the naming rights. Probike had a whole new Raleigh range ready for 2012 and had to destroy all their prototypes when they lost the rights. Raleigh are still imported through Evolution cycles. They are only available through one or two shops and Makro and don't have much of a range
  6. Height is not really a good reference for size. Let the shop measure you properly
  7. My brother in law lives in Rotarua. Are the streets really lined with gold or is he being an arse. Serriously, he goes on and on about how wonderful it is. From the pictures, it looks like a stunning place
  8. I bought my son a 16inch Avalanche for his 3rd birthday. The wheels have rusted to nothing and now some of the parts are starting to rust too. I suppose any kids bike will suffer the same problem. The rust started to set in after a few months. I should've taken it back as it came with a 1 year warranty but never got round to it. It took him a year or so before he could start to ride it as it was too big. He is 5 now and he is still using it.
  9. Axis don't make road bikes anymore. Some bike shops were giving them away. If you can get one cheaper than the Silverback, then it could be a good buy. But if the prices are similar, then the Silverback beats it hands down. The frame is so much better
  10. I won't put my head on a block, but I had a Centaur 10 speed and I don't remember there being a spacer. If there was, I sold the groupset without it
  11. Your average bike thief wouldn't have had the tools to remove some of the parts. Your average bike theif would never have stolen a bike like that just to get a few groupset parts. There is definately more to this story.
  12. Saddle fore aft should have been part of their set up too. Yes, you do get a forward facing seat post, but they look ridiculous. You can buy a normal post and turn it around.
  13. No...........the cables on the old Ultegra will irritate you (the newer 105 has hidden cables) and you won't notice a difference in performance
  14. That young woman that presents Petrolheads on DSTV along with that Indian guy that presents Buyers Guide. They don't belong on TV
  15. Maybe I got a bad batch, but I got about 600km out of my front Diamante Pro and about 150km from my back. I locked my back wheel trying to avoid a dog outside my house. 2kms later a bubble appeared on the tyre. Luckily I turned back home because it exploded in spectacular fashion outside of my driveway.
  16. I tried to buy from them some time ago and received an email to say that they did not ship to South Africa, yet there are plenty of people here that have bought from them.
  17. I'm going through the same excerise, except I'm changing to 650b. I've gone through great pains to ensure that I get either new or nearly new parts and I've waited for bargains to come up. You may be able to get yours second hand a bit cheaper or more expensive depended on the spec level you want. These are my costs so far: Suntour XCR fork (new from a bike- R350 You may not need a fork if yours has disc mounts. Tektro Disc brakes (new) - R900. Shifters Sram Attack - R100. If your shifters are shift/brake combos and you get hydraulic brakes, then you need new shifters too. Wheels - Still to buy, but I've seen second hand disc wheels for as little as R600 Don't waste your money on cable discs, V-Brakes are often better
  18. It depends on the spec level that you are wanting. If you are looking at a cost effective brand that still has a good reputation (in terms of quality, after sales service etc), your best best is the Silverback Space. A Coimbra in PE had 105 equipped Focus Cayos for R14 500. Not sure if it was a special or a normal price. This would also be a brilliant option. They also had a Focus Izalco with Ultegra for R23 500.
  19. Epic? Was thinking more along the lines of Tour de France
  20. You diagnose yourself, then you ask a bunch of pedal pushers to treat your self diagnosed ailment. You could end up in a wheel chair soon. Go and see a doctor.
  21. Frame size is the most important factor when buying a bike. Second hand is a good option, but you have to know what you are looking for or you may be burnt.
  22. Do power torque need a crank puller? Don't you just undo the bolt with an allen key and pull it apart.
  23. Hi... I am in PE and if you want, I can check out the Merida and verify it's existance for you. To be honest though, considering what your wife is intending to do on a bike, I would rather buy new. It will (hopefully) be set up properly and she will probably feel much prouder (happier) riding something nice and shinny rather than a scratched second hand one. She probably doesn't care (or even know the difference) about the higher specs on a second hand one. You will also have the peace of mind knowing the new bike will come with a warranty. There is also a risk buying second hand that there is a "hidden" damage on it that will manefest itself after she has ridden for 2 months.
  24. If the Hub is anything to go by, Silverback are brilliant with warranties. Is the better specs on the Giant worth the extra R8 000.
  25. Look at Momsen. Good value for money and they are proudly a PE brand. Another value brand is Axis, they are linked to Scott and also designed in PE. Cyclopro sells both. When it comes to service, Cyclopro and Coimbra are the best.
