  1. Berlin Marathon and New York Marathon now cancelled.
  2. It looks like Hamburg Marathon and half marathon will go ahead on September 13. The race was meant to take place in April. 10000 runners in the marathon starting in batches of about 1000 every 10 minutes and only 30 elites. Athletes from higher risk countries will not be able to participate (same for elites) and elites will need to be tested. 4000 runners in the half marathon also in batch starts. Separate start and finish areas for the 42 and 21 and other procedures. Let's hope it's a start for more big events to carry on with their events.
  3. Have seen similar with some of the elites in big marathons and Comrades. Sometimes stopping is not on their agenda
  4. And always remember to carry some white gold in a small plastic packet.
  5. It's also very clear that those submitting false times actually have no clue just how unrealistic their submitted times are. They may be runners/joggers now and then but have likely never actually watched a race of any kind and have no idea of what a real legitimate top class time is. Hence some of the world record type times we are seeing for this event. And I say it again!! ELAPSED TIMES NOT moving times!!
  6. Such a shame. This type of person shouldn't ever be allowed to enter Comrades and there should be a worldwide cheat blacklist that blocks any attempted entry to any race by such an individual. Mark Dowdeswell has uncovered a number of cheats in Comrades by using splits, picture evidence etc. and yet very little seems to be done after it is bought to the attention of the CMA. Take a stance on cheats. That's all we ask of CMA and all other organisers. It's not just a SA thing. Lots of cheating goes on worldwide it seems with average runners cheating to try obtain the various time standards in order to enter the big marathons like Boston. Why?? I reported a cheat to New York Road Runners association after passing a runner close to the finish line and noticing he was definitely not capable of running anything close to the time he was finishing. I searched through many pictures and submitted these as proof. He was running with a homemade copy of another runners number who finished legitimately. Why? To get a medal and boast to his clueless mates that he'd run NY Marathon. Who knows.
  7. I see it has been removed. Still loads of very questionable times. I wonder if the system flags times below certain thresholds for manual review? I also wonder if it also flags suspicious splits/km speeds on the results that are based on Strava etc as there are some crazy km speeds going on in some.
  8. Ridiculous results being posted. A number of world records
  9. Well done to everyone who took part! Absolutely awesome that so many took on the challenge, and for each person the challenge is so very different. Just good getting people out there running. Some absolutely incredible laughable times being uploaded. Clearly many were entered for a longer distance and then ran a shorter distance and didn't update their entry. One particular chap has a Strava time 1hr longer than his submitted time. Another thing is that many have clearly paused their watches many many times during their run for drinks breaks etc and yet they still have the audacity to submit their moving times instead of their elapsed times. Poor form. Or maybe lack of understanding? Upload your total elapsed times! Comrades is 12 hours and stopping your watch at every water table doesn't change that. This mainly relates to folk just submitting a manual time rather than uploading their gpx file. There are people whose actual total event time (elapsed) are 30min or in some cases much longer than that, more than the times they submit. I know the event is for fun but please don't go claiming PBs etc.
  10. If anyone is interested in some blocks from a London Plane tree pop me a message. Blocks are 30cmx30cmx62cm or 30cmx30cmx42cm
  11. Interesting. As far as I can find there are no SA athletes who come anywhere near sub 8min 3km in 2020 according to ASA lists (on track). The quickest in 2020 is 8min10 by Sipho Mbanjwa. Can't find a list for 2019 for 3000m but in 2018 only one SA athlete ran sub 8min - 7min53 by Ryan Mphahlele. The SA record is 7min41 and the World record is 7min20 set in 1996 by Kenyan, Daniel Komen.
  12. I wonder if the event will be allowed to go ahead at all? What are people's thoughts? The way all other participation events have been cancelled I'm not so sure. A staggered type start kind of detracts from the traditional group start in a big way
  13. Are you running on tar with the trail shoes? If so I'm not sure that's ideal. I'm no expert at all but have heard of numerous running experts, physios etc. don't recommend that Trail shoes be worn on the tar. Perhaps someone else can confirm? Of course if you're only using them on trail type terrain then disregard above.
  14. Vaporflys for Day to day training? Not ideal as they're low mileage race shoes. Zoomfly Flyknit also not really a good high mileage trainer either. The Pegasus 37 is out and has more cushioning and different foam to the previous iterations. Might be a good option for day to day running? Pegasus Turbo also a good bet but wears quicker than the standard Pegasus in my experience. https://youtu.be/58pzdUdnBeM
  15. 2021 is the 100th year (not 100th running) so perhaps many novices will want to be a part of it.
  16. It's such a shame. I'm sure they were looking at all options and trying to see which direction things might be heading in the coming months to see if there is likely to be any improvements. There is absolutely no doubt it was a very tough decision to make - regardless if it was seen as an obvious one given the disaster the world is in. Corona is not the disaster, the world has made it one by the decisions they've made. It's a risk we take when entering events that we may not take part for some strange reason and as a result won't get a refund. Or maybe a freak event of nature might result in a cancelled event and there are no refunds. This situation is no different. No refunds. Simple. It says clearly on the entry details page on the Comrades website "Entry fees are not refundable under any circumstances". If an individual feels like they cannot afford to lose the amount of an entry fee, even though the chance of this happening is close to zero most of the time, then they shouldn't enter. Maybe what they could do is offer preference on entries for the 2021 race for those who had entered for 2020 to avoid 2020 entrants from being unable to enter? But at the normal entry fee
  17. Seems like the guvment are enjoying their new "powers".
  18. First week of October would be the latest as mentioned in the media release a few weeks ago. Besides being way too hot, anything beyond that and it starts clashing with too many end of year marathons and early year marathons for the 2021 qualification. Running two Comrades only 8 months apart is also not the best idea if running them hard. A night race wouldn't work. Far too dark and wouldn't work for TV, sponsors etc.
  19. Agreed. I see a lot of folk on various platforms ranting that the event should just be cancelled. If those are their thoughts then so be it. Make the decision and move on. No need to keep on complaining if you're not intending on partaking. The event might be able to take place at a later stage or it might not. Just like the other major events like Boston and London, that have been postponed.
  20. Politics going on behind the scenes I'm sure. ASA want to throw their weight around (probably substantial non athletic weight) and call the shots.
  21. Seems like a lot of politics and fear factor creeping in with CMA, especially after the unhappiness of Minister Mthethwa after the last announcement. It's very clear that ASA want to call the shots here and have made that very clear to CMA. CMA therefore resorted to making, or felt it safer to make, the broad and slightly weak announcement?
  22. I would imagine they would only hold the event if it's deemed safe to do so by various medical/government bodies? World Health Organization guidelines? The same will have to happen with all the other events worldwide that have announced their new event dates. If the event is deemed safe to go ahead and folk are still worried about the virus then surely they should be adult enough to make their own decision whether they participate or not?
  23. So it looks like they are essentially saying that June won't happen, but will only announce this on their original date of 17 April. Should the event be cancelled completely then CMA will likely blame ASA and their scheduling issues. Personally I think August would be the latest the event could happen without getting too much in the way of the stacked SA spring/US Euro autumn calendar.
