  1. Nice bike....
  2. This had a happy ending for both the owner and the thief. Someone spotted the thief walking with the bike, realised it was stolen and gave him R1,500 for the bike. The owner was traced by and handed back. Although it's easy to say, the driver should have just reversed over the thief. He would have been in a whole lot of pain
  3. CSA has been talking about this for as long as I have been cycling. It has taken them 20 years to get this far. Finally, let's hope it is a success.
  4. This might work on a steel or titanium frame, but the Warp 5 is neither. I think it is carbon. Maybe a carbon expert could build up the chain stay to strengthen it, but I still wouldn't trust it.
  5. You hit the nail on the head. You refer to a BMW accredited dealer or an iPhone store. Who accredits carbon repairers? Is there a carbon industry body? Is there a certification for a carbon repairer issued from an accredited agency? I have not heard of any (maybe I am wrong). Until that happens, I would want my insurer to replace rather than repair.
  6. You can get mounts that bolt onto your chain/seat stay that allow you to mount disc brakes, but I would not even consider it. The frame was not designed for disc brakes and I highly doubt that the chain/seat stay will be strong enough at that spot to handle those forces
  7. I wouldn't even hesitate. You won't get that much bike for that amount of money anywhere else
  8. He mentioned that was the Elite that he was looking at. That has Sram Rival hydraulic brakes and carbon wheels https://titanracingbikes.com/bikes/valerian-carbon-elite/
  9. Do it yourself. It is very rewarding. Lots of YouTube vids. What ever you can't do (don't have the right tool etc), can go to a bike shop. I just did one recently, took about an hour. I didn't have a tool for the BB. Bike shop removed it and tightened it on the new frame. Cost me R50
  10. Can't see too well what the groupset is. If this is a Dura Ace groupset, you would get alot more than if it was a Tiagra groupset. Give more details
  11. This is a 2006 aluminum frame. Completely different to the one under discussion. I've been watching that add with interest. The seller is delusional. He has dropped his price significantly over time and it is still over priced.
  12. RC7000 had Ultegra and RC6000C had 105. The RC9000 name was dropped for this time period when they went carbon on their top models.
  13. I disagree with you. There was a yellow and blue version, specced with Dura Ace and Zipp wheels. Exact frame, just different colours. There was also a blue and black version with Ultegra. The 105 version was a completely different frame (lower end). This frame carried over to when Raleigh's name changed to Axis in SA (another story for another day).
  14. You must be smoking something, R3k for a full carbon bike with Ultegra? How can you compare Mongoose man's aluminium bike with this carbon bike. Not sure what parts were on the bike, but if they were standard, the aluminum version came out with Tiagra.
  15. For a full carbon bike?
  16. R3k, for a full carbon bike? You either got a bargain, a lemon or the aluminum RC3000 version.
  17. R18k actually
  18. That's a 2008 Raleigh Team. There was a problem with the 2007 carbon models in that they were cracking at the chain stays. This frame, in this colour, was brought out specifically as a recall replacement for the 2007 models. It is made by Dedacciai, who manufactures high end frames. Personally, considering what you pay for bikes nowadays, I think the price is reasonable. You are getting a full carbon frame, which in its day was high end and an Ultegra groupset.
  19. It's normal for this to happen on a new bike. Just a few small adjustments as mentioned and you are good to go. Considering the crazy prices from Sram, Shimano and Campag, brands like Ltwoo are becoming more relavent. I replaced the Shimano shifters on my daughter's bike with Ltwoo. Half the price of Shimano and they work flawlessly.
  20. Guys like Ltwoo and Microshift could (or maybe they are already) capitalise on this. Their products are easily available and much cheaper. Quality is getting better by the day. I replaced the shifter on my daughter's bike with L Twoo. Half the price and they do the same job.
  21. First Trek, now Specialized. Is the soft tail making a comeback (albeit in a different format)?
  22. If I were a buyer at R100k, I would rather buy new and get a warranty for my money. That's just me though. 2 questions. 1. How long will it take to move a bike at R100k? 2. Do you want you R100k sitting in your garage for a couple of months when it could be earning/saving you interest.
  23. It's there in the classified.
  24. I am going to come under fire here, but Raleigh has a hardtail called a Pro One. It doesn't look that bad considering it's price point.
  25. My daughter is not a cyclist, so I bought her one of these Totems, so she had something to ride on the odd occasion with us. From the word go, the brakes were useless, as in no stopping power at all. You could squeeze them as tight as you could and you could still push it on wet grass without the wheels locking No amount of adjustment helped. Tried every trick in the book. Eventually I banned her from riding it until I could source a set of used Hydraulic brakes. The bike is not that bad. It handles her daily commute on campus and the odd off road excursion. In 5 years, the only issue she had was a bent chain ring and punctures. Having said that, I would take the other's advice and spend your money on a used, better quality bike.
