  1. Reniell Mathyssen hanged up his wheels a week ago. Hein Kroff is the National Track commisionner. He runs a cycle shop in Paarl. Look up the number and give him a call and ask him all the questions instead of wasting your time speculating on the Hub. add Garon Bloch , Reynold Smith and you have 4 trackies that could have been in the medals at the OG's if they were citizens of any other "cycling" country.
  2. Am I the Dumb c**t?? no , Gibbs is the dumb bell. he admitted to the King commission under oath that he agrred to throw his wicket on 25 runs, he threw his bat at everything and was past 25 before he knew it. Hansie also got one of the bowlers (Henry Williams)(i think) to agree to bowl up to sh*t. They both would have got R10K each.
  3. Gibbs was bust for smoking in West Indies but is wanted in Ind/Paki for match fixing. remember Hansie said he must lose his wicket on 25 runs but he was batting so well he forgot about it. dumb c**t.
  4. French riders don't dope thats why they haven't featured at all in the T'd F since the **** hit the fan in 1998.
  5. "racing certain end-of-season races in South Africa, where the sponsor has its base". maybe he will ride Paarl Boxing Day or The Burger
  6. i crap myself on that section but i ride it mostly very early in the morning - like before 6.00am - my blood runs cold if i cant make the narrow shoulder or the middle island and there is a stream of cars behind taking the off ramp
  7. i would venture a guess: Carinus, Willie Newman, Hein Kroff, CWillemse,Kulsen. i'd fall flat on my back if the hoi polloi like LWhittakar, Dave B and Steve Hayward were there to witness the cycling. Buycycling and Ride would also not of bothered to pitch up and write an article on an event that basically was the birth of cycling in this country.
  8. where did the incident happen?
  9. name and shame them
  10. No TV - it just doesn't fit in with SSCycling Cyclelab image. and i bet my bottom dollar that no csa top brass or selectors were there to witness the progress that "development cyclists" have made. this is an ideal event for csa to bring down the potential olympic riders to the cape. paarl is a slow track , u need to be strong to win here.
  11. the resurgence in the Boxing Day event has a lot to do with the success of the local Paarl riders in the 25 miler. you must remember in the "old days" blacks were not allowed to ride or run in the Boxing Day events (the event was a cycling and athletics meeting). when gov allowed mixed sport in the late 70's , most of the black riders left the Sacos cycling body and joined the establishment but it was only recently that Garth Thomas became the first black cyclist to win the 25 miler.
  12. want to improve power - just do a 4000 m pursuits on the track (from a standing start)
  13. there are group rides from the LBS in Plett.
  14. give a few e.g.'s of low gi and high gi
  15. Spook Bult in S/West is short but a killer. the beginning of the back road from Wildernis to George, as you turn right and away from the sea the road just goes vertical
  16. I have spoken to Piet. He is in City Park, out of danger. A car coming from Cape Town cut across his line of travel to turn into Llandudno at about 5 pm on Monday afternoon. He struck the car with his right hip, shattering his pelvis in three places. He had gone for a ride to rid himself of the annoyance of having spent the day with movers. Now he will be spending about 6 weeks in bed. Piet was keen on bettering his Argus time of 3:08 this year, to below the magical three hour limit. No chance of that now. He does not know what has happened to his bike, a Pinarello Prince. It was, according to Piet, not too badly damaged as he struck the car sideways - when he took evasive action to the left. Any news of the bike ? i copied this from the VWCA chat forum - hopefully his bike will turn up

  20. typical GM move!!! its a wonder they advertise it upfront, i would of expected them to this type of move on the morning of the event.
  21. surely one wouldn't just jump straight into 3 min interval training. should one not start off doing 1 min intervals and then build up to 3 minutes ? just asking?
  22. would love to meet the owner of a canary yellow porsche who buzzed us a few Saturdays ago on Adderley Road just outside D'ville. never been passed so close at such speed. it was so quick no-one has a chance to react.
