  1. why do the ladies need to ride with the vets to show us how strong they are? what would happen if they were "ringfenced" and had to race on their own, would we then not only see their strength but also their race and tactical skills. racing with the vets just means the get taken to the line and the best sprinter wins.
  2. as with most successful sportsmen - there is no connection between the brain and the mouth. Benni McCarthey, Bif Smith , Gibbs, Campese come to mind
  3. Stringbean , get yourself a life, its people like you who cause the crashes.
  4. different strokes...........
  5. [quote=widget All they want to do is ride with their mates on a sunday and be part of something big a few times a year. Why must they license.??????? so let the moms and pops carry on riding with their mates - but if they want to be part of an organised event they must be willing to abide by the rules and regs of the organisers and the easiest way is to license be it full or cyclosport.
  6. just watch them go up V hok , all the riders should be on the big blade
  7. todays stage is a piece of cake compared to Friday's - there are so many places to attack on Malanshoogte and V Hok. i reckon the peleton will be strung out like a seeded funride from the first lap, then you still need to ride into a strong wind on the way back to the finish. Conties is windy when the south easter is not blowing. its like a wind tunnel when it is. you get guttered on the way to the quarry and then its straight on the nose to the Tjunction.
  8. The CSA (national body) have 4 staff running their offices in Cape Town, the rest of the office bearers are volenteers. how many staff run the ppa offices? (which is essentially a provincial body) (wot do they do all day????) (they don't even administer the leagues anymore that has been outsourced to Falcons. to save costs they should cut staff and run one office. but that wont happen, the PPA will lose out and i see them pulling the plug on the CSA come the end of this year. then watch the Goverment step in and force the issue
  9. join a club , if you don't like the way its run , get onto the committee and do something about it. remember the clubs vote for provincial chairpeople, provinces vote for the people who run the CSA. individual cyclists don't get asked anything , there is a defined channel i.e. individual - club - province - national body - uci. the ppa is another story completely. they think they are a national body but are only established in the Cape but own a bit of the biggest money making event in the RSA - the Argus.
  10. every sport has a governing body (cycling has the CSA) so before you start arguing the toss , get informed about your who runs cycling in the RSA.
  11. can the organisers please arrange for someone to sweep the section of road past the quarry and up to the T junction of Tygervalley road. it is covered in building stones. there are also a few humps / bumps / ridges of old tar on both sides. it wont take long for a team of Durbanville Municipality workers to get the road in shape. better still get the quarries to do it as that is where the stones originate from.
  12. about time - hopefully the CSA has the guts to kick the PPA into touch at the same time
  13. anyone know the times of TV coverage yet????
  14. cyclist killed Otto Du Plessis Drive , Milnerton (March 2007) cylist killed , Frans Conradie Drive , Parow (Feb 2007) cyclist killed , traffic circle at intersection of De Grendal and Plattekloof Road (Feb 2007) cyclist killed , Ring Road V&A Waterfront, (Jan 2007) J Pombo hit from behind (broken fibula) , Rooi Els Road , December 2006 J Kavanagh hit from behind by car, Cape Town (March 2007) sorry don't have the names of cyclist killed
  15. The Golden Arrow MD will be on Cape Talk 567 this morning at 0830am to talk about his company's bus drivers and their bad driving habits. now is our time to complain......
  16. i just hope and pray the tv coverage doesn't have some joker running up and down the road interviewing riders like on M Net. i hope the d**s who did last year 94.7 has been sent to Siberia.
  17. the guy got driven over by a truck on Otto du Plessis Drive. i heard that the cyclist rode too far to the left and then lost control of the bike and fell in front of oncoming traffic which just happened to be a truck.
  18. IMHO if a rider is not dominant in the PPA leagues he's going to suffer. if think DG is riding for Konica Minolta
  19. why doesn't the Cycle Tour just tar the 1.8 km gravel section THEN that circuit could be used by the CT cycling community FOR YEARS TO COME or am i too far ahead in my thinking?????????
  20. Dear All on the VWCA group. Please find attached a response to the letter penned by Mr. Colin Hoffman in respect of CSA. Dear Cyclists ?I think that Colin has lost it completely. Incidentally, he has up until now been the Editor so this is not a good faith letter at all. Colin, your unhappiness clearly stems from the fact that you will no longer be running the CSA website, much, I am sure, to the relief of the cycling community. I appreciate that you are probably sore about losing R6 000,00 a month for the privilege but that money will be better spent elsewhere. For the information of all who read this, the last time I saw Colin in my office, he promised to upgrade the website but sadly not much has happened since. Oh yes, he did contact me and others with an abject apology for allowing some teenagers to access the CSA website, the end result of which is that they pasted obscenities on it. Also, for the record, our General Manager, Sylvia Dale, and I have not been battling it out in Court ? the very thought gives rise to some humour. Sylvia is and remains a valued employee. And neither David Bellairs, my Vice-President, nor I are involved in any coup to take over CSA for fun riders. To the contrary, we are working hard for everyone but most especially for elite cycling, bringing order back where chaos existed and finding new ways to commercialise and fund our beloved sport. Also, for the record, Gotti and I are on good terms and I most certainly would not have stood for the position as President had he not retired. Shame on you, Colin! We give up our time freely and voluntarily but you who have been nicely paid, thank you, for quite a while now, are full of venom and vitriol. Ah, well, at least the CSA website will be well rid of you. I am quite sure that David and I will laugh off your criticism as will my fellow Directors at my law firm, Herold Gie. But your comments directed at our new COO are another matter and should he wish to, I am sure that he could see you in Court anytime. Maybe you had better think about a public apology after you have given yourself some time for sober reflection. Yours faithfully LAWRENCE WHITTAKER PRESIDENT CSA? Admin2007-02-19 05:54:25
  21. its a letter to the editor, if colin hoffman runs the csa sight, why did he write to "technically" himself. if he runs the sight and its a hoax , why did he put it on the sight. wierd.

  23. t boned a car about going down a hill about 10 years ago, spent 7 days in hospital with broken ribs and collapsed lungs and various other aches and pains. 2 years ago a truck decided to take a short cut out of stationery traffic just as i was riding past. managed to turn with truck and in line with the cab when it took out my back wheel. ended up in the gutter spitting my front teeth out. new teeth and rims replaced.
  24. someone needs to take this ou out
