  1. Looked quite muddy. Tom has had an incredible few weeks. A solid effort at Elite road world champs, 2x U23 WC wins, and this. Talent.
  2. I was also thinking about that the other day. It threw me a bit and I was trying to recall when he was XCO World champ. I thought that past and current World champ/national champ stripes can only be worn on kit during the event of the same format you won them in?
  3. Not sure if they're available in SA (and I haven't got one myself) but it seems HydraPak have a larger opening.
  4. ASA having their say again in the form of Aleck Skhosana. Comrades 2021 likely to take place in its original June slot again. "We have a set athletics calendar that has worked best over the years". Let's wait and see.
  5. Incredible run by Gerda! She just gets better and better. 2:26:51. Only 15sec of Colleen De Reucks 1996 record. (Elana Meyer has a 2:25:15 on a "aided road course") If she does a flat marathon with crowds she'll definitely get the record. Pity about Elroy Gelant who pulled out around 25ks
  6. If anyone actually knows how old he is
  7. Great race by Alan. Some big names not quite where one would expect them and a surprise winner out of Mexico. Exciting stuff.
  8. The club is a great venue absolutely. Good to hear your thoughts on it. Farmers Daughter at Yard 41 closed down. There is a new restaurant due to open up in its place called Village.
  9. Up to a point. It then comes down to what they do with that advantage or (relatively more) natural skill. Attitude and work ethic are far more important. As I'm sure all of us have seen during our schooling days the most talented simply fail to convert simply because they don't want it enough and or have a *** attitude.
  10. Very well done! I was going to ask what thoughts on the venue were. From a supporters point of view do you feel the original start/finish venue at Yard 41 created a better atmosphere or is Karkloof club just better?
  11. Tom Pidcock one to watch in the years to come. Great talent for GBR and for Ineos.
  12. Does anyone know if anyone here is doing Karkloof 100? Kicked off this morning. Looks like it'll be a very hot day today.
  13. Regarding the podium ceremony in Paris. I see most tv coverage only showed the winners on the podium with their masks on? I know they had photos etc without masks but why not let them do the whole ceremony without masks? Pathetic really. A special moment in their careers and they're pictured with a mask on. What a joke. And not a funny one.
  14. Always heard that the Tour has the most or close to the most spectators compared to any other sporting event (Summer Olympics being the other option). Not talking about tv viewers but actual folk on the side of the road spectating.
  15. Nicely done!! Different story without the normal race day vibes. Which marathon have you entered? I'm looking out for a November/December European marathon to enter. I haven't looked into much detail on the options yet but was looking at Malaga in mid December. Looks like it's still on but Valencia which was meant to be a week earlier has been cancelled.
  16. Which might not be such a bad thing? We all know DBN isn't exactly the coldest place even during a cold front Probably not even less than 10 degrees down that way. Then again we're probably too used to the cold European weather
  17. Historical weather for 26 September for the last few years for DBN and PMB suggests fairly warm weather. Maybe not by SA standards but definitely warm compared to ideal running (read running a hard effort Marathon) conditions, of about 10-15 degrees Celsius, that take place during most of the worlds big marathons. For the last 3 years the temperatures were decent around the high teens and some overcast (high humidity towards DBN though). 2013 to 2016 the temperatures were a fair bit warmer in the mid to high 20's. And close to 30 degrees in PMB at 9am in 2015. Again high humidity toward DBN. Close to 30 running into DBN in high humidity towards the end of a long day means a bit of a suffer. So maybe the same running weather as we've had in the past with a warmer start in PMB compared to June? Some might recall the hot conditions at the Karkloof 100 in 2019 on September 20? Loads of people were treated for dehydration. Temperatures in PMB on that day got up to 40 degrees (21 degrees at 6am and 31 degrees at 9am). Something like that at Comrades would be disastrous. The traditional Comrades dates have definitely seen some super hot weather though at times so who knows. Just thought it might interest some folk. Most probably don't care
  18. Perhaps in other provinces but there doesn't seem any change to the dates in the provisional KZN calendar.
  19. Heard whisperings and then heard that KZN Athletics have a draft 2021 calendar with Comrades 2021 being on 26 September. (It's a draft calendar so still needs to go through ASA and KZNA for final approval but that date looking quite likely). Very interesting if true. Suppose Comrades want certainty it can take place but we'll wait and see as there is no official statement from them yet. Does leave space in the calendar for a new Marathon or ultra in July/August as the traditional races are in the same dates as the past largely. Weather most likely a big factor that time of year. Makes training easier if living in the Northern Hemisphere that's for sure. Possibly some improved results from the Northern Hemisphere based athletes being more weather adjusted.
  20. Yet again ASA doing what they do best...absolutely nothing. No athletes going to World 21k champs. They must take the medal for the most useless sporting body in SA?
  21. Doesn't really have the same appeal to me. Of course it's the distance and an event but just not he same.
  22. Anyone doing Karkloof 100/50? See an announcement has been made about the route and times.
  23. I got so carried away and added the extra decade . Have edited the post.
  24. You spoke too soon. not sure who watched that 5000m but those lap times were unbelievable. Getting faster and faster. Crazy race by Joshua Cheptegei in the 5000m. 12:35:36. New World Record!! Bekele set that record in 2004.
