  1. Actually, you are incorrect. Most recreational cyclists who ride the big races know very well where their money is going - CHARITY - its well published, the sponsors promote it, the charities thank them for it, some people even ride to collect money individually for the charities - so NO, its not ploughed back into cycling, because to be honest and blunt (please dont take offence), what did cycling put in to expect a return - in my opinion it gos to a better cause and is one of the reasons why many folk participate. What has / will cycling (or a license) done (or what will it ever do) for Mom and Pop who puff their way around in 7 hours and go home feeling good that at the very least, they contributed to someones dinner next week? Why expect them to be "happily" inconvenienced. Even lap dogs bite when they are pushed too far. wierd argument Widget - why don't the sponsors just sponsor the charity instead of trying to convince thousands of people onto their bikes once or twice a year. is all the money raised given to the charity? i don't think so. theres no such thing as a free lunch. u make as though "cycling" is a person u don't like!!!! but u are a cyclist (aren't you) and there fore should do something it or will you be just content to sit on the side badmouthing your sport no matter who "cycling" is.
  2. as long as the CSA is run by volunteers who give up their free time with no financial compenasation the current situation will prevail. will Froome now attend classic and follow the womens race?
  3. after letting the leftover juices out of the bladder and rinsing it with clean water and hanging it on the line. is that it. must the inside of the baldder be dried out ifso how do you do it.
  4. heres a hypothetical situation - the CSA exco has resigned. please nominate who you would want to be : President V President Road Commissioner Convenor of selectors for Road plus 3 other selectors for the time being lets just nominate people who you think would take cycling for men & women (elite & juniors) to the next level. i am going to start the ball rolling Pres - L Whittakar V Pres - C Lemmer Road Comm - Bart Harmse Convenor of Selectors - Douglas Ryder Austin, Robertson , Harding
  5. maybe all selectors should be based in Gauteng. so lets here who you recommend to do the job and while you are about it nominate who is your candidate to run CSA the way u want it to be run.
  6. heres the solution - in the cape womens league ride with the 40 - 49's , make it one race with prize money for the podium finishers. whovever wins wins
  7. who attended the ppa agm. was the ppa/csa joint venture discussed?
  8. here in the cape most of the top women racers are in their 40's. the womens league attracts fields so small that they also don't pay out prize money (less than 6 racers)
  9. you know what puzzles me the most? jhb and surrounds attract the best cyclists in the RSA all the pro teams are there , the money in cycling is there but their provincial and club structures don't seem to be firing on all cyclinders. Jhb (CG) just hosted the SA Track Champs, it was a nightmare (if u speak to the participants). when last did any of the Gauteng provinces host SA's Road , other than when SG pulled out and N Gauteng saved them. i don't see anyone from these areas sticking up their hands to run CSA like it should be. the the big question is, if the current exco of CSA aren't capable of running CSA then put your money where your mouth is and tell us who should...
  10. the development riders got their chance in the B Worlds on the Road with only Luthando showing he is capable of upping his game the rest are not talented enough to get anywhere other than useful club cyclists. the Boland trackies got to go to worlds and various other world competitions where they showed us that they are nothing special by not even coming close to qualifying for any final.
  11. if he really wants to shut everyone up why doesn't he produce his passport and prove he was in Mexico during the Giro d Italia
  12. they can send blood samples to Onderstepoort where race horses are tested. apparently its only half the cost and the testing process is exctly the same
  13. seeing that most of the roadies will be wiping the cobwebs from their muscles why don't the organisers have one (open) race on a handicapped basis. or has this form of racing been completely forgotten. I remember Typo CC's race being very popular.
  14. the prob with our juniors is that they reach the top in this country too quick and too easily. other than the northern provinces all the others cycle in isolation and the only time they compete against each other is at SA's. i believe that the youngsters should not be racing until they reach under 16 i.e. do away with u 10 / 12 / 14 and let them ride for the fun of it and then introduce them to racing on a handicapped basis.
  15. Ill shut up And that is more than half the problem. If you gave half a toss about the sport, considering you experience already, then you need to consider why it is that you don't contribute in a positive manner. Unless of course, you also stand to lose personally/financially. oh go fart somewhere else - you boring
  16. are our youngsters good enough to go to world track champs?
  17. front lights are more important than the back ones. the flickering white light is very effective. motorists find it difficult to judge the speed of oncoming cyclists in broad daylight so i would assume it is event n=more difficult for them in the dark.
  18. becaue the _____ are still trying to push and save rugby... if you do't play /support rugby then you don't belong there Same goes for soccer cervelo' date=' so get off your high chair! [/quote'] in the cape soccer is not a (saturday morning) school sport. Soccer is run by clubs and the players play out of their own free will. However when kids arrive at high school they get instructed play a schools sport or else, most times the choice is rugby, rugby, rugby and then maybe hockey. my point is this if rugby and hockey are (almost) enforced schools sports (in the cape) and most sports journo's are pushing for some sort of rugby development programme aimed at increasing the rugby skill levels from grade 1 at primary schools why do these sports experience such a large drop out level when the kids leave school? the local rugby clubs in my area can just about field three teams each and we have in excess of 10 high schools in the area all playing school rugby.
  19. I thought Once is a Broomberg and Admin an Eager? step father
  20. drove up and down to knysna from CT and came to the conclusion that i will never again drive inside the yellow line as it just encourages motorists to overtake on solid white lines no matter what is approaching from the front. from now on i will stay on the road and they can overtake when it is safe to do so - no more yellow line driving for me
  21. Once and Admin are related like in father and son. i think that Once should explain his group structure wrt to the Asics team, LCA , Ascends Cycling Club and now VeloKhaya because it has come across as a bit patchy to say the least. even the big players in the CT cycling scene are a bit in the dark as to how everything fits together.
