  1. i wonder why track has one foot in the grave? its cheap, easy and no traffic.
  2. [ sounds good...at least I can sit on the stoep with the trainer and watch the sunrise over the wide blue ocean. but remember real cyclist's ride on rollers. anyone can sit on a IDT and turn the legs over. when you can ride rollers without your hands on the handlebars you know that you have a good pedalling form.
  3. i rode in the vets / ladies tour which ran in conjunction with the Giro a couple of years back. same thing happened there. btw Francois du Toit used to pay someone who rode in the D bunch to wait for the Masters in league races and then this guy used to close down all the attacks for Francois. the masters just used to laugh about it.
  4. i didn't say it was going to save you money!!!!!!!!!! but it is lesser of the two evils (now read slowly) credit card interest is the highest interest (unless u go to a oan shark) you are going to pay as opposed to a loan which you can negotiate with your banker (having liquid security like a fixed deposit will make your case stronger for a good interest rate) btw by the time you have saved enough to buy the R18k bike your friendly distributor/bike shop would have upped the price to R24K
  5. avoid your cr card if you don't have a credit balance - you pay max interest. if you have only a portion of the purchase price , take out a loan and offer to invest your cash (iow your cash portion of the purchase price) in a fixed deposit, cede the FD to the bank as security and ask them to reinvest the earned interest. when the outstanding balance is equal to the FD, cash in the FD and settle the loan.
  6. WPCA should be discussing their nominations at their next monthly meeting on 18 Feb. it will be interesting to see who get nominated.
  7. Pres - L Whittikar (i think he is doing a good job if compared to his predessors. COO - Carinus L Road Comm - Doug Ryder (and let him appoint a Nat. Coach to look after nat. squads) Track Comm - Grey Owl !!! i would be interested to see other hubber's nominations
  8. don't need any company to time me. i push the start button on my polar when we start and the stop button when we finish. and i don't bother to check my results at PPA.
  9. cut timing from the normal run of the mill races. all of us have cycle computors we can time ourselves. just imagine the cost it would save us. time the Argus , Burger , 99'er and maybe two other events for seeding purposes. my 3 cents
  10. and what about a little bit of creatine (like a half a teaspoon full) mixed in with your drink
  11. best thing to happen to cycling so far this year.

at least if you shop online at CWC you wont have to count your fingers........
  14. so any person can arrive here and say "we are going to have a Tour of South Africa". they arrange road permission , teams enter , the whole katootie. the race starts , the race finishes. and then the organisers dissapear. no prize money is paid out , some bills are unpaid. who's going to get the flak for allowing its territory to be used for this Tour if things go pearshaped? CSA. must i carry on??????
  15. the stretch from top of Llandudno to Camps Bay has been a nightmare for the last month. the wind has been horrendous. it will scare the living daylights out of the visitors on Argus day if it is blowing just half as much as it is now.
  16. who is the coach?
  17. i rode last year after a break of 2 years. got a substitution and was placed in E but rode with a friend in PB. we still had about 20 rabbits that went from the gun. we then rode on our own and finished in 3.35. it was a pleasant ride and i was surprised that there was no need to dodge the slower riders as they all kept mostly to the left. we just hit a bit of a jam on the last bit of Smits and because we weren't going to "time" we just waited for a gap to open. so no matter were you ride there will always be the hardcore cyclists wanting to race.
  18. but what about Maverick CC and Helderberg CC being in the same area???
  19. stage 2 is a great for the spectators - it also means that the van schoorsdrift road will be repaired.
  20. You can only yse Keo cleats with keo pedals they are not compatible with the other look pedals. I did the same old look pedals on the trainer with old Sidi's and old look pedals with Keo's on bike with new SIDI's i then assume that the A5.1 (or A3.1) has been taken off the market!!! because i couldn't find them on any of the online shops.
  21. i had the Look A5.1 pedals (i think or was 3.1) and then purchased Keo pedals. i put the A5.1 on my training bike but the cleats that came with the Keo pedals are not compatible with the other Look pedals would these cleats be the Keo Grips?
  22. the lighties start too young and attain local success too easily. imho there should not be u10 / 12 cats. these kids should be doing it for fun and not for medals or prize money. they have their whole life to be serious about it.
  23. the bit of raod past the CBay police station is the narrowest but then it widens a bit and has a few bends. if cars are parked next the curb thenthe road can be narrow. if u know the road common sense tell u to ride single file until u hit the wide hard shoulder. wide enough to ride 3 breast allthe way to Hout Bay.
