  1. maybe i'm wrong but its a pity they work in isolation with respect to the development arms of the csa because this is a good example of transformation/uplifting the pdi's for when the Govt. points fingers at cycling for being too white. btw the Lotto bikes (road and track) works perfectly down here in the Cape but they haven't been audited for quite awhile now (it must have something to do with Lotto).
  2. Muxman - Leading candidate for 2007 worst rider award - i think you are a leading candidate for another award....most ignorant perhaps. licensing is going to happen so get with the programme.
  3. its funny how all of a sudden now that the controlling body of cycling in rsa want to implement a license system, cyclist want to know what they will get in return....a few years ago the ppa wanted all riders to join ppa so that they could be seeded in the argus, so matter where you lived in sa i.e. Messina to Richards Bay to Oranjemund, if you wanted to do the argus u had to be a ppa member....cant remembers any objections then. its simple if all cyclist were licensed then all regs and rules would apply to all cyclists. so if joe soap is riding like a d**S , you can report d**s to CSA and if warranted, have him discplined ie suspend his license , that means d**S can't ride anywhere in the country. but at the moment, have you ever heard of the ppa disciplining a cyclist...NO. even if they did , you just rock up at the next event and take out a unseeded number. btw (1) its people that make clubs what they are , if you think a club is not going to give you value for your money get involved in the club and make things happen. btw(2) wait until the CSA spells out the full process of licensing before jumping to conclusions. i can't wait to see where ppa pitch themselves are they going to be part of CSA as a provincial body or a glorified club under the WP Cycling.
  4. the organisers aren't stupid - they are creating a demand to justify pushing the price up. but just think about this - all the "development riders" that are "invited" ride for free so that no-one can point fingers that the event is elitist.
  5. so the problem lies with UCI and not CSA.
  6. anyone , as long as they are French. the tour needs french winner. btw i'm most interested in the avg speed over the whole tour. the speed has just been going up and up, hows this: 1974 - Merckx (avg speed 35,6kph) 1980 - Greg LeM (avg speed 38,6kph) 1998 - Pantani - (avg speed 39,9) 1999 - Lance - (avg speed 40,2) 2005 - Lance - (avg speed 41,6)

  8. i joined thehub after a few months on the SS site - re Lonestar, he certainly knew most of the riders and cycling personalities countrywide but i think he was (is) from the Cape.
  9. Gardens in Cape Town?
  10. They reckon you should not train on steep hills to improve climbing, as it doesn't allow you to perfect a good techinque and rythm.
  11. maybe the local SA CSC will take their place in the Tour
  12. where is the ou Wa Pad ??
  13. i've got rollers , any ideas on indoor routines???
  14. i think the ppa are doing a great job of organising funrides. but the PPA must decide is it a provincial or national body or is it the recreational arm of the CSA or the racing arm of the CSA. it seems to me that they are just there to be the conduit for charities to raise funds and make money to pay their staff at the expense of the cyclist in the WP. As for the R300 for winning a race , i think that is exploitation to the highest degree.
  15. funriders outnumber the licensed cyclist in the WP so the PPA wont stop its focus on funrides. the PPA and the WPCA must join forces (but that won't suit the PPA and i dont know why). but i think it is time that the licensed riders in WP realised that the PPA is using them. i know for a fact that all funride organisers want a league status because it attracts more riders to their event by at least 200 - 250. only the ppa and the charity of the day benefits not the cyclists. btw the ppa boasts of members in excess of 15 000 to 18 000 but can only attract at the most 1500 to 2000 pre Argus.
  16. South Gauteng and Free State South have the best returns - in terms of number of medals. someone else can do the split of Gold / Silver and bronze
  17. wrong 100% Troll WP have 756 FULL LICENSES VIA THE CLUBS - YOU DONT NEED A FULL LICENSE TO RIDE IN THE PPA LEAGUES JUST A CYCLO SPORT, of which there are 297 of them in the WP. BTW CG HAVE 1710 FULL LICENSES AND 477 CYCLO SPORT.
  18. spot on. tell that to the PPA. they reckon they have a winning formula down here ( i.e. a winning formula for themselves , charities and anyone wanting to raise money by using cyclists) btw another way of looking at it is that JhB , Pta Durban and CT are the stronholds of cycling in the country. and this is reflected by the number of full licensed riders in each province. CG = 1710 GN = 797 KZN = 1238 WP = 756 Boland = 263 Border = 179 EP = 446 FSN = 115 FSS = 173 NC = 102 MPU = 358 NW = 203 SC = 321 SG = 105
  19. where are the 2008 champs going to be held?
  20. it would be interesting to see your training programme in the four months prior to the champs - did you ever see the same numbers in training or in races in the months leading up to champs.
  21. he knows all the in and outs of taking drugs - i'd say keep him in the team. it takes one to catch one.
